Open for business! Here are the kids with open eyes and gaping mouths pointed to the sky -- just in case it starts raining worms and grubs.  :P :P :P

BIG BIRTHDAY!!! The kids are ONE WEEK OLD today!

Zowie, how things change in the birdie world! Just one week ago, the day they hatched, the scene looked like this:

Now, after just seven days, the nest is getting full, and it looks like this:

They say that when conditions are right, you can stand outside at night and hear corn grow. (Um, you have to be standing near the corn...) I'm wondering if I could sneak outside at night and hear these kids getting larger. WOW!!!

Where I live you must have your corn in the ground by the 4 of july if it is your if it is your second crop.

I've been on a 7-day run of third-shift work, so the pics haven't been getting posted as I'd like. Not to worry! The feathers have arrived, perhaps from some mail-order outfit, I dunno. Take a look. These shots are from Sunday, I think.

Here's where the nest is relative to the ladders. (I'd REALLY like to have that yellow 8-footer for a little project I've got going...)k

And don't you know, there's a cool new addition out front, a nest for goldfinches! Here's what a newly-minted goldfinch looks like up close:

No pics to post today guys. THEY'RE GONE!!! No, the cats didn't get 'em, they just got up and flew away! They were all out in the back yard with their mom this evening when I went to take some pictures. Mama got pretty frantic when I tried to get close to the kids, so I backed off. ZOWIE! Less than two weeks from cracked eggs to fledgling robins.
