Title: Pls Help Tell CA Where To Move
Post by: Trapped in California on November 09, 2012, 10:03:31 AM
We are a middle aged couple who will be leaving CA in 2014.  We want to move to a red state, but not sure which one best for us. We dont need to get jobs, but would like to be within 20-30 minutes of a large city.  Don't want snow, need 1-2 acres for our large dogs, can spend 400-500K. Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thank U Patriots!

I know of a large solidly built 2 bedroom house on 200 acres for $399,000.  Northeastern Arkansas in the Ozarks.  About 45 minutes from Fayetteville.  Toy

You need to be looking at tax rates of states also.   But moving from Cal, there should be a big tax drop.

This should help....

Lots of people are still coming to the south east. I'm in NC about a 20 minutes outside of Raleigh. My wife was born and raised in the bay area, and after 10 years, I couldn't pry her out of NC. She loves it here.

You just have to be able to deal with 3 months of hot sticky heat in the summer.

About the same as in NC here in SC.  Summers are muggy starting in May and usually running thru Aug.  I live within 10 miles of SC/NC border in a little town called Campobello, Approx. 7 miles to Landrum SC.  It is peach country around my home and also horse country.  There are no roadsides cluttered with signs, no traffic lights past one, no lights except the ones in the sky and at houses.  It is beautiful from my house as I have a great view of the Applac. Mts., which are only about a 30 min drive from my house.  There is a 20 acre tract in front of my house.  The house is an old charming farmhouse (we don't really want them to sell it) and several clean buildings around the house.  I'll ask the price if you like.

We usually have 2=4 weeks of inclement weather between Dec. and March.  Never long periods of it and road crews are great in our area.  When we do get it, it is usually in the form of ice and it never lasts over two days until it clears up.  We are in close (within 10 miles) of the nearest grocery, gas, drug stores, doctor and dentist.  Nearest Walmart is 12 miles.  Big malls are within 15 miles.  There's a church of every denomination on every corner it seems.  My own is 20 miles from my home but I've been there since my kids were teens.  Gas prices are relatively lower compared to alot of other states.  I filled up today with regular at a cost of 2.97/gal minus 5% because I got it at Ingles with a gift card that is granting 5% off thru
sometime in Dec.

Thanx for stopping by our forum and don't be a stranger.
