I'm working a miserable middle management job.  I pretty much gave up looking for a job months ago and am just plugging along one day at a time.  Every day I work with inner city scum customers and for a manipulative, obese white woman.  I damn near took a janitor job last month just to get away.  It's that bad.

Just got an email this evening that I am in the running for a job I applied for months ago and forgot about.  It's a wild long-shot, but I'm so geeked!  I'll keep you posted.

In the meantime my wife and I listed our house for an obscenely large amount.  Realtor was VERY confident it would sell.  No bites yet.

Good luck.

I was just doing the math on listing my place as well. Prices are through the roof for housing

What kind of job are you looking for?

At this point I'm wide open.  Most of my experience is military and civilian middle management.  All that crap about "we value veterans".  It's all BS.

Had a horrible day.  Job offer in hand.  HR "made a mistake" and awarded it to someone else.  Can't sleep.  Filled with rage.  Will show up tomorrow at my current job with maybe a couple hours of sleep under my belt.  Every day is a big fight with my boss.

Wife was in tears.  Kept telling her we got great things going on the horizon.

I'm not giving up.  I will get out of this crappy job and into something human eventually.

That's too bad. Go see your local Vet rep, mine was extremely helpful. He would call employers to get Vets jobs, I'm sure there is one in your area willing to help, if not, find another.

I'm almost at the end of a 8-day PTO.  I wake up every evening around 3:00 AM angry about my employer.  I absolutely dread my first day back.

Now for some good news....

Wife and I just received a reasonable offer on our house.  We'll probably counter in 2-3 days.  Also...  I just received an email from my old employer who I foolishly left almost 2 years ago for "big bucks" that turned into crap.  They want me back, but in another town.  Wife gave me the thumbs up.

Nothing's for sure, but it's progress.

AJ

I had to reluctantly turn down old employer's offer.  It was just too far away.  The early offers of remote working proved unfounded.  Oh well...  I was really stoked that they thought so highly of me.

We just sold our big house.  Closing will be in 30 days.  The wife wants me to quit my soul-crushing job, retire and move into smaller house and retire.  I think she's right.

I think you will find you will enjoy the smaller house and retirement.  After working 65 years I did.     Best of luck to you and the good wife.

Back in the day when I was young, I bought raw land, worked my ass off building a home, retired in my mid 40s.
If I'd had the cash available, I'd have bought a nice trailer and called it a day. Consider this option, you won't have neighbors to deal with.
I spend a lot of my time down by the creek. Think about it.

I'm not just "thinking about it" anymore.  The plan is fully in place.  I fully intend to join the ranks of the "very busy, hard working" retired.  I may get a part time job somewhere but I'm done with the corporate rat race.  If some really good job pops up, I may bite.  It would have to be a VERY good job.

By the way, my employer already hired my replacement about 2 months ago.  Surprisingly, my replacement and I have become very good friends.  He hates the company even more than I do.  Go figure!

The house should close on 15 September.  Once it does, I'm done.  Retired.

I will be sure to give my current (shitty) employer a proper 2 week notice.  They don't deserve that, but my name and reputation are very important to me.  I'm gonna go out on a positive note.

I'm really excited.  Wife and I are in 100% agreement.

We had a little bit of drama from the buyer; nothing too serious.  We should close on or about 15 September.

Work has gotten worse but I'm actually taking it much better knowing I won't be there long.  Given severe personnel shortages, I volunteered for some of the dirty, nasty and difficult duties just to keep the place running.  My goal is to leave with a stellar reputation.

I will probably turn in my notice in Monday or Tuesday.  It's risky since I don't trust my house buyer, closing dates or banks!  My employer may even agree to a "floating" departure date if my house closing doesn't work out.
