Sorry if this thread feels out of place. Before I get to the topic, let me switch the gear a little bit and start by saying:
- I'm not a clueless person that picked this forum randomly. At least I know Sen. Kenndy failed to be a proper gentlemen and held the car door for his date... he just surfaced all by himself :tounge:.
- Politically speaking, I'm more inline with Conservative Libertarian. In other words, people of all spectrum have just about the same amount of reason to like me as to hate me.
- Feel free to give whatever opinion that comes to your mind. Encouragement and advise are appreciated. Full-on criticism is appreciated. "I think you are an impractical moron" is appreciated. Anything would be fine, just don't give me the silent treatment, just sound off, I know it might feels kinda weird, after all, there are good reasons to assume not many Asian people frequent this forum.
- I can take criticism and I can take a joke, even the off-limit ones (but you might have a problem with the mods, lol), I mean c'mon, if I'm the hypersensitive type, I wouldn't be here in the first place. So just don't worry about it.
- The mods have every right to delete this thread as they see fit. And I apologize in advance if that were the case.
Ok, back to the topic. I'm an Asian guy, an engineer who lives in Asia, and I have a type. Fortunately, my type falls squarely on the Southern ladies. I know "southern" is a sweeping generalization, and different southern states tend to have completely different types, but... well, you get the overall idea. At a rather shallow level, I find southern twang cute and sexy. At a more substantial level, I like the sassiness and bold attitude of Southern gals, I love how both tough and sweet they can be, I love how they always try hard to present the world best images of themselves. So, this is how I picture a perfect SO would be like:
- She drives a huge pickup, and has a shotgun in the back.
- She has a Dixie flag (yea I said it, sue me!) or a Gadsden flag or both somewhere in her house
- She loves guns, and makes no apology for it. She has a rifle somewhere safe, and carries a loaded .375 sometimes, or all the time.
- She knows how to take a piece of advice but always makes up her own mind, and have no problem flip you one if you tried to tell her how to do things.
- I don't care if she is a professional or stays at home. But an active member of the U.S. military would be a huge plus, give me a woman like that who flies a Super Hornet, and I'll give you the happiest man in the galaxy. But I know that's just way way way too much to ask. LOL.
I fantasize that if I were
THAT incredibly and impossibly lucky, I'd be living with her in a cabin in the woods (yea I know, that sounds absolutely crass and corny, but meh, I guess some of us just don't know any better. Sorry, I guess). And we'd be adopting a lot of kids. Yes, adoption because I think orphans really deserve better things coming to them in life, and I take no joy in allowing my lady to suffer THE pain, again, I'm not gonna force my will on her. Side note: this is something I really, really love about American women. I've talked about this with some before (not necessarily southern ones), and they have the kind of bad-mule attitude of "I'll suffer the pain, it's a bliss and a gift, and it's why god put women-kind on earth in the first place". To which I can only respond in silent awe. I mean just whoa! What a wonderful and magnificent bunch! What's there not to love about them?
Please understand that I'm not delusional, I know dreams are dreams, and reality is reality. I know things wouldn't always turn out to be how I had pictured and I know life in the South can be unreasonably rough, but at the end of the day, I'll face all the hardship unperturbed, and say calmly: "I asked for it." And I won't be all that worried because I know I have someone great by my side.
Please note that this thread in no way attempts to be sarcastic or offensive. Again, my sincere apology if the thread made you feel that way. And I know reading all this stuff coming from an Asian person instead of a trucker or a rancher can be weird, grotesque and bizarre, or even comical. Trust me, I actually struggled pretty hard before hitting the "Post" button. I mean what are people here gonna think of me? "Who is this prick that just came marching in here spewing all this BS?" But... I just totally wrote all those above, so... well, I don't care. You know, you only live once, you have to do something stupid at some point right?
Thoughts? Tips? (For example, does the usual "go to a bar, start a conversation" formula work?) Suggestions? Oh and, don't forget the title question: do I have a fighting chance at this? Or do I have to bury it deep inside? I mean I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone tells me not many Southern girls are into Asian guys — especially the kind that I described.

Well for the moment I'm rather reluctant to post my pics. Maybe some time later, who knows. But based on comments passed by most females, both in my country and in America, I'd be fairly confident to say that I'm above average looking. Some American ladies even rated me pretty high on the scale when I asked them (don't worry, I don't do that often, I'm not the insecure type). But then again, it could be they were all trying to be nice. Who knows?
I walked through that thread though, some impressively good looking guys and gals. But I maintain my position that I'm above average looking :LOL:

Nah, I get it, my best friend since 1960 is Japanese, he couldn't stand the culture, me on the other hand, I loved the Asian culture, he'd date white chicks, I'd date Asian, yeah, it was kind of weird.

I'll try to be as honest as possible, but my ego may get in the way :LOL: Just kidding. I'm a simple guy with more than simple desires. That about sums me up.
I think people here might have been misled by my narration. My bad. I don't expect to find my girl here, I have been using the internet for more than 15 years, I know a bit or two about it. People who visit online political forums are usually (not all, of course) dudes that only know how to be aggressive in a gentle and civilized way :laugh: , I was more concerned about how to increase my chance of success in either real life or online dating sites.
Part of me tend to be pessimistic and tells me that a brilliant girl like that wouldn't take a second look at an Asian guy, because of race and cultural reasons (something that I'm completely cool with, after all, hey, freedom of choice), Asian people are often seen as tamed and docile and lacks "edges", but then again, a typical southern gentleman is like that... as long as you stay on his good side and don't do something stupid.
Then there's the other part of me that tells me in a rationally optimistic way: America is a melting pot, Most people probably wouldn't care too much even if you had purple skin (figure of speech), let alone being Asian, an ethnicity American people get to see, at least on TV, on daily basis.
That above is my main concern, and that's one reason I made this thread. Don't worry, I'm not talking about racism, I know American people tend to be awfully touchy when it comes to that particular subject, I'm talking about empiricism, about sticking to what you know best. Again. even if my chances are bleak, I won't stop. I will just try harder. It just takes a lot to stop me.

You are very much correct. We have a lot of nice ladies here, but the independent kind really is a rare breed. Cultural reasons. Girls here think it's adorable to act like a child and be dependent. I'm just not at all into it.
I don't care about good looks, good looks will fade away and won't worth a dime at the first sight of trouble. OK maybe it worth a lot more than a dime and good looks clearly don't hurt but... you get the idea. On the other hand, the spirit, personality and strength, qualities commonly refer to as "something inside", will last much longer, if not, forever.
But don't let my little sensational, melodramatic speech fool you into thinking I'm unrealistic. I know things are much more complicated, sometimes you get trigger really bad on insignificant things, sometimes you just want to pack up and leave, but for most part, you'll have to worry about bringing home paychecks, about going that extra mile so you don't get fired, about preparing dinners for kids in time so they don't get too hungry, about rising insurance premiums, about figuring out how you can afford to send all kids to college etc.

It's a great question, But I think the answer should go a little beyond just "I googled it" — I'll first have to expand a bit on how I became more like you folks. I'll put it a way as succinct as possible because no one wants to read a 500 page biography. Well officially I'm an engineer, the typical "overworked and under-appreciated" kind. I know how to draw circuit boards and I know how to code in several languages. But don't draw a hasty conclusion that I'm a boring geek, I am a geek, to certain extent, but more like that guy from 16 candles, no, definitely not that exchange student... in other words, I know how to fix your laptop but I also know a thing or two about smooth-talking.
I also enjoy a long chat with friends, although that's more of a luxury for me these days because... well, work work work.
So that's what I can think of at the moment, feel free to ask more. :smile:

LOL, I know you were joking, but it still made me kinda nervous. It struck too familiar a chord since that's what Chinese parents are somewhat obsessed with. But I understand full well the importance of material well-being and financial security. I have no problem taking care of my lady fiscally, even if it means that I have to get a third job :rolleyes:.
I make an honest living, my pay is considered decent in my country, nevertheless my savings are way above the American average, not because I'm a rich man, but because, to my great amusement, Americans don't seem to enjoy saving up too much. Having said all that, I think I can afford a nice little German roadster, the kind that Jewish lawyers in New York gift their daughters on sweet 16 parties. :tounge:

I lived in the suburbia but got urbanized lol. The pace of China's industrialization and urbanization is insane. I used to be a rural guy when I was little though. I went hunting with my uncle-in-law, doing hit-jobs on helpless hares. He wore a miner's helmet with a headlamp on it, his preys were so unfamiliar with modern ways of illumination, that they just stood up and look sideways trying to figure out what was going on. And before they could solve the riddle... on the plus side, they tasted mighty good. No fat. But we have to watch for buckshots all the time when chewing.
I took a few shots myself, using his shotgun, but never hit anything. I didn't enjoy it all that much because I was little and the gun kicked like a horse. But I did get to shoot a type-81, which is a Chinese variant of AK47 with foldaway stock, and a type-56 semi-auto, a Chinese version of the SKS when I was a teenager, which prompted me to fall in love with guns. But it was another story.
I still go to the country side for fishing and fresh air. Gone were the days when you had to pump underground water manually and everyone had this "help out or butt out" mentality. Urbanization, it doesn't stop for no one.

Sounds relaxing for sure. I love rural where folks is always helping folks. Best kind of people there are. You get a taste of it in suburbia but nothing like rural.

Don't know for sure. When I visit the site without a VPN, it usually takes a very long time to load and it often just stops and gives me an incomplete page, like all the fonts are extra large. Sometimes it jut won't load up completely. So I said "well, to that unpleasant place with it, I'll just stick to my VPN".
I'd guess that it's likely neither. The filtering and censoring of sites in China, for the most part, is rather random. It tries to discourage you from visiting foreign sites when it can't decide the content of the site you are visiting.
