I can assure you that I'm a little bit of both. I mean hey, a guy who decided he will find his missing rib in a whole different world, there must be something "off" with him, right? A guy who decided he will find his missing rib in a whole different world and puts a rather tall order on it, there must be something seriously "off" with him, right? And no, I'm not the easily settled type, I had an easy and a hard life, and I know everyone has only one go, so why not make the most of it? Even If I should fail, I will put up a fight before going down in flames.

Hey I'll keep that in mind :D, but I'm the kind of guy that's really hard to piss off or annoy. Especially when it comes to ladies.
Nah, I get it, my best friend since 1960 is Japanese, he couldn't stand the culture, me on the other hand, I loved the Asian culture, he'd date white chicks, I'd date Asian, yeah, it was kind of weird.
He finally met a Cambodian lady, and surprisingly, they married and had kids. She wears the pants when it comes to finances and the kitchen, and she lets him wear them the rest of the time.

I was not complaining.  Just shocked!

This guy may or may not be as presented, but he is highly unlikely to find his southern belle on this forum..

I'll try to be as honest as possible, but my ego may get in the way  Just kidding. I'm a simple guy with more than simple desires. That about sums me up.

I think people here might have been misled by my narration. My bad. I don't expect to find my girl here, I have been using the internet for more than 15 years, I know a bit or two about it.  People who visit online political forums are usually (not all, of course) dudes that only know how to be aggressive in a gentle and civilized way  , I was more concerned about how to increase my chance of success in either real life or online dating sites.

Part of me tend to be pessimistic and tells me that a brilliant girl like that wouldn't take a second look at an Asian guy, because of race and cultural reasons (something that I'm completely cool with, after all, hey, freedom of choice), Asian people are often seen as tamed and docile and lacks "edges", but then again, a typical southern gentleman is like that... as long as you stay on his good side and don't do something stupid.

Then there's the other part of me that tells me in a rationally optimistic way: America is a melting pot, Most people probably wouldn't care too much even if you had purple skin (figure of speech), let alone being Asian, an ethnicity American people get to see, at least on TV, on daily basis.

That above is my main concern, and that's one reason I made this thread. Don't worry, I'm not talking about racism, I know American people tend to be awfully touchy when it comes to that particular subject, I'm talking about empiricism, about sticking to what you know best. Again. even if my chances are bleak, I won't stop. I will just try harder. It just takes a lot to stop me.

I think what he's ascribing to in a Southern Bell, is quintessentially the early American frontiers woman.
Independent, strong, stands her ground, not particularly all that good looking.

You are very much correct. We have a lot of nice ladies here, but the independent kind really is a rare breed. Cultural reasons. Girls here think it's adorable to act like a child and be dependent. I'm just not at all into it.

I don't care about good looks, good looks will fade away and won't worth a dime at the first sight of trouble. OK maybe it worth a lot more than a dime and good looks clearly don't hurt but... you get the idea. On the other hand, the spirit, personality and strength,  qualities commonly refer to as "something inside", will last much longer, if not, forever.

But don't let my little sensational, melodramatic speech fool you into thinking I'm unrealistic. I know things are much more complicated, sometimes you get trigger really bad on insignificant things, sometimes you just want to pack up and leave, but for most part, you'll have to worry about bringing home paychecks, about going that extra mile so you don't get fired, about preparing dinners for kids in time so they don't get too hungry, about rising insurance premiums, about figuring out how you can afford to send all kids to college etc.

Welcome.

What do you mean by Asian?  Chinese, Indian, Pakistani, Saudi Arabian?

Oh, Chinese. I'm more of a product of probability theory. There are a lot of Asians in... Asia, and China has the most of them, so you got to have one or two rare birds right?

For someone living in China, you appear to have a better grasp of Western English vernacular than many kids that grew up here, why is that?

My brother spent time in China due to his job.  Said it was an amazing place.   He had some very nice stories of the places he went.
So do you live in the city or suburbia.  I would ask about rural but you don't seem to be a rural kinda guy, lol. Lordy be I could be wrong lol.

I do declare, that I am most happily spoken for.  That being said,  you must tell us more about yourself.

More than glad to!

How ever did you come to find us,

It's a great question, But I think the answer should go a little beyond just "I googled it" —  I'll first have to expand a bit on how I became more like you folks. I'll put it a way as succinct as possible because no one wants to read a 500 page biography. So the heavily abridged version: I started off being curious about certain economic issues back in high school, and found a book written by a guy (Chinese) influenced by a guy called Milton Friedman, which in a way  laid down the foundation for my later ideological development. And for some reason, I really can't remember the exact detail, at roughly the same time, I came to know an organization called Young Americans for Freedom (YAF), I took a keen interest on its ideals, and things kinda went from there.  I came a long way becoming who I am today, and along the process, I accumulated a considerable amount of knowledge about America, and to the best of my understanding,  I believe my dream girl clearly should have a much bigger chance of also being on the right side and decided to try my luck here, seeking advice. So that's my story.

what cha do, what your favorite things are. You know those little things.

Well officially I'm an engineer, the typical "overworked and under-appreciated" kind. I know how to draw circuit boards and I know how to code in several languages. I try to become an all-rounder, the type that can build a complete, fully-functional system from scratch, even though I knew quite well that it's impossible.

My favorite things... little things... so I guess Penélope Cruz doesn't really fit into the category huh? JK.  I love learning stuff, for starters, new knowledge excites me. I constantly try to polish my professional skills, because in my line of trade it's more about what you can master than what you have mastered.

I love to walk, while thinking about all sorts of things, sometimes it's those ewwwge (pardon the Donald Trump impersonation) subjects like the meaning of life, yea, I know it's silly.

I love documentaries, mostly science and technology stuff and ones about WW2 (pacific theater) & Vietnam War. I'm not a movie junkie, but I do like movies, more specifically, I love sci-fi movies that administer a healthy dose of intellectual challenge. I have the nasty habit of predicting the plot twist — I'll be pleased if I were right, I'll be thrilled if I were wrong.

But don't draw a hasty conclusion that I'm a boring geek, I am a geek, to certain extent, but more like that guy from 16 candles, no, definitely not that exchange student... in other words, I know how to fix your laptop but I also know a thing or two about smooth-talking.

I also enjoy a long chat with friends, although that's more of a luxury for me these days because... well, work work work.

So that's what I can think of at the moment, feel free to ask more.

Edit: Wow that's a lot of replies, I'll try to get to them one by one but I don't have much free time so expect delays, sorry about that.

You sound to me like you would make a good/fun teacher.

Are you still in China?

LOL, I know you were joking, but it still made me kinda nervous. It struck too familiar a chord since that's what Chinese parents are somewhat obsessed with. But I understand full well the importance of material well-being and financial security. I have no problem taking care of my lady fiscally, even if it means that I have to get a third job .

I make an honest living, my pay is considered decent in my country, nevertheless my savings are way above the American average, not because I'm a rich man, but because, to my great amusement, Americans don't seem to enjoy saving up too much. Having said all that, I think I can afford a nice little German roadster, the kind that Jewish lawyers in New York gift their daughters on sweet 16 parties.  :tounge:

Sounds like a charming friend and he has something in common with me. His wife also sounds like the well-balanced kind. Anyway, better to wear pants in the kitchen and the accounting room than somewhere else.
