That's sad, but like I told AJ, hang tight, there is about to be a glut of lumber hitting the mkt because of all these fires.
Add to that, Trump gutting NEPA, and prices will fall even further, simply because there will be a steady supply of lumber for the foreseeable future.

If you live close to Northern area forests, a lot of independent loggers have portable mills and are willing to sell lumber cheap. Just have to have a strong trailer to haul it.
How does that old saying go, If you want to preserve something, create a market for it. ?

Would you like to change the thread title to say, "Retirement Thread" or something to that effect?

Yes.  "Retirement Thread" sounds good.

It was so warm today we decided to don shorts and walk up the creek with the dogs.  Steelhead were still running.  One of the fish actually bumped into one of our Airedales causing both to dart the other direction.  Hilarious!

I was going through some old paperwork.  I found a very bad (and very unfair) review I had received from my last employer.  It was issued to me by two managers: one who had a recent DUI and the other who I had crushed in a big argument in front of a high level manager.  Only bad review I had ever received in my entire life.

I took it outside and threw it in the fire.  I could almost hear demons screaming.  Great feeling.  It's destroyed forever.  I purged a pile of stinking excrement from my house.  Didn't even tell my wife!

I did the same when I retired. At the time I was just clearing out old paperwork, outdated material when I stumbled across a bunch of crap just like you described.
It didn't hit me at the time, but later, reflecting on days gone by, I felt a kind of elation, an uplifting feeling. I wondered later if that had been some sort of anchor I had forgotten about, and I can only assume yes, it did, but burning it all made me smile in the end.

After 5 weeks of retirement, I learned one thing:  I don't miss people.  Not one bit.  Same goes for everyone at my last employers.  I still keep in contact with one really nice dude, but I can honestly say that none of them concern me.  Does that make me a bad person?  If so, color me bad.

My wife and I have some very close friends; people we would do anything for.  They would do the same.  But....  I just like being alone out in the sticks.  I burned a giant brush pile all day in the pouring rain and was in heaven.  Wife made delicious chicken soup and cleaned up the basement.

Yep, you're retired!
