We had a little bit of drama from the buyer; nothing too serious.  We should close on or about 15 September.

Work has gotten worse but I'm actually taking it much better knowing I won't be there long.  Given severe personnel shortages, I volunteered for some of the dirty, nasty and difficult duties just to keep the place running.  My goal is to leave with a stellar reputation.

I will probably turn in my notice in Monday or Tuesday.  It's risky since I don't trust my house buyer, closing dates or banks!  My employer may even agree to a "floating" departure date if my house closing doesn't work out.

You are wise to take things slowly. A home closing has a lot of moving parts. Until you have the check in hand it is not a done deal.

Bingo! Cashed, and in hand! So much can go awry. Before Trump, the EPA was the biggest reason most home sales in Ca failed.

Usually to do with grandfathered in issue that were legal back in the day, only to be illegal later. The only way to rectify them was through expensive testing, FEES, litigation, more FEES, then a fine, more FEEEEES and then they'd sign you off, and not one thing changed.

Not to mention screw ups by paralegals. Here is coastal areas Flood Insurance can present occasional problems.

I had a neighbor trying to break up his 1000 acre spread, been in the family since before Ca was even a State.
The original survey was off by 3' in my area, he never moved the fence. The Title search discovered it and made disclosure, it cost him thousands to rectify the issue, prolonging the sale to go on for years.

In the Bay area, it was only off by less than an inch, but by the time the Mt Diablo survey reached my area it was waaaayyyy off.

I gave notice to my employer.  Conversation went well.  I will burn up PTO and leave a little earlier.

Realtor says all docs are signed and it's a done deal.  September 15th is closing date.  Apparently the buyer is VERY anxious to move in and wanted to move closing even earlier.  No thanks.  Current plan will work just fine.

No misgivings at all.  If you sensed any, blame it on my poor prose and fatigue.  The whole thing is very stressful as well, especially for my wife.  My full time job is high stress balls-to-the-walls, take no prisoners type of place.  In 5 short days I can walk away, head held high, never to return.  I'm beat down and burned out from almost two years of employer-induced misery.  Retirement is a dream.  This will be heaven.

If all goes as planned, 7 September 2020 will be my last day of work; forever!  The next big chore will be packing up and moving the rest of our household by the 20 September deadline.  We already have a great head start, so we can likely be packed up prior to closing date.

You'll love retirement, though there are stages you'll go through. I'd suggest researching it, and looking for tips to keep you active.

We have an agreement, if she wants it done immediately, she can hire someone. I retired before we met 10 years ago, so I ain't budging.

Just for shits and grins? Start a running diary in this thread as you start retirement. Kind of a, what it's like, how things are changing day by day or week by week.
It's been too long for me to even remember what it was like, but I do remember being in denial it had finally happened. I do remember not knowing what to do with myself, so many projects I'd been waiting to tackle and not knowing where to start.

But the big one, was when I had no idea what day it was, or even month, simply didn't matter anymore.

Oh, by the way. All those projects? They're still waiting.
