Michelle

Hello:

I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello.

My name is Michelle.  I was born in Iowa but I moved to Mexico about 4 years ago.  I planned to retire but I was offered a fun job so I'm semi retired.   I'm a nurse.

Financially I am soooo conservative I embarrass my friends. I think all welfare should be done away with and then start from scratch.  There are people who need help, there are people who honestly will never be able to work again.  They need help.  For those going through a rough time I believe we should help them out and then give them fair time to repay the system.  Today we are paying parents to raise their own children.  This is not acceptable.

I think Obama needs to go before a jury of MY peers.  HIS peers aren't from the US.  Then I believe he needs to live out his life in a 4x4 cement hole in the ground.

Socially I am probably going to annoy some of you like fingernails on a chalkboard.  I don't care of two gay folks want to marry, just don't ask me to pay for it.  I don't like abortion and I would never have one but I am not about to tell another woman what she has to do with her body.

See?  Fingernails on a chalkboard but that is how I feel.

I came here from another forum where the challenge was not discussing current events but instead, a place where libs slam dunked cons with every incorrectly spelled, 4 letter word they knew and cons slam dunked them with ... well, correctly spelled 4 letter words.  There just wasn't much discussion on politics.  I'm all for letting a small few know they aren't very bright.  If we don't tell them they might not know.  But when there is little discussion of politics and merely a slam fest, it isn't very challenging.

I am here to read thoughts, opinions, links, articles, etc., that I can use in discussions within my personal life for those that are republican challenged.  There are some aspects of our govt that I sincerely do not understand.  How the processes work, etc.  I am here to learn.

Thanks for allowing me to join~

PS--  I fully understand the need for the verification system but it's a massive challenge to those of us who are color deficient.

The only question is, how do we mark the grave?

No issues there, as long as we don't have to pay for their decisions, it's their funeral.

Welcome Michelle. You'll not find any of that here, we have a policy where all claims are subject to proof, so libs can't get away with outright lies, and opinion pieces are not considered proof, so libs simply leave when challenged.

Welcome Michelle

Your a nurse in Mexico?  What is that like?  Do they have socialized medicine?
The danger to America is not Barack Obama but the citizens capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency.

I am!  It's great!

Yes, there is socialized medicine in MX.  Basically, if you have a job you have insurance.  I know that if you don't have a job you are covered but I believe premiums are self pay in that case.  They refer to it as social security.  If you have an appt with your doctor you refer to it as going to SS for an appt.  Some of the SS locations apparently have great medical care, some... not so much.  I think it depends on location.

My neighbors pay about $120 a year for husband/wife/daughter.  That covers all office visits, ER visits, hospitalization but I do not know if it covers Rxs.

I would never in a million years work in the socialized system in MX as a nurse, but the private sector is great.

I work in the private sector.  That medical care can be the best in the world or spooky scary.  You really *do* get what you pay for in Mexico.  People are always looking for a good deal in Mexico.  While it can be had, it has to be done very carefully.  Just like in the US.  Just because medical care is in the US doesn't mean it is safe, just because it is in Mexico doesn't mean it is dangerous.

I am new to the forum also.  My concern with living in Mexico is, that because of Mexico's strict gun laws, when the SHTF you will have no way to defend yourself.
You can never have enough friends, horsepower or ammunition.

Do you wish you could have/own a Firearm to protect yourself (And a CCW/CHL/CWP) ?

Shelby-

Yes and no.  I would like to have the option but I didn't own a gun in Phoenix, either.  I wouldn't dream of buying a gun without lots of classes on what to do with it.

Any American knows the first thing you do when you move here is meet a contact.  It's one of those things that it's not what you know, it's who you know.  The right contacts can get you anything including a gun permit.  I don't really see a need for it at this point in time.

Gator... not really.  The media is really a great deal of nonsense in the US regarding MX.  The reality is that if you don't do drugs, buy drugs, or sell drugs, nobody cares about you.  That includes the govt.  I kinda like it that way.

I treat MX the same as I did Phoenix.  I walk around at night but only on well lit streets, I don't walk down dark unlit alleys at night by myself.

Heh... want to know my bills every month?  Even after 4 years it still makes me laugh.

I have a very small 1 bedroom house with A/C, etc. for $80 USD a month.  It was a $40 deposit.
Tap water:  $4.00 USD a month.
Drinking water $1.00 USD per 5 gallons delivered to my home.
Propane for hot water and cooking (I don't cook, at all.  Ever.) $50 and my tank has lasted 2 years now.  I do have a "water on demand" system and that makes a massive difference.  I used to pay $50 every three months with an electric hot water heater.
Electricity (I live in the very hot desert) was $60 for my highest bill running the A/C 24/7 in the summer months.

I like Mexico, it's fun.  I adore my neighbors, they are very good to me.  My Spanish is very poor.  My friends and neighbors understand me, nobody else does.  So I tell them what I need and they make phone calls for me, order pizza, report cable problems, etc.

My cat was sick recently.  I took him to the vet.  For an office call, 2 injections, and oral antibiotics it was $12.00.

Food is VERY expensive.  Extremely expensive so I do my grocery shopping in the US.  I buy produce here, that's dirt cheap.  Everything else I buy in the US.

Sorry, you didn't ask for all that.

No, I don't miss the "right" to own a gun.  If that day comes I could probably get a permit.

There is!  Lucy the dog I stole.  HA!

There was a dog that belonged to a friend of mine.  He found her as a puppy on the side of the road.  He didn't want another dog but he didn't want to see her die so he took her.  She was about 9 months old and a neighbor asked if he could have her, my friend said yes.

This new guy didn't take care of her.  She didn't have enough food, she was chained to a wall with a 3' BOAT chain.  Long story short, I stole her.  I was going to rehome her to a good family.

Well, that was 3 months ago.  I really didn't have any intention of keeping her but she and my Beagle quickly became best friends.  Then there is the fact that she's had a taste of the good life, she sleeps on my couch, she only goes outside if she wants to... I couldn't give her to someone who would keep her outside all the time so she's mine.

She has become very protective of me.  It's weird, she knows who belongs here and who doesn't.  She has a happy bark if it's a child, she wants to play.  If it is a male she does not know she snarls and growls.

Sometimes the right dog is better than a gun.  They don't even want to come here to begin with.
