Just for shits and grins? Start a running diary in this thread as you start retirement. Kind of a, what it's like, how things are changing day by day or week by week.
It's been too long for me to even remember what it was like, but I do remember being in denial it had finally happened. I do remember not knowing what to do with myself, so many projects I'd been waiting to tackle and not knowing where to start.

But the big one, was when I had no idea what day it was, or even month, simply didn't matter anymore.

Oh, by the way. All those projects? They're still waiting.

Challenge accepted.  I'll keep you posted.

This way you'll have a permanent diary. I wish I'd have kept better record of my life, I did some really stupid shit, but funny now.

Tomorrow is my last day.  Very few employees are even aware.  I purposefully kept things quiet until the last day to reduce the amount of drama, tears and cheers.  I dread having to tell some of my subordinates who I'm really close to.  One is a young, single mom old enough to be my daughter.  Another is a rough but sweet old biker dude whose wife is dying.  Another is a Bosnian immigrant who I can trust with my life.  Ugh!  Pouring another glass of bourbon.

The Boss hasn't said two words to me since I told her I'm leaving.  She's pissed.  Other managers are deserting her as well.  One just transferred to another facility last week.  Another is doing the same very soon.  Still another refused her request to spearhead a horrible, thankless, night shift project.  She's driving away all the best people.  In 16 hours, it will all be someone else's problem.

As promised, I'm busting ass till the end.  This evening we had critical personnel shortages on account of the Labor Day weekend.  I spent almost my whole shift doing the labor-intensive hourly jobs.  I may be 56, but there's not a single 20-something who can keep up with me.  That's exactly why I should retire.  Because I'm just the sort of dumb ass who would work himself into a heart attack just to whoop some fag millennial soy boy.

It's time to slow things down.  Live life.  Smell the flowers.  Get to know the Wife again.

Now is the time to write a letter to the big boss, they need to know what's happening in lower management.
Believe me, they may not have a clue just how bad it is because of a management smoke screen designed to create an illusion of harmony.

As a former CEO, I assure you, someone at the top would love to know.

If not, enjoy retirement.

The company is very big and is run by evil people: Leftists.  Nothing can be gained by complaining to the brass.

My last day of work was Monday.  As promised, I busted ass trying to do the jobs of 10 people.  Over the course of the day, I informed hourly employees that I was leaving and this was my last day.  I was professional and did not bad mouth the company.  All my subordinates were genuinely sad that I was leaving.  My peers were kind of pissed because it meant more work and longer hours for them.  The males were congratulatory.  The females were openly hostile.

What surprised me was my Boss's response.  She said she was genuinely "jealous" that I was able to leave and retire.  She and I had fought from day one, so we were never on good terms.  On Monday she told me she hated the job but had no choice but to stay another 20 years supporting her kids and low-income/low work ethic husband.  She said she had been working crazy hours since age 14.  The only brief respite was years ago when she was pregnant.

At that moment I felt sorry for her.  I turned in my stuff, shook hands and disappeared out a side door, never to return.

I am retired.

Interesting, after all those years, and she waits till the last day to be human.

Congrats!

So far I'm busting ass packing, moving furniture and loading my flatbed.  Wife wants to be out early if possible.  I take orders well!

At 9:00 AM I get a call from a really close friend.  She lives on a lake.  Husband is out of town.  Her speedboat has sunk alongside the dock and she needs someone (me) to go swimming in 48 degree weather and get her boat floated, towed and hauled away to the marina.  Guess what?  I dropped everything and was more than happy to assist.  I cannot even begin to repay this lady for her friendship over the years, especially how she helped out when my wife was seriously injured 3 years ago.

First FUN thing I'm gonna do?  I've always wanted to go deer hunting.  Might do that.

A thin layer of old man fat kept me safe from the cold water.  The water was actually a lot warmer than the air. Wasn't that bad.

My house closed today. The new owner is already moving stuff into my empty barn. Very nice people. My wife and I should be out in 1 to 2 more days.

We are extremely busy right now. Moving is hard work.

We are officially out of our old house.  New owners are absolutely thrilled.  Very nice people.  We let them move in as we were moving out.  Cleaned the place spotless before we left.

Our new place is piled high with boxes everywhere.  Looks like a Gypsy camp!  Oh well, we'll get set up.

So nice not having to go to my miserable job.  I don't miss that place at all.

Yes take is slow time is on your side now.   Also now would be a good time to make sure you need all that you moved.

I am finding thing yet after 14 years, saying now why did I keep this?

BINGO!!!! As you unpack those boxes, ask yourself. Do I need it, can some family member use it, or should I donate it, too old? Or should you replace it?

I know it sounds odd, but if you didn't use it in the last home?

I'm finding shit I packed up here more than 3 decades ago and for the life of me, have no idea why.
An old air conditioner that I bought new, still in the box. What a waste of money, can't sell it, even an extra RV rooftop air, taking up space.
I could list an entire page of crap that needs to go, but won't even sell at a yard sale.

Get rid of it now and save your kids the headache in 20 years.

Every week we donate or dispose of boxes of stuff.  I'm a "thrower-outer".  My wife is a "collector".  Don't get me wrong, she's scored some stellar deals but right now we're inundated with junk.

My original plan of building a big barn has been torpedoed due to high lumber prices.  We can actually buy a second property with a barn for less than building new.  That's what we're exploring.
