Every week we donate or dispose of boxes of stuff.  I'm a "thrower-outer".  My wife is a "collector".  Don't get me wrong, she's scored some stellar deals but right now we're inundated with junk.

My original plan of building a big barn has been torpedoed due to high lumber prices.  We can actually buy a second property with a barn for less than building new.  That's what we're exploring.
I was just talking to my neighbor who wanted to buy lumber. I told him to be patient, there is about to be a glut of lumber out of the West coast.
With all these fires, they will be begging for loggers to drop damaged trees that won't make it.
Though it costs a bit on blades due to carbon, there will be a glut of lumber very soon.

My neighbor bought a lumber mill, a small portable, but it works just fine and we have a lot of trees to harvest.
So if you live in an area with a lot of forest, people will let you take trees for free if you're willing to drop them.

With Cal, Oregon and Washington on fire there will be a lot of trees in each state.    Once the fires are out tree harvest will be wide open again until it is cleaned in most areas.

Even though Klinton killed off the logging industry, I expect to see a some new mills fired up.
We now have a tree glut and the world needs lumber. Each state on it's own will have enough wood to build a million homes each.

Watch the indexes on orders, this is going to be a fun ride to watch. Klinton killed the logging industry, not because of an owl or wildlife, but to kill of housing growth, because most of suburbia is middle income Conservatives, and if libs bail from the city, they too will dump the DNC.

It wasn't something they were willing to risk. Now they light fires as  a distraction from their riots and looting, only to feed the very thing they tried to prevent in the first place, cheap lumber.

Everything the left does will always come back to bite them in the ass. This is why Conservatives believe in Natural law, God will always find equilibrium, Marxists are always trying to controlled things that don't need controlling..

I have busted ass EVERY single day since I officially retired.  Busted ass doing things I WANT to do.  Right now I'm three days into building a new house/shed for our three barn cats.  They are currently housed in temporary cages on the property; trying to get them accustomed to their new home.

One thing is for certain.  I will gladly work long hours, in difficult conditions and with no rest.  But...  I will NEVER go back to the middle level management shit-show.  I'm as happy as a clam.  I wake up.  Fix breakfast.  Work all day.  Wife makes lunch and dinner.

Life is good.

Rainy weather arrived, mercifully slowing down the pace of my outdoor projects.  It's all good.  As long as I'm not slaving away at some middle management job; I'm happy and it's only getting better.  My wife and I were sitting along side the creek yersterday hoping to spot a migrating salmon.  I told her I spent my whole life supervising others.  Now I am content just to take orders from her!  :)

Next on the agenda:  The original plan was to build a big ass barn.  Building material prices have essentially tripled making this economically dumb.  For the price of a big ass barn, we could buy an existing nearby cabin/small house and barn, possibly with acreage or on water.  That's what we're doing now.  We're moving very slowly.  No rush.

I just rebuilt my deck and it took me almost 2 months to gather all the deck boards. Every place was out of deck board lumber. Crazy. My deck is about 15' x 36'.

That's sad, but like I told AJ, hang tight, there is about to be a glut of lumber hitting the mkt because of all these fires.
Add to that, Trump gutting NEPA, and prices will fall even further, simply because there will be a steady supply of lumber for the foreseeable future.

If you live close to Northern area forests, a lot of independent loggers have portable mills and are willing to sell lumber cheap. Just have to have a strong trailer to haul it.
