I am 60 years old and look every year of it. There is a certain drug store chain that insists on me showing ID if I buy cigarettes.  :cursing: I stopped buying cigarettes there. They do handle my medicine well and they are convenient to my home, so I still go there.

Does this drive anyone else nuts?

They do the same thing here when buying booze.  They're just trying to cover themselves on liability.  I'm sure the clerks have been told to get ID no matter what age the customer looks like.

I could remember when I was 45 and them asking me for my ID when getting a drink.    But I don't have that problem now as I stopped drinking and smoking over 30 years ago.

So do I, when I am using my debit card or pulling money out of my accounts.  Most of the teller know me unless there new as I go in twice a week.  Most business don't care now, but I remember when everyone ask for ID unless you were paying cash.

(*ahem*)

I quit cigarettes about ten years ago and have been tobacco-free since last August 1 after 50 years of smoking. I did it without patches or gimmicks. You can as well. As you say, you can still go there. Just deny them and everyone else that part of your paycheck.

I have yet to use an ATM and doubt I ever shall. I'm still getting used to them asking if I want cash back, or the difference between debit and credit cards. Those little ridges on those shiny plastic cards don't feel half as swell as the engraving on a fistful of Benjamins.

Which reminds me of a timely Valentine-hint...  spread a couple-hundred worth of new 10's and a few dozen rose-petals on a field of fresh linen.

My current peeve might be those dumb giant stuffed-bear commercials.   Yep, nothing like the senses-shattering emotional heartbreak of not buying adult-women a giant bear.

Wyatt it annoys me to hell and back again if I get carded like that.

Because the reason they're doing it, is underhanded and dishonest.

They do that, to cover their backsides when they know the investigators will be around.

And they do that to try and discourage adults from buying/using certain products.

Our local convenience store, recently fired a woman doing that crapola.

Once a customer who was standing there and was allowed to buy alcohol without an I.D. but a few mins later had to for tobacco.

Is what got her caught. They complained to the management about her allowing them to buy beer with no i.d. but cigs she refused to make the sale.

Turns out, this clerk disliked tobacco use, and feels they should be outlawed outright, so she took it upon herself to card everyone who walked in to buy some.

Just so, she could harass and even refuse to sell adults without their I.D. on them, tobacco products.

So it's not a totally unjustified beef, when you're like me so old you fart dust, and have the age lines to prove it too.

And get some young know nothing, never did nothing punk, asking you for your i.d. as if your not old enough to determine if you really want to buy that cig.

Yeah, they have to do by law in most states. The gummint probably got tired of having proprietors trying to evade responsibility by claiming that they couldn't comply with requirements to verify that customers are old enough to purchase some products, so they finally just threw up their bureaucratic hands and said, "Okay! From now on EVERYBODY has to show I.D. when they buy alcohol or tobacco. PERIOD!"

In Mexifornia where I live, the requirement is that for alcohol, stores must ask for I.D. from anyone who is under 40 years old (IOW, the only way to escape the requirement is to have at least some gray hair) and ALSO to require it from anyone who is under 40 and not a relative, accompanying them in line (to help prevent adults from buying alcohol for minors).

For tobacco sales, anyone under 21 must show ID.

Why is the requirement threshold lower for tobacco than alcohol? I have no idea. Maybe the alcohol lobby is not as powerful as the tobacco lobby.

I would be freakin' THRILLED if every store were required to be shown ID for Cig's and Booze.

Illegals would be self-deporting by the truckload.

No they wouldn't. In most states you got to show I.D. to vote too. Doesn't stop them from that now does it?

Trust me.

The Illegals I observe are a lot more concerned with getting Drunk or High than they are about Voting.

Once upon a time I walked in local Kroger to buy bottle of vine. I didn't have driver's license on me, but I have passport. They refused to sell it to me.
