I have been reading a lot lately about Primal/Paleo eating but recently started one on a Primal lifestyle.  As I am reading through it asks the question "Has overabundance and easy access taken away our "survival" instinct?"   As I started pondering this thought I realized it is true.  Except in a few cases no one worries about true survival.  Take food as the first example.  If you run out of something you just run to the store.  If you can't afford your food (or junk food) don't worry the government will take care of you.  We will even provide breakfast and lunch to your children so you don't have to be responsible for that either.  I mean come on who can better feed your children "healthy" food choices other than the government, because you are too stupid to make good choices for yourself let alone a child they allow you to have.

Food that use to be a reward is everywhere - candy, cookies, cakes - at a whim we can reward ourselves for everything from sticking to our diet yesterday, making it to work this morning, or even just because of a I deserve it mindset.  Treats are no longer treats.   Don't know about others but cake was something you got for your birthday (or your siblings birthday).  Ice cream was a special treat for the 4th of July barbecue, and Christmas - well that was hitting it big time.

Cake and ice cream was something we made at home on the farm, we did not go into town for it.  You went into town only for ingredients that you did not have to make thing. (salt coffee etc)

One thing we keep a lot of is TP.

Well, if life is too easy you might join me here next weekend. walks looks like he's training for the 10K or half!

I've never heard that "paleo" type diets helped "cavemen" have long life spans.
