Title: An Elfs World
Post by: Elfie on November 17, 2014, 06:56:06 AM
Suns out, grass is green and the wind is going to force me to look like the Michelin tire guy when I go out.  I have to go to Toyota and get an estimate for my parking lot dinged door.  Oh its just ugly, not fugly though, just ugly. Then gas it up, then I am thinking I need a new coat.  Then of course groceries.  Himself will go hunting wednesday.  Hahahaaa, nuff said lol.
Good weekend though, hit the river, didnt stay, got alot done.  Flipped to our friends house and got that concrete statue.  Its a. Saint.  I have no clue which one, I am not catholic.  But I couldnt see it going to the dump.  Her horse is preggers and due to foal next August.  I think we should have a foal shower, she laughs but its starting to sink to a good idea.pffft, why not!
Got home----football. Yesterday was pretty cool,,ummmm football
The nascar championship crowned Harvick.  I need a new flag now.
 football, so I knitted a set of leg warmers for the new granddaughter, she will be a year soon.
Well I spect I should venture out start the car, it warmed up to a big 14.
Hope you had a great weekend!

Title: Life of Elfie
Post by: Solar on November 17, 2014, 07:10:02 AM
Hey Elfie, I have an idea. To help others understand how these posts make sense, I thought it would be a good idea to maybe use this post as a running "Life of Elfie" thread, and you can update it as needed, this will give context to other nonmembers dropping by, giving them somewhat of an idea of what you are talking about.

For many, reading your posts have no contextual meaning, no flow, like opening a book and reading one paragraph.
So to help others understand what you're trying to convey, lets keep it all in a single thread, this one.

Hey, Elfster. After Solar turned 60 he ran out of energy-enough to read about your Crappy Weekends™. He gets all out of breath trying to absorb your Average Elfie Day. Maybe you can start him out on this Beginner's Slope and see if he picks up speed, keeping up.

It's 27f here... over an inch of snow-accumulation.  Yard-work done.  V-formations of geese overhead, on geese-business.  First snow always looks like a picture-postcard.

Snow's on the ground and it's 28 balmy degrees here in very-southern Michigan, enough to confirm my lifelong meme that if snow sticks for more than 24 hours before Thanksgiving, then we are in for an awful winter.

It's going down to 12F tonight. I haven't had the courage to look at the long-range 'casts. There's only so much at a time we can take of this, see.....

I love the first snow,,, I like the little snow diamonds that show up when the light hits it just right. Supposed to warm to 21,,,one more degree and we will hit it.   Snow came but it didn't stick or even cover us,,all around us it did about an inch but we are in the certain line that gets to watch it,, well unless Lake Michigan decides to dump our way or the wind blows to us.... I'm so ready for snow,lol...

Don't forget to set the ceiling fans up.  The wood stove is the one thing I miss in our desert area.  This is supposed to be spring time yet for us.     They say we will hit 13º by 04:00.

Whaaat! You left it behind!!! Me oh my.  The fans are on, not all of them, yet.  Its pretty windy out there so I will have to do the newspaper trick to make sure draft goes up instead of in.  Seeing as how it is so dry in here I call fresh soup day.  Gotta go to the store anyway as I will be grounded til Friday early evening.  Some asshat at the gym dinged my car door almost to the point of fugly.   Its better then a dent, just had it detailed to.
Gotta get Himself's stuff laid out for hunting, he leaves tomorrow.
It will be a usual day, hopefully I will have time to bake some bread, bought some because I havent had time, its yucky lololol.  I really should quit spoiling myself lololol.
Time to fire up the light, water and get on with it.

Yep!  We down sized and there was no place for it as it was so big.  Gave it to my BIL & SIL for his big shop.  My other BIL made it for us out of 7/16" steel and it would take a 2' log.  Fire it up and close it down and it would burn all night and then some.

Ofa gloomy grey Saturday.  Ice rain fell last night, i ordered a pizza and Lira and I hung out after I hot my car back.  I have to take it back Thursday, they didnt get the right size protective thing for the
door edge.
But all in all, I am doing well in my solitary week. Does not even phase me in the slightest to not have people around.  Should I be afraid of that, I honestly dont know.
Himself was really excited and has every right to be.  He tagged an 11 pt buck yesterday. So so very happy for him. I am sure he will get that bad boy mounted, I have 2 spots it can go, he said it was to dark for pics, then again, he doesnt get his phone has flash on the camera.  So today he said..they are out in field now.
And with that, it's give a dog a bath day.  Fertilize the veggies and get the rest done...and also relish in the fact I do not have to watch chronic football this weekend.

Good for Himself.  He did something like that about 3 years back as I remember.

Was in Costco yesterday and big TV's 55" and above were going out the door big time.   So the Super Bowl games must be coming up very soon.   All I am thinking is Wow they would make nice computer monitors.

Yes he did and I dust it off and decorate it at Christmas time. He said he cant mount this one, a to high neck shot.  So I asked him if he was going to hack off the rack and mount that. He is, so I have a space next to the mount that should be enough space for that, its kind of hard to tell width in a pic....

Macys parade will start soon, so will the dog show.  Happy Thanksgiving.
We will be spending it at my sister in laws. I will go across the street and see our daughter, she is having Thanksgiving there for her Mom and all of them.  Then after the dishes are done we will head back here.
This weekend is put up Christmas, lolol, I always do.  I will run to the grocery if I have to, there is that cityit tradition of black friday where people venture out with a zombie shopping face. Its just not safe out there.  For some reason the laws of driving are thrown out the window, their eyes glaze over with tunnel vision, ugh... It is not good.
Have a good day today.

Ofa Saturday.  They say it will be 50 today. Himself is at the shop, I will be putting up Christmas, well start , no not start, continue, lol.
Tree is up, little tree on my craft desk that faces out the window to the back yard is up.  I will use my little tray table, it's. Only a month.  I am filling my me time with painting my resin gazing ball stands. Gives them longer life and, they don't blend in with the siding.
Other then that, its been quiet.  Thanksgiving was nice.  Not a whole lot to report on.
I am bothered by the news.  These riots are off the charts. Senseless to me.  The Rice ruling, I mean really??????.  Ugh drives a little woman nuts I tell ya.
But, right now its time to string lights, yaaay!

Took M into have her eyes check, after 5 yeas he said she could use new glasses.  Not bad for her age.  He said she could go two more year if she likes.  I said no way she read and sews way to much, I told him money was not a problem.  So she will get two sets,  everyday and reading glasses.  If she not reading she is sewing.

It call for no snow today.     So we made a day of it, and had dinner out.  When we came out form eating it was snowing.  So off for home.      So like most places in Washington we had to go up over the hill.  Town is 642' ABSL and the hill is 1543' ABSL.  There was about 1" on the hill is all and only about ¼" at home so no big deal.  The cold front is heading East so the East is going to get hit again.

Thanksgiving Day AM was sunny with some high clouds, with temps in the 50s and 60s here. A great AM for a 10K Turkey Trot on San Jose's Coyote Creek Trail, and then some delicious turkey and fixings in the PM with family.

Lazy day Friday. Rainstorm early Saturday AM: it was pouring pretty good while I was driving to Fremont (~1/2 hour away) for a half marathon. It tapered off as I got close to Fremont, and by the time I got to the venue it had stopped. The race was in Quarry Lakes park and along Alameda Creek Trail, mostly overcast, with temps in the 50s.

Today, it's been raining here for the past couple of hours, the high today is supposed to be 61. We definitely need the rain; thankfully it looks like another storm is coming in Tuesday.

There's a reason I don't complain of Silicon Valley weather. Stay safe and warm, folks in places that have a real winter and real weather!

Good she will still be able to do as she likes, Maam Mary should!
Our snow went away yesterday and today.  I thought about mowing but, naaaaa not gonna lol

Ofa Sunday, the last day of whacko shopping.  I got the tree up, the deer head has it's hat. Dinning room is done, front window is done. Now I am simmering a pot of ham and beans and baking an apple pie.  When the pie is done, I will do some corn bread.
Everyone who does outside lights have been out sprucing things up.  I dont do that, nope, not alot of fun taking things down in the frozen. So I will enjoy my neighbors stuff.  One of my neighbors does up her back yard, it looks really nice.
Oh well, I am spent lol.

So you ran and had a good Thanksgiving.  Thats GREAT! 10k is not for mejust yet.  Kudos you can.
It' good you had an awesome day all the way around.

I wish I could run to a decent degree, but I walked all but a few dozen yards in both. Yesterday was my 8th completed half this year, but I'd never done a 10K and a half in such quick succession. "Can I do this?" was an open question. I was thoroughly done in the last couple of miles. I've only been doing halfs for a little over 2 years, so I'm sort of finding my limits and trying to expand them at the same time.

Well I put light up out side, all along the top of the fence line.  I put them 3 side of the house as no one live on back side or drives on back side this time a year.   M like see the light all winter long.  You can see them from over 5 miles away on the highway.  So I take the down just before spring.   It keeps a  on her face and that is always nice.  The tree will go up in a week or two and down right after new years as the house is way small then we had.

Thats pretty neat.  I like when we come home from the river and I can see Christmas lights far away on the farms.   My backyard neighbor does it up to, lights, deers and some other stuff I cant see thru the bushes. Its nice.

Rain splatter on the Windows, its muggy grey outside.  The diva princess pup is sleeping on the couch, me, I think it's time to well I don't really know,,,
Quick recap from December til now.  Lets see, it's not been fun that's for sure.  I been executor of 2 estates, one is done the other is gonna be fugly.
Super cells that spawned the June tornados are the camper, insurance hoops are just so exciting. Now we are looking, well cuz we can.
On the other hand, cabin didnt flood, my gal pals horse had a baby a month ago this week. Her name is Olai, a palamino she is.  So cute she is. Three weeks n 4 days ago I got to help the vet give her plasma.  I'll never have that experience again,,,but I am imprinted on her now.  To cool.
Other then that, all is ok.
So how's everyone here?  Hope you all are doing just fine.

I have been on line searching and discovering since last week of June.  Its , for us about layout and storage.  I know he is going to go into storage shock lol.  But I also know I can adjust to fit and be productive.
Should be interesting this day.

Its pretty sweet, I cant wait to get it here so I can set it up. Himself is going to love the power awning, stabilizer jacks and hitch. Counter space, meh, but functional, good storage inside, but under well, we shall see. Its going to be an adjustment going from a 45' total length to a 32.2'.
But it will keep the cling ons from thinking. hehehe.
I would much rather be able to get and hit it with a tiny house....

When I was building my business I bought and lived in a tiny 16' Aristocrat Low-Liner trailer with the wife for a year.
However, we parked behind the business which had showers and all the amenities, so it was doably sufferable for the year.
A decade later I bought a 25' motorhome with plans of moving to Alaska, instead found an amazing deal on 10 acres here in the Sierra, where I lived for 3 years in the motorhome. :scared:

The thing I noticed is the evolution that's taken place over the decades, is the planning that goes into these units and today's models are by far better laid out than just a decade ago.
I looked at some and was extremely impressed at the use of usable space and design in not wasting a square inch of space.

We're toying with the idea of a diesel pusher, though expensive and a bit on the cumbersome side, we want something that the dogs can travel with us in comfort.
Yeah, the dogs are spoiled.

I think you will find there a lot of thing that would be nice to have around just in case.  But you can live with out them.  Half the thing we would that on a trip for 3 to 6 months we did not use.   As long as M had her rocking chair for outside she was happy.

Been a check of a week. But, right now we are at the track. Learning the camper and having some lovely thunder smackers.  A few bouts had rotation, but no funnel clouds here. A town over yep, but not here.  Heavey rains have flash flooding going on all around.  More tonight later though.   Should be done about 4am.
I feel bad for the grounds guys.  They are going to be busy with wood chips filling all the little floods.  Even ours,  We have at least 2 inches of standing water between the front of the camper and the road, lol. I don't care, I figure that's what flip flops are for.

Himself is pleased with everything.  It's just the learning part.  Friday we looked and read and figured out, well, best we could. Saturday we had 9 people, 4 spent the night. We both declined any help as we have to learn it. That's ok.  They understood it.
Race days were a lot of fun. By night we had the fire going, people stopping by, fireworks,
A live band 40 feet away. Tons of food, to much to drink for some, lol.
But then the granddaughter tested and let us know one of our oldest friends had a heart attack and died.   Changed the whole pace after that.
But we are home now. Tomorrow is another day.

They are a staple in LA and MS. Fried frog legs are heaven. All white meat with a texture between fish and chicken.

Pan fried in the nothingness of batter.  Here's one if those times when I wish I could be there when you tried them so I could make sure they were perfect. Before youctrued them.

Got 3/4 of the camper wiped down, got my white chili made, lol, I just went thru the store and thought hmmmm, white chili, hmmmmm, helped set up the 4 judges with a taste of the 15 chili that entered.  Talked to everyone, had a fun time.  He wanted to watch the race so back to the cabin.  I kicked up a fire in the pit, turned on my Pandora and watched that pretty full moon rise til about midnight.
Got up Sunday, we messed around with the camper some more learning water levels and redoing the septic dump whatchamabob and family started showing up. BIL hosted a bday party for his daughter.  So I snagged my SIL up, my niece and we went to go see the pony.  Olai is so cute, she will be 2 months old this week.  I go see her every weekend I can.  She is palomino her back is just above my waist. Mom Ruby was a bit skittish with the new people, but she got over it when I started talking and she made sure she knew whom I was.
Back to the cabin and I cleared the yard with the blower. Our little Darling was running around like almost 2 yr olds do.  Good thing I did,  came across 3 toads, Wouldn't be good if she squished one lol. That and I couldn't take a chance on anyone rolling an ankle on the fresh fallen walnuts.
The party was nice,, and then it was time to go home.  We got a clear sight of the blood moon.  That was so pretty,  I figure next time it comes I will be watching on my porch somewhere in the country.
Yesterday I woke up to a nasty invasion of sugar ants.   Half of my counter was covered with the little buggars.  Spent the day bleaching and cleaning everywhere they were, then I set baits.  Sure enough there they were, in the night coming in thru the garden window weensy teensy corner.  Put some liquid killer down, sprayed a no cross line and watched them come in by huge numbers.  They found the bait and tonight will do the tell. I bet I had half a colony.  Never again ,,,
Today I flipped to Chicago, had to get permits for a job.   Note to self, take the train! Good golly the road construction was insane coming in, going out and all thru downtown. I sure am glad I took a cab from where I parked.  With all the road construction everywhere I would have lost my crackers!    It rained today so the ceiling was really low,  I just like the way that looks when the clouds drop and cover a lot of the skyscrapers a quarter or half. The lake had white caps every where. The tall ship and The Odessey and the Seadogs were secured but good. As were all the harbors with their assorted boats.
Tomorrow, I put on my Granny hat for 2 days, I will have Darling. She is a hoot!
So that's that.
Time to do dishes and see how many ants have survived.  I sure hope it doesn't look like Orks coming to take over middle earth again....

Good morning, it's Sunday! Race day....Football day!  What cha gonna do day lol.
We've watched the news now, Meet the Press. Lira is outside scouting her back yard.  Something not usual for her during the summer.
In a bit, I'll text Big M and find out when they go home.  I will put up the jalapenos either in jelly or straight.  Then I will hit the garden room.  Yesterday kicked that notion,  Chas 2.50 for 1 head of iceberg lettuce!!!! That's nuking futz! So I will ready that room.   I also get a kick out of calling the police dept. Lololol, hello can I talk to the drug enforcement officer please.  Who is this? And do you have something to report? Why yes I do,,,this is Elfie, I live at.......??and I want to report I have one grow light and will be using it to grow veggies inside my house,  the window faces the street and no I am not hiding the light by any means.  If you would ask if they would like to come and check it out NICELY, that would be great!..... Of course the lady is busting up laughing lol.
It would suck to have em wreck my salad stuff, that and would cost a boat load of money to explain a drug bust for lettuce and tomatoes in court.
Trump is on MTP.   In a Living room kinda way......I have to raise an eyebrow, lol, and wonder what if,lol

Trees are beginning to change color. This year it's not yellowish and blah like two years running, so we might have some really great reds and oranges this season. Our days and early evening are filled with the sound of excavation equipment and bulldozers outside the house. They're redoing two straight blocks of 1870s storm drains and so forth. The bad news? Vibrations. Headphones just ain't gettin' it.

Aye, colors here to but mostly green, some yellow,, but mostly green.
Construction noise is no fun.  But on the other hand, rather important to get done , well I would think so. That's just me. The noise of my day was leaf blowers and power washers.  It's time to begin to ready everything for winter around here.
Lira spent the day hunting a chipmonk in the wood pile, playing with her bed , a pit bull whom is just happy to be happy in his life.
Friends have been coming over, then we went back and forth.  Finallycitcwas fire time.  Dang chilly on the river and me without my snow suit. Ugh, is ok.
Dinner is done, baseball is on......GO CUBS GO!
With that we have blues blaring a fire going and why am I sitting here typing......
I'll play lol.  Out the door I go.   Yes it's chilly,,,yes the stars are so bright you feel like you could just pluck them out.  But a fire in the pit and blues on the stereo......
I gotta!

Of a Monday...
It's to be a lovely day today. Sunny and warm, perfect for ripping gardens and short cutting the lawns. That's the plan.
Cabin is 3/4 done and ready for winter.  We have to get a good set of deer cams for surveillance.  We have unknowns jacking with our lot.  Dock boat removal is next weekend so I will make dinner for all that's helping.
I also have learned this morning that my work out partner has decided to move her go time to 5:30 a.m.  She's now going with her sons girlfriend.  That's ok with me, I don't have a problem with it at all. She will be helping the girlfriend tremendously. It's good to have a buddy that benefits from what you do.
So have a good Monday.....out the door to slam it out and be done with it.

Another summer almost done.  Fall colors are out, the farmers are bringing in the fields and we've just had that first slap of winter air.  Good for getting rid of bugs in the air. Frozen air aloft showed the crystal rainbows.  Those are the tiny ones in the clouds.  We saw 9 different ones Friday night. To pretty.
Saturday was get it out day.  While the guys took out 4 docks and 3 pontoons.  I made lasagna.  Checked the camper to make sure it was warm enough.  Grabbed the blower and started on leaves in our place and next door. Then it was time to bake that lasagna lol.  Made a full dinner for 6. Himself put up the tarps on 2 sides and he put the patio heater in and fired that up.  Had 9 under the cabin watching the Cubs.  Then 2 more showed up and we just stayed comfy in the cold night. Worked out really well. Down river another spot did the same thing lol. All of us watching intently.
Today was really nice in the sun.   I only have a wee bit more to do next weekend.  Then we will ready it for winter.  They turn off the water Nov 1.
Bears game, NASCAR was the tv flavor.  My friend and I took Diva princess Lira and Madame Marley moose for a good walk.  Madame Marley is in pitiful shape.  She got poisoned by someone in their neighborhood a year ago.  Pretty much destroyed her.  It's very painful to watch her try and walk, maintain balance, she has lost all muscle mass.  But she won't give up.  She had another bout,  Today she drank water on her own....I could go on, but it , well........
Got my costume all set, studying my makeup....just need to figure out a couple of things.  I do wish I could find some 3' tall dolls.  I need some zombies lol.
This tired elf is out!

So what did you do in your spare time.  Sounds like you had yourselves a R/C/Weekend MeLady.

I do not like the new small heater for the 5er.  When the power goes out they will not come back on until you reset them.  I have 4 of the old ones that I replace the contact switch when I can no longer clean the contacts.

Oh well,  that....hmmmm.  Um I futzed around doing more little winter ready stuff.  Worked on a new knitting stitch.  Helped my friend decide how to make a tiara type thing for her Ursala costume.  Not much lol.
The little stand alone heater worked great.  It got 32 next to the river and we had, no wanted to make sure the lines didn't freeze Friday or Saturday.  It did really well on low. This weekend we winterize it.  Along with the cabin.

Back to the gym.  It's pretty nice.  Been putting summer away here.  Slapping Halloween bits up.  I decided to groom Lira myself lol.  She's not to bent out of shape about it.  I do need a old coffee table to put her on lol.  I really don't feel like looking like I am changing oil under the hood of a car while clipping tummy fur.  Lets not even think about all that hair on my head.  I'll figure it out.
But fall is here,  Pot roast in the crock pot, got the last of my costume ready to go. I've decided to be an old grey cat....  Should be good.
Back to work for me.....

It will be a 68º day for us, but in the sun if will feel like 80º.  Love this time a year.  I don't have to put a hat on when going outside.  It was so hot this summer that some flower are now just starting to come out.  They had long green stems and green leaves but no buds.  They started budding out last week and now we have flower.   Things that make you go Hmmmmmm....

We have upper 60.  It's really nice out.   I thought I would come home to my flowers being zapped by last week's freeze, but nope.  I have roses that are budding and opening this late.  It's weird.
Hats, yep, I am going to have to start with those.  I spend way to much time outside not to,lol.

Wind block is back up, so is the patio heater lol.  Football is on, the guys are down there being guys lol. I'll get my gear on and go downstairs in a bit.
A grey day, decent temps though.  We are doing the last bits for winter prep.  Only thing left is filling the 55 gallon drum with water.  We keep that in the shower.  I'll set the 25 supper for hot water for whatever when we come back in a couple of weeks.  Set and ready.
Didn't do much, spent a while listening to rain and watching leaves fall.  Flipped to the store for a light dinner.  Just cleaned that up. Salmon, avocado, large portabella and some tater tots.  Its been a long while since we had those.  Anyway, got back and fired up the blower.  Did ours and our neighbors.  He took the a.c. units out so I did Windows. Those darned Asian beetles had invaded.  I really don't like those little beggars.  Our bat wasn't in its usual place.  He had been there, I had to clean his deposits lol.  Cute little brown bat sets up residence under the a.c..   Gone now. Fridge cleared and cleaned.
Saw my gal pal. I have got to go see Olai.  Little pony just over 2 months.  Love that girl, lol.
It's a beauty of a night.  Stars shining.  River is slow and dotted with fall leaves.  Even had some happy campers go by.
Yep,,,,time to rest and see if I can watch this game.  Football for me is a slow release sleeping pill.lol

I opened the door, checked the temperature, and it was forty two degrees. Not sure what the big deal is. It is just about perfect for Soda Pop. The light in there still works too. Life is good.
On an even funnier note, one of the evenings Trick or Treaters stripped down to her under- pinnings
because her wedding dress costume was too hot to wear. And yes, life is still good.

Storms are The call for this evening.  So will end the 70 degree days.  I've been outside taking, mowing, putting yard decorations away.  I have an angel of concrete that needs a painting,  it will come inside today so it can completely dry.  I will fix her up over the winter.  Might have to mow one more time.
Today I have to go to the city.   I am not impressed :sneaky:, so off to the concrete jungle I will go.   I honestly dislike going there.   Even for concerts, I can't get out of there fast enough.
Started my plants,,green beans up, radishes up, waiting on spinach and egg plant.  Not waiting my time on tomatoes any more.  Well I gotta get ready.
Have a great day.

River 99% ready for winter.  Moved 2 campers to high ground, pontoon and the last dock. Thank goodness for the leaf blower. I did 4 lots, why because all of them get blower to us and since they harbor fleas and ticks trying to hold on....they gotta go.started thatching so I can start tossing grass seeds.
Of course Lira diva princess reminded me she is a "dog".    No one is there so she likes to investigate. Yea she found a lovely horrifically smelling whatever to roll in.  Ewww, was pretty gross,  I thought I got it with freezing rain water and some dawn.  We got home and instant bath.   She's all good now.
I really don't appreciate her reminding me she is a dog.

VETERANS Day it is.  Always makes me , no has me in a host of oddness.  Just does.
Big windy storms are headed for us today.  Could get real interesting, or not, in any case I back checked the yards and all things com will be charged fully. Slap some solar lights in full sun for the just in case lol.
Schlepped a half cow from butcher to freezer yesterday and then took a huge lot to my MIL for her freezer.  Took Lira to the vet. Needed her shots of rabies and lepto, she's acquired a seasonal allergy.  Since the topical, dermaplast, only worked to relieve the itch, she got a shot and has meds.  She was truely devastated this morning, side effect is accidents because of more water then usual, they weren't kidding.  , not her fault, but she doesn't understand.  So somewhat grounded and tune into her while supposedly sleeping will be it.
I have lots to do, making venison jerky today, we will run to store to get ready for whatever comes......  I have been told by a few I should think about a blog.  Threw me off,  I don't know about that one. But I'll think about it for now... I'm afraid my mouth filterwon't do just that....filter.

Been a little busy lately.   Sorry I have not been in.   I planted some more veggies, waiting for them to pop.  Some lettuce, green onions, easy to grow stuff, can't seem to figure out tomatoes.  Have no clue what I am doing wrong.  I'll figure it out.
Sent the man hunting, along with his son and friend.  Sure hope they tag, then again, I kind of figure a bad day hunting is equal to a bad day fishing.
Lira came down with a seasonal allergy.  I tried everything I knew, but in the end it was off to the vet.  The meds created accidents, oh that was not fun. But shed adjusted now after a phone call.  So far so good.
Then the first winter event is , lol, not done but the snow is out.  North of me got huge amounts of wet snow.  It just kept on coming and coming lol. We got just at 3". I've been shoveling all day.  Well ok, not all day just 3 times.  I discovered it was slush when I did the deck so Lira had a way. Oh mylanta what muck! Knew I was in for it, so I just did it.  Very heavy but I am glad I got it done.  Now the freeze is coming.  Got the salt out and spread it so I can walk without looking like a penguin. :)
Was supposed to do one of those wine painting parties tonight.  Yea notsamuch.  First the roads are crap, yes I know I will hear how clear they were, no I don't care.  I am here with the dog on meds and been shoveling slush all day,,,a bit tired.  So I elected to not go, stay safe to paint another day. Besides that, I quit drinking, so although painting would be fun, it's a drunk fest.   Tomorrow is gather at daughters to make baby shower stuff.    yep,  nuff said.
Well they filled 3 tags, don't know if they will hunt in the morning or not. Just have to wait.
So, I will hang out here, fire going, dog running in and out, searching the net for a little house that we might like.  I'm seriously not having a good year on any front,  it's a little difficult trying to make it make sense where there isn't any lol

He went hunting on Wednesday.  It was just me and Lira until bout 7 last night.  I futzed around not really getting anything done.  But, that ok, sometimes ya just need time to look very very deep.
Got slapped with some nasty weather Saturday. We lucked out with the slush snow with 3" of the gunk.I shoveled many times to stay ahead of it.  It was decieving to say the least.Looked like just snow on the top but actually it was water.   When it stopped I salted the daylights out of everything lol.  The winds started and The temps dropped for a big freeze.  And it did.
Woke up yesterday with a burrrr, half the car was frozen shut. Took a while to warm it up lol. Then I parked it in the sun after I was able to open the drivers side lol. Came in got my 4 way chili ready for a fun afternoon of making diaper cakes and wreaths for my nieces baby shower.  Ohh that was fun, armed with baby trinkets, and useable thing like bibs and socks and little things like that, over 400 newborn diapers had to be rolled up and done.  Took about 3.5 hours to do.  I have one project to do here, which is letter the boys name on a wooden whale.   Must find a couple of chalk pencil things.
Now it's Monday, Thursday is Thanksgiving.    Will be different that for sure...

This is true lol.   Right now, the oldest greatness, every time I see him, its Granny where we going lol.  I only knew 1 of my greats.  She took me everywhere and did things, even when she was in her 90s we could go in and just be. Good memories.

Suns out grass is green and its sweatshirt weather.  Crazy temps.  I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving. Ha! Are you ready for Christmas?   Yea me neither.
As of late, I have been taken up by teaching myself how to make butter.  You see, one day I got bored and had some cream that would just go to rot, so I thought, why not.  Not bad, couple more tries and I might have it down.   I've been decorating coffee cups to.  Me, my oil pen, and the oven.  Learning new knitting stitches and doing a bunch of pressure canning to.
For my next feat, I have decided to do my own dog grooming.  That's taken some time to research, I'm ready.  So this week, while himself is at work, it'll be me, Lira, the coffee table, thinning shears and the electric razor.  I can't do it today, nope, football Sunday, I just can't take the coffee table away lmao.
The decision is made to incorporate a trainer at the gym.  For now just on Tuesdays and Thursdays,  that way the rest of the days can be for practice.  Time to switch it up!
I didn't realize its been a few since I had been around, guess I'll have to get off of Pinterest......its my new shut the world out obsession....
Off to read and see what I have missed!

Well the sky's were grey and it rained lol.  I was on a mission to finish the wee bits left out there amount the happy shoppers.  I took every less used road I could as they are in zombie mode soley focused on gettin it done.  I lucked out, knowing the high school kids were either still sleeping or gathering their crew.  I was glad I had no reason to go inside the mall.   The mall is scared this week,,,,,it gets infested with mall rats.  I don't like mall rats.   They are like zombie drivers.  They don't see you, don't look for you and try to bounce around you in cut off speed to get there.
I went into one store and things were going very well.  Skids full of product blocking the aisles, workers slamming these hot items....don't ask, I don't know.... I was calmly trying to get to housewares without getting run over.  An excuse me here , a Bless your heart Merry Christmas there. Quick swerve to avoid collision of the carts. Then the screeching crying of the small ones started.  Oh mylanta,  when the count of 3 different highly disgruntled little ones chimed I knew my time was up.   Off to Gander Mountain,,,,,it was quiet there, almost calming.    I like Gander Mountain.
When I knew I had one stop left......Walmart, I took matters into my own hands, I would survive this......so I scruffed up hair a smidge grabbed a cart and started talking to myself out loud. Repeating the mantra,,,,ribbons, candle, yarn over and over.  I thought it particularly nice people would move a bit to the left or right.  Must have been the highly calculated circular motion while pointing to signs, yes, it helped.
All good til I got to yarn.   I ran my fingers thru my hair and settled in to find a medium size yarn, color kind of like a good fall color.  A woman came up and couldn't find sewing thread. I smiled and helped her find the large white thread.  I mentioned to make sure she got the right kind.  Big discussion on what the difference would be between, so I just explained she might want regular for sewing cotton or uphlolstery for sewing heavy or canvas.  She thought and decided she would take the white all purpose as she was going to do eyebrows.
I backed away, wished her well, came home and haven't left.
How was your day?

Big-box retail stores aren't nearly as crowded as last year. Our local noose-paper said it's due to increased on-line buying.

A morning.....it's a bit chilly this morning. But that ok,  just might fire up the wood burner, haven't decided yet.  I have a few things to get done today so it doesn't run on into this coming week.  Must clear my leaf lettuce and start some new seeds.  I used a shallow dish---- dumb idea but it seemed to make sense at the time lol.  Its fertilizer day so that will be done.   I'll run some laundry, and continue to fill boxes.
A few know that I lost 2 of the most influential women in a girls life.  My Mom and my Grandmother both left within bout 4 months of each other.  Needless to say this year has not been very nice.  More like a nuclear tornado. But I can go thru this domicile now and not get all girly emotional. I have my sense of humor back....sort of, it's getting better.
So I am going thru every nook and cranny of this family home and dividing with a best I can do hand of fairness.   There is a lot here.  Understandable as it has been standing since 61.  Nope, don't need any help.  I'm pretty much done with the fury cryin pukin part.
Anyway, its party planning time for the river.  This is gonna be a good one.   How we are going to pull off the first big one I don't know.... Zydeco music.....good golly we have to find good dancing all around zydeco music....  Any ideas would be appreciated cuz this little person doesn't have a friggin clue.
So that that daylights a  burning!

Hit the gym today. Felt good to bust that out. Now, it's return to real life and get it done.

It's friggin cold in here. May have to make fire, yep, I'm thinking so.  Then again we are to get snapped with a polar vortex Sunday and Monday.   I am not looking forward to that.  But I kinda figured this el nin-whatever wouldn't last.
So some venison in the crock pot is the call.  Then I gotta work some today.  Our niece got married yesterday.  She didn't let it be known, and that ok.  She wants a big wedding.  I am discovering there are a lot of people that do the court house thing then have a big blow out sometime later.  Myself, I dont understand that way of thinking.   2 anniversary to deal with, all that stress of planning and spending.  Just doesn't make sense. Oh well, I'll just file that under, not my circus- not my monkeys.
Better get to it... Have a great day.

Good morning peepers,  fresh out of the gym and ready for a day.  Did pretty good all in all. Cranked out some planks, Did some free weights, busted out my own version of rowing,  switched to the bike thingy instead of the tread mill.  I only like the tread mill when I do what I call face crawlers.   Whats that, well,  ya get a floor mat, ya lay it on the floor in front of the tread, you get down anchor yourself on your fore arms "plank position" put your toes on the tread and start moving your feet, maintaining that plank position.  Go to fast and your on your face. Hence face crawlers. It's only brutal until ya get the swing of it. Lol.
Good news/ yucky news.   Great niece (3 months) was released from hospital yesterday.  She got rsv pneumonia.  Did bout a week in icu, but she is good now. Newest great grandson is having nutrion issues.   Mom and Dr have tried everything, now it's specialist time....  Then, like that not enough, my other niece will find out today her test results.  She's very pregnant and they have discovered ICP.  Today they decide if they go and have that baby or let things be.   I am still reading so I understand just what that is.  Been a up and down 2 days.
With that, we are gonna get slapped with weather this weekend.   Rain, measureable snow, whatever that means and they don't know yet.  Oh and arctic air they say but the numbers are bouncing. Lololol, gotta be ready for whatever I guess.
Now it's on with my rest of the day....have fun with yours lol

Ahh well.  Baked, made soup, canned up soup, knitted, played with the fur kid.  Its decent enough to go out, so I will. Just trimmed my hair myself.  Did good lol.

It's getting warmer.  I do feel for the east coasters who are going to get dumped on the next few days.  That's going to be a mess for days.
Just put a crock pot together.  No fuss, no muss, easy peasy.  I like that.
Lost 90% of my indoor garden.  Ugh, one day all good, no problems. The next full coverage with spider webs.  I have no clue how the heck that happened and I am not real happy about it.  So I bleached and super cleaned and got rid of.   I'll figure it out.   Just another thing to make me nuts.
Lira is outside,  I think we both need to do something in a while. Its making us both a little nuts not being able to be outside. I wonder if there is places that maintain winter above 30 on the average lol

We are averaging 45 to 50º over the next 10 days.  Night time low will be about 32º is all.  I can live with that.  We have had snow only 3 times this year, and it was gone in 2 to 3 days each time.

Yes there are.  I'm on the So. Calif. coast and we average in the 50/70 range during winter.  We even get an occasional heat wave, but not the normal.

We're about four days after our first snow, with a third still sprinkled on the ground. It got down to about minus-5 one night and a daily low of 10-above. Today was around 25. Things could be a whole heck of a lot worse.

Got another light dusting yesterday, but no real accumulation. Meanwhile in Washington, D.C., traffic FROZE SOLID with one inch of snow. Drivers left their cars after waiting FIVE HOURS for help.

Slid right into a concrete base for a light-pole. Tough to change oil after that, but hey, anybody gunning a lightweight Dodge Colt on an icy parking lot deserves what he gets.

LOL...I had a Dodge Cult.

Even though the engine and drive train may have been bullet proof, the rest of the car could be taken out by a bird at 70 MPH on the freeway.
Grill caved in, hood flew up, ripped off the hood, broke the windshield. Actually totaled the car, took my check from State Farm, sold the car to a farmer to use running an orchard.
Bought a damn beat up Ford truck.

Its Sunday, back just in time for football lol.
I feel bad for the east coast.  We got nailed in 2011. To funny, woke up and said oh look honey, we can get out thru the back door, lol. My niece lives in PA,  she's making the best of it getting in and out thru the window. Kids loving it jumping out into snow drifts, laugh in all the way.
Hit the cabin yesterday. Have mercy, I needed a dose of just that.  Sunny, brisk, beautiful day.  Played with Lira, made a right proper fire.   Friends and their new pup came down and stayed.  Brutus is a Shepard baby.  He's trying to be a dominant young man but still riding on the short bus of puppy dumb,he has a few things to learn.  Lira put up with it until he showed the usual pupdumb.  Then she lit and Brutus hid between my friends ankles.  Kinda with that hide me Mom look, lolol.
The river is frozen on the high side.   Its open at the creek mouth but only where the channel runs quick.  Broken chunks and shards of ice every where.  I looked for critter tracks, sometimes you can see coyote, deer tracks.  None of that, sure sign of don't go out there.   So we took up anything the ice out might, put it all on high ground.  I feel bad if our lawn jockey doesn't make it,   it will take a lot of river flooding ice to get to it but still,  I like our lil guy.   Had dinner with them at our fav place.   Very good actually.  Then back to camp, got our attic gear on and hung by the fire.
Didn't hear any coyote sounds, no critters of any kind were making any noise.  Beautiful ful moon, stars for ever.  A glass of red, laughin , giggling and solving the problems of the world.
I did see the red tails doing their cruise by.  2 juvie eagles tree top level going up river.
That was cool. Himself saw an adult eagle, drats I missed it while chuck in wood in the fire.  Is ok, next time.  Once ice out comes, we will see more of that.
Ice out will come this week, rain tomorrow and temps above 35 reaching to 40. That bad boy is going to go.

Oh, I had a deal on a matching-color front clip that was too sweet to turn down, so I drove it five more years...until the 4-on-the-floor transmission stick went loopy and I could move it around without getting it into first gear. Wasn't worth a new transmission, so I sold it for parts.

But after owning VW Beetles for years the Colt WAS a nice car. Mitsubishi built the car with a real working heater. You have no idea what a pleasant change it was, not having to scrape the INSIDE of the windshield before getting on the road.

Things...have been a little off the charts.  I am learning about family and greed.  I am learning I have one true family and that's my brother. Soon it will be over, well after I find a new attorney, because mine died and I wasn't informed of his inability due to his sudden illness and death until after the fact.
It's a pretty day.    The river is flowing nicely.  The holiday parties are over.  It was crazy here.  Had a royal storm roll thru night before last.  The tent people made it ok.
Getting ready to pull off a  Mardi gras party here at camp.  People are getting their masks ready and talking food, lol.   That's the 11th.  That evening, at a local bar, Himself and I have got to slip away and go see a blues guy by the name of Michael Charles.  He is going to play for our august party.  Hails from Australia.  So I'll go in my full Mardi gras gear.  He has some really interesting you tube videos.   My only fear is around here, it's pretty hard core country.    That and how to slip out of here.
Hear 1 set and slip back. Hmmmmm

Of a Tuesday......currently we are probably going to get a bit of a thunderstorm.  I can hear it mumbling and grumbling.  I hope  it's a good one. I could go for a good thundersmacker.
Got the lawns all mowed and weed wacked and cleaned up.  Then I looked at my car. Then I cleaned that inside and out. Sure does look pretty.  Showroom pretty. Uh huh. Then I looked at diva Princess Lira.  Yep, she got her pretty on.  Sprayer on the faucet, she came right over the edge of the tube.  Blew her dry and combed her out.  She loves it.
Now I'm looking at the house... get to do that next.
Hope you all had a nice weekend.... today is back to it.

The river has yet to go down enough for us to see if the 40 to 60 ft trees complete with root system moved.  If not, and we can't get them pulled out, no dock or boat this year for us.  It's ok, just one of those things ya deal with on the river.
Friday was nice.  Rolled in bout 6 pm.  Got all set and settled.Friends started coming in, we just hung out under the cabin.   Then Himself and I went to dinner and came back to an evening boat ride.  The same friends had just left our place, noticed we came back and promptly came back.  Stars were like diamonds in the sky.  I always watch the sky, you never know what you will see. Perfect ending to a week.
Yesterday was bottle crafting day.  Mardi Gras party next weekend.  So my friend and I are refurbish wine bottles for table centerpieces on the tables.  Last weekend spray paint, this weekend all decorated with beads, sparkly thing and the mindset to use them for the Christmas in July party.  Perfect project for a day of off n on gully washers.  Lira played with her new friend Brutus the 6 month old Shepard.  Another perfect day, crafting, lunching, laughing, giggling, even Himself was giggling with and at us lol.
After dinner, I learned a new drink.  It's called a Moscow Mule.  Now I haven't had a serious drink in many many months, but oh mylanta those bad boys are good!   The friends gathered and we hung out, music going and cutting up.
Today,  quick shower, a Lira walk, then my ladies are coming and we are headed to the auction house. A treasure trove of anything you can think of.  I missed a true Tiffany lamp for 75$ by 10 paces.  This day they put out all from the many estate sales, priced to sell up to half off.
I do hope you had a lovely weekend and a good week.
Off n out!

Ofa Friday...
Pulled muscle is much better.  Its going to be hot and humid today.  Marci Gras camp party tomorrow.  Almost ready, just have to get fake flowers for some bottles I decorated up.  I quick coat of clear sealer when I get to the river.  Ah ha!, I will keep 1 bottle for I discovered a solar light will fit in it thus turning it into a table lamp for the darkness.
Meanwhile I am getting pics of a water line break.  It just so happens to be in the right half of my cabin drive.   They are fixing it as I type.  Tents going up today, my gal pal and I will decorate said tent before it gets obnoxiously hot.  The people should start to come bout 4:30. Then it's on! Plus the Michael Charles blues hall of fame to go see before he shuts down at 11 pm. I got no clue how I am gonna pull that off lol.
So have a great weekend.   Hmmmmm, wonder if I'll have a right side drive or if getting out of the truck will be a leap, hmmmmm

Oh well...best get to it.... Lots to do..

Sympathies on the pulled muscle. I was in the ER yesterday after tearing my bicep muscle. Lovely bruises on my arm, and a reverse-Popeye look with the bicep now two times larger. (I'd have said three but then a spinach reference is required).

For blogging, you'll need to master the uploading and maintenance software for whichever company you choose. Tweaking ANY template becomes difficult without some serious experimenting. Blogger is fairly easy but also fairly bland in looks. Many other outfits are also out there.

My goodness,  I hope it gets better quickly.  I just bent over to pull a weed and then the Bush tree thing. How did you do that?
Thanks for the advice on the blog thing.  I am seriously thinking it might be an avenue to consider.  I am looking at Blogger and also WordPress.   Those to seem to be the best for the misinformed beginner. :)
And with that,  it's time to get up and moving. It's going to be one of those days.   I had to light a fire under a few last night to get the tent up, if I have to drive to get table covers,,, it's not gonna be pretty, then me ND my gal pal will be slamming up decorations before the storms come....  ugh, I so did not want to wear the RBF today....

We got to the river early.  Needed to check out that water issue.  It wasn't as bad as I thought.  Slightly soft due to all the water. But, walkable.  Had dinner after I had to get snarky.  They didn't put the tent up,  I had helpers coming up to me asking.  So I snarled.  Nicely, of course.  Good grief,  decorating a 40 x 60, then the food tent, then all the tables in a heat advisory day would have been no fun for any of us...  It got done.  Then dinner with friends whom are having some serious issues, awkward didn't cover it, lol.
Up at stupid o'clock and we busted our backs with getting everything done.  Finished all things bout noon thirty.  Looked good.  Evil hot with a breeze so I had to run back and forth rehooking, retieing,  keeping the lil ones from snagging up the table decs lmao. We gave them all kinds to play with, they had a good time.  To the trailer for a bunch of stuff for serving.  Run sweat run Lololol.  Shower, get dressed, back check electrical outlets for crock pots, ice blow up holders had to be filled, I run up to feed Lira, check phone,,,awww carp.
Zoomed to river edge where our neighbor was fishing out a seriously drunk city it female.
She decided to jump canoe and swim up current, something about her sister.  I got one friend at the top of the dock walk trying to get her to listen, another friend on her dock trying to get this drunk city it out of the water and me ready to beeline the bank should she fall,  then I look right,  and SMH.  Here's a guy holding on to 3 tied off canoes.  He wasn't in good shape either.  Found out where he canoes from, offered up water and convinced him to stay put until I got to the landing to find out the whats what....
I get back, let him know his party was going to be transported to the other place, here comes our landing super with rope.  Guy couldn't tie a knot he was so trashed.  Here comes the short bus , which to me was fitting.  Come to discover female drunk in city it thought her sister was dead, because the other canoe rental party fished a guy out of the water after he jumped off a rock and didn't come up.  He was blue, they saved his life...
I just bout had it with stupid but canoes got handled, drunk cityits, got handled.  Hey ho time for party face, the people are coming in.
Excellent foods. Crawfish boils, gumbos, jumbulia, dirty rices, to to much. Cajun music, laughing sweating more laughing.  Big fun!
It broke up due to to much time for all of us in the heat.  Worked out good, as the blues guy was playing and we could catch the last set.
Glad we did.  This guy is good!!!!  Really good.
That closed the night.
Yesterday finish tearing the party down.   After that....none of us wanted to do a thing. Many compliments, lots of please do this again next year.... Good gracious it was a good one.
With that, I must go grocery shopping and. Get my work done.
Chalk this one to one seriously scrappy weekend...

Shhhh, it's a very quiet weekend. Hot humid but quiet.
Even princess diva Lira has chosen to spend her time in the ac lol. Smart dog.
I decided it's time to gather, so I checked the black raspberry patch here aND they should pop next week. Then I went to a local u pick Farm around here.  Good thing I did, they have 1 tart cherry tree left.  It's really to bad I had a skirt on, I would have climbed that bad boy
But I managed 2 lbs of cherries and that will be enough for a round of jam.  I got 1 lb of blueberries, to which I will freeze up, then go back next weekend and add to it.  It was nice being out amount the orchards all by myself.  It's nice just to be out hearing nothing but what's around.  The horses across the way we're having conversations,  birds singing, the rustle of unknown critters in the bush line.  Peaceful it was. Lol, when I got in, the nice woman told me they had checked on me to make sure I was ok.  I told her no worries here, that I was rather used to being it in it.
Talked of putting things up and all that.  She just learned 3 years ago.  I smiled.
Back to the cabin where the river had a bit of action this week.  It rose 7', then dropped like a rock.  There is a rather huge tree limb sticking out by the sandbar.  It's a fat one.  It will be interesting to see if the 2 blocking us are gone.  I hope so.
Happy cityits were baking nicely as they canoed by.  One group of men were , oh, drunk or proud, but mostly not impressive.   Lol, I heard a yell of , so ya think I'might a girl!!! I look and there was this grey hair guy resembling Santa Claus in stance,  trunks dropped to his knees arms fully stretched to the sky. Good golly, talk about having the eyeballs burned.
Just another story in the continuing chapter of tales from the bank side.
Today is Father's Day.  Lira and I got Himself a cherry pie.   Lolol, sounds stupid I know, but he loves cherry pie.  I am going to go to my favorite store, then come back.  He will have a do as you please kind of day with exactly as he pleases.  It's all about him!
And with that, I will have another cup of coffee, walk the diva Princess and continue to continue.
:)

Break time.  Been out since bout 7.  Put in the new walk liners in the main garden.  Little less then 29'.  Supposed to get some storms, so I'll run the tiller flatten it out then let the rain settle it.  That will work,  I have time for planting,  but this year, root and cold crop.  Yea,  I have the little gardens full of tomatoes n onions n green beans and cuss.  Lots of time for broccoli, brussel sprouts, carrots, n peas.
Breaks over,,
What cha doing today......

Finished planting a bit ago.  Its all in.  Yesterday and today I got in broccoli, brussel sprouts, carrots, peas, radish, jalapenos, sweet bell peppers , lettuce and plopped marigolds in for the skeeters.  Yanked weeds in the other beds and dealt with training cuss to climb,  discovered cut worm sign in my green beans.  Slapped some basil and parsley in.  Now I can rest, well sort of.
Big storms are coming.  They don't sound like fun at all.  But maybe I can get some good storm shots.
Well off to the store.  Dang ran out of coffee lmao.
Have a good day...

My boy that just got his first house, he used 5 gal. buckets for his garden for years.  Having room for a garden was a top priory for picking out a hours.   Now that he has his own place he has put in 6 large raised beds.  He is now putting in a watering system for the lawn and raised beds. The raised beds have been in for two months now.  So he is putting in a system that he can control by phone or timer, as living on the West side of the state they get a lot of rainey days.

Got a bit dicey last night around here.
The domicile lucked out and landed between the monster storms.  The cabin was smack dab in the middle of some pretty hefty supercell that spawned tornados a town away in 1 direction and nasty hail in another.  But it's good. Now river watch starts.  Sure hope it stays in the bank.

So far the river is good.   I don't think it will go over its banks.  Might get close.
I got rid of the prius today.  Lease was over.  No more of that noise.  The car was a great runner but it's not the car for me.   So I got a 2015 camry le.  Rides a whole heck of a lot better. Quieter, more room and it has a real trunk.  Road noise is almost not there.
Good music sound to. For me it's a much, better choice.

Of a Sunday. Skies are clearing from their clouds of rain.. still a mix of grey to white blocking blue, but none the less, they are clearing.   Squirrel on the feeder, hummers coming in and out .  Bout 6 geese were here cleaning up the dropped seed from the bird feeders. Typical morning.  Might take a bath in bug spray n go fetch some black raspberry. I don't know yet.  They are just starting to come in, next weekend might be better.
I have to do more wine bottles up for Christmas in July.  I spray paint them then glue some decorations of the sparkly variety, then , hit em with clear coat.  Slap some flowers in the top and a centerpiece is born.  Now the beauty part is I discovered those cheap solar lights at Walmart,  well they fit perfectly into the top.  Hence an outdoor table light.   Just enough light to use but not enough to attract bugs.
Call of the day, 50/50 rain, with a 100% chance of step n sweat.
Fun stuff lol.

I see your having a R/C/Weekend.

We just got over 2 days of 20 to 30 mph winds yesterday was only 81º but it is coming up.  Monday through Friday it calling for 100º then dropping off to the mid high 90º.

We have dropped down form 30lbs of bird feed a month from this winter to just under 10lbs a month.   Seeing more yellow Wild Canaries and wild Bunny Rabbits this year.  There more Bunny Rabbits then Jack Rabbits coming around this year.  They do like the green grass.

They say "if the corn growing in the fields is knee high by the 4th of July, the farmers are going to have a good year."   Most of the corn around me is now 5' tall and rising.  The second cutting of Alafia is being done for those that cut it 4 times a year.  Looks lake there well be a more two crop fields this year then last year.

Yes, it was a do nothing kind of weekend.  We are doing well with the feed ourselves.  I think the babies are all out of the nests now so it should be normal.  Hummers are hitting like crazy but the Orioles have slowed.  We do everything we can to keep the gold finches, they eat skeeters lol.
I ended up pitting 5 1/2 cups of tart cherries,  then went out and got the first round of black raspberries.  I will have to go out early next Saturday before the campers come.  It won't be a problem collecting mass quantity.
A/c will go off tomorrow. No more 90 degree step n sweat to deal with...
Well must go check the gardens , do some watering, run an errand, mow and get some work done...
Busy week, busy busy week.

Happy 4th!   I am sitting here, with my coffex. Pretty much just looking at it.
Had a nice weekend.  I can't say it was quiet lol.  Been listening to all varieties of fireworks for 2 days.  We hitched a ride with friends Saturday and watched the fireworks at skydive.  Started with divers in glowing gear Falling from the sky with plumes of white.  Ended with a royal show for a long while all to the music of Pink Floyd from the pontoon.  Afterwards, we all came here, made fire and hung out. Yesterday was usual day.  On the chilly side for sure.  Lira and I had to weave thru the many tents of camping canoers.   I was told there was 200 of them. 200 canoes, 2 people per canoe, that's about 400 people camping.  We don't leave with that many. Last night , well all day yesterday I experienced my first static issue.  Why, who knows, but it wasn't fun. I slow cooked ribs in the crock because Himself wanted to do as little as possible. No big deal, he needs a break. Seemed a good idea. Until I tried to pick the small crock up.
Never have I felt such you're going to throw up pain in my whole life.  Mid back down my right leg wth is this spastic nonrelenting grip of your going down pain.
Ugh, he helped me move. He helped me because I couldn't.  I must admit, I took a Norco.   Ice n,heat, it took a few hours.  The fireworks were going off, me n Lira stayed up here.  I fell asleep but woke up when he came in, bout I don't know.  But I could stand up . Without assistance. This morning I woke up with massive headache, stomach jacked big.  Then proceeded to heave my guts.  Guess who isn't eating another norco. Ever.
Think I'll get a move on.  Slowly but surely...
Have a nice 4th.
So it goes another banner weekend. Lol

I am mowing ever third day yet.  It takes about 2 hrs. on a John Deere lawn tractor with a 48 cut.  Watering the yard and flowers in all areas  for 1 hr. each everyday.  My water pressure is running at 60 psi when watering.  That's great for a 500' well.

All quiet here.  Fog has blanketed the area.  Birds are singing and doing their thing.  I hope to get out and see if there are any good pics to take while walking Lira.
It's also that weekend here at the river.  Christmas in July.  Last night we put up the 40 x 60' tent.  Got the tent on the flatbed we use for the band.  Umm, then it rained. Lol. No,rain today though.  After I walk my diva Princess, it will be time to seriously decorate for the party.  We are going to have a good crowd, the Temps will be perfect.  Won't be suprised if we go over 150.
Guess I better get to it... I need to run to town n see about a few additions to my Christmas costume. Oh n get some dog foods. Lol

Lord love a duck it's horrid outside at the river.  Just pulled the camper up and out.  Storms are coming and the river is high and screaming.
It's going to be a fun night.  Massive storms for northern Illinois.   Got the a.c. set to meat locker just in case we lose power, neighbors are gonna bang on the door if we need to help pull their camper in the night.  Then fingers crossed it doesn't go bug nuts, cuz we gotta pull our other  neighbors to.

Anything can happen lol. I could wake up and be an island...... or......not.

Nice 86º day but have some 100+ day coming up.  Had a day calling 115º but that will not happen now.

They pump the septic tank today.  First unit had 700+ lbs. of tree roots in it, unit 2 had 500+ lbs of roots and unit 3 there was no problem.  All the tree roots come into the yard as that is the only place there water 9 months out of the year.  They say it has not been pump out on over 20 years.

I call my neighbor to see who would do it this far out.  He said do not call anyone that the boys would be over with a pumper and clean it out in the afternoon.  They open the first 2 units up and all they could see is roots.  They got the backhoe and some cable from the shop and had it cleaned out in no time at all, and pump both tanks dry.  They put a  commercial in both to stop roots from growing in them again and eat what was left.  Not bad for a half rack of beer.

Very nice!  You lucked out.  We had ours done last year at the river.  Put all new everything. Pretty much had to since it had been in for over 40 years.
I have an incredible light show going on and massive amounts of rain.  Its going to e interesting waking up in the morning. Low road is flooded completely all the way to the landing. River is fluxing down.  Not by much.   Pulled the camper and I think Himself was glad.  Key words like flooded low road, mud and of course.... :cursing: I will lose it if that camper gets trashed...helped....
Well, with that I should take his phone to him... It could he work.  We are getting nailed but good... Might be an island tomorrow... Rolling the dice.....

Can successfully say we are not an island! According to NOAA predictions so far, we won't be an island.  This is good. The storms beat us up night before last.  Big huge thunder smackers came in 3 waves.2 before midnight and one about 330 am.  Had about 2" of rainfall where we sit the camper and the road was totally flooded into the green from our drive about 3/4 down.  The river jumped about 3.5' over night, coming into low spots and making itself known that Saturday was going to be seriously dicey. Me on the tablet posting predictions from NOAA, people starting to things ready.  Moving things, securing heavy items with rope, chains whatever.   Watching the river for debris and screams of one word... Incoming began.  Massive deadfall trees flying down a swift racing river, some live, some half. All sizes parts pieces whole 30 to 40'. Some maybe 4 to 10'.  Barely missing pontoons and docks. That was craziness. People running to their docks shoving with long wood these floating debris off and away. I took Lira for her walk and checked out the creek, our landing.  Slowly it rose.  Get her back in and out I went. Helped a guy by himself connect to his pop up, He couldn't tell distance, so I told him I would back it he could direct it and we would get it done. We did. Helped best I could to move stuff with one neighbor. She was by herself her people hadn't come yet from 2 hrs away. Water in the green was knee deep, but we got it. Best we could. Our friend comes up yelling for me to get Himself he needed help. Loaded with stuff to help I told him he was up go get him. At the time I was knee deep in water getting stuff to higher ground in the green water lol.  Time later, I head to his place where our pontoon was docked. Oh chit! A massive tree hit the dock busted the plank connect on one side. He, Himself and I had to pull plank, dock and pontoon to the bank and secure it.  By this time, don't ask me how much time, we were all in go mode lol. The whole camp looked like little ants watching for incoming, taking campers up and out. Its inching slowly, which is good, very good. Creek was rising, all of us were getting crinky about that.  Its the only way in and out.  Still good, we had bout 9" before out wasn't an option, lol. Check NOAA. Didn't look good, I could smell island time. But hey if the power held, no big deal.  Got Lira's life jacket out in case I had to float her , she swims with her front legs only. What can I say, she's a bit different. But that was ready. This went on all day long.  Now e wait for the creek to blow.  The river backs the creek from flowing. When the river goes down enough all that back up blows, kinda like a double whammy of sorts. Roll the dice, we never know how that ends up until it goes.
One dock with a pontoon remains out there.  The guy refused.
Besides the foliage flying down, somebody John boat connected to a tree went by, so also did what appeared to be a dock, we think.  But the fun part of it all was seeing the water birds.  Had a beautiful crane who hung out for the longest time at our bank. Baby wood ducks , n of course geese.  That was good.  Poor things needed a break.
Today, predictions have changed, for the better.   Lets see if that holds. Road n green still flooded, river still racing and on land.
With that, I am going to take my pup for a walk.....
I wonder whats going to come down River today,   its definitely a flushing event.

Sounds like mother nature is having it way.  Hope the power stays on MeLady.  Sounds like you and himself will have a full day.

That's an understatement.  Himself is bringing the generator home tomorrow.
As luck would have it,  Home got hitch slapped massive fugly storm.  So as it stands, I have no landline, no power. 2 houses to my left the pole snapped in half. The house next to it, had a 60' tree get uprooted.
Solar lights for this evening and go fetch dinner. But! Ah ha! No current burns anywhere and a squad of WW2. Fighter jets did a my over, that was awesome!

Oh well,,, it's those silly things like campfire coffee pots, non electric kitchen tools.  Keep em, use em. Oh and coffee carafe to.
Well off to start my at...conserving power til the generator gets here.

Power, phone lines came back on about730 last night.  The clean up crews have been up the block with end loaders filling up trucks with debris. I am impressed with the electrical crews, they came from far and wide. As far as New Hampshire, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, on my block alone.
So business as usual today, gardens to deal with, lawns to deal with, sculkery stuff and work.
Have an awesome day!

Got in last night.  The river is down about 4'. Very nice.
Started pulling stuff down to ground level. Out to dinner at our fav lil place nestled in the fields. Just us, it was nice.
I just hung around up here.  Started  a knitting project,  I also brought an embroidery piece I would like to finish.
It will be a quiet weekend.  Grocery run, finish putting it all back to normal,  he will figure out why the electric lift on the camper won't work with a full battery, Lira and I will do what we do.....and depending on how I feel depends on which needle I pick up lol.
Have a great day!

Elf, just a tip. We have thousands of readers, and not one of them, aside from Walks, has a clue what you're talking about.
It's for this reason I seldom read what you write because only a neighbor would understand the relevance.

Maybe if you posted some pics, people could at least have some semblance towards disseminating your posts?
Not just close up shots of creekside, you need to post pics for comparative analysis, high and low water.

I say this for everyone that writes here. You all need to be aware that not everyone knows your world.
Always assume, that you're writing to a new audience every time you post.

Gardens are starting to come in.  If I can get to it today. I'll yank the done green beans , prep that section for a cold loving veg.  Mow between rain or just do it tomorrow. After breakfast with Himself's Mom I'll be snapping beans.  Gonna do corn this weekend at the river. Why not, I am pretty tired of crafting. Well not tired of, just need a change.
Gotta get some work done to.  I am tired of looking at my area, it needs a spruce up, been a few years with the same look.
So have a great day.  Me, I am going to cringe at the thought of that workplace implanting their employees. Ewwww

This day I wake up at home.   No river this weekend.  I have to get caught up around here.Himself is a bit under the weather, so we are home.  So I'll be in the gardens, I have to stake the tomatoe cages so they stand up.  Yank the spent green beans , plant something in that spot that likes fall.  Tomorrow there a reenactment of all things done circa 1700's.  I may go see that. I also have to put up the last of the green beans and learn corn.  So much to do.  The list is full, its one of those weekends where it's a dice roll on if you can actually get it all done Lolol.
I hope your weekend is fun!

Skies are that lovely shade of it's going to rain.  In a bit I'll go out and plant some seeds in the green bean space.   I can say I got most of those aggrevaiting things down.  You know the ones, the oh I really should  do that but.... don't.  They remind me of little no seeums, always buzzin just close enough, ya can't get em until you make an effort. Lol.
Ours neighbors had a rather large party last night.  The back yard was outfitted with a tent that covered half the yard and a bounce house. Everyone showed in their best. The little ones dress shirts and slacks, dresses and dress shoes. Cute as buttons they were. Spanish music, the smell of bbq, laughing, kids screaming with all the fun.   Hide n seek was the game.  Thru me until I figured it out. I got a bit stealthy when I saw a body run to the side of my house, Lolol. No I didn't tell and wasn't seen either.  Quietly giggling as this kid was trying not to be caught, lol.  Although everything in me wanted to sneak up from behind n say , tag you're it, I didn't. Lol.  I went to sleep bout midnight with the music blaring.  The adults decided to do karaoke at bout 1:30 am.  Yikes,  sounded atrocious lol. Pack of cats stuck in a thunderstorm Lolol. But they were having a lot of fun. To bad I don't understand Spanish, might have appreciated it more.
Our pontoon had a nice time last night.  It took some people to watch fireworks on the river.  And Thats ok.
Well, guess I'l go out back and do some things.  Its quiet now, with the rainy looking clouds over head, the birds out doing what they do, a hot cuppa. My seed packs.   Sounds like a good way to start a day.
Have a perfect God's day, its one of my favorites.

It's a beauty of a morning on the river.  We have our granddaughter and some of her crew here, they are going to float the river.  True city girls lol. 1 thought it was creepy lolol.  I guess in the night it might appear so.  But the coyotes weren't singing.
So I am waiting to see of they or part of want to go get silly things like water shoes, a cooler to keep their drinks and food good while on the river... small things like that, lol.
I'll be back later...lolol, thus should be funny!

Happy Friday in my land. Busier then a cat covering crap these days.  But the yard are mowed, trimmed up and the neighbors bushes on my driveway side are shaved rather nicely.  Been canning up the garden.  He wants to go to the cabin.  I must can. Ha! He just came thru and I have the pressure canned, water bath pot, salsa making pot, 3 cases of jars, my salt, fresh picked produce all ready all over the kitchen.  He said, all that goes? I said oh, not really I have to get 2 more cases of jars,  plus the groceries for the weekend and my craft stuff. I'll just do simple crafts while it's all processing. Might be a good time to learn the wood burner. I digress,   when we leave back home I should have done up corn, stewed tomatoes and salsa.
Does anyone else here can?  If so I sure would like to hear what you can up.  Would hate to think I am the only one.  Anyone play with wood burners? Sure could use some tips lol.
In any case, have a great weekend.  If you're in the path of that hurricane, good golly be safe.  That thing is going to be beastly scarey.

I would can, but Toy planted a garden, and oddly enough, everything I wanted this year mysteriously died. :sneaky:
So all we have are tiny tomatoes and enough squash to feed an army.
Hell, maybe I can hire you to come and plant a garden, trim the fire ladders up the Fir trees, maybe make a couple of 5 gallon buckets of Salsa.
We gots plenty a wood tuh burn, I'm certain we can figure sumpin out.
Upside, no hurricanes, just your occasional forest fire, earthquake, mountain lion or bear, oh, and heat, dry heat, but heat, none the less.

I spent the last 3 weeks putting the campsite back together after more than a 100" of rain, so the campsite suffered greatly when the creek chose a shortcut to my other creek, via, straight through the campsite, even dug out a spring and turned it into a good size pond.
Getting heat and air installed next week, so we'll have an escape from the heat finally and heat for the winter instead of relying on the wood stove for the last 30 years.

Too busy, so the helipad will have to wait.

Oooo I get ta  use a chain saw! :woot: heck Yea!
That would be fun!
Sorry about the garden, that just sucks.  I have a pretty good one this year.  The lady at the corn stand was shocked I was starting the tomatoes, she said all she's hearing is they are turning yet.  I have bout 2 large laundry baskets full to put up and probably more still on the vines.  That doesn't even count the carrots, onions, jalapenos,  green peppers and kitchen herbs I still have yet to dry.  I'll be insane with it.
We have the cougar back in the area this year, coyotes are getting really bold coming into our river. Strange scat is in our little yard.  I think it's coyote or fox, not big enough for the big cat. Bears nope.
Well you get that copter pad going and I'll consider it lol. Lewis University has a landing pad, it's not far lol.
Congrats on the ac/heat!!! You guts had to be miserable.  That's not fun.
Well off I go, time to pack it up and transport to the cabin.  Fun stuff!

There's a slight breeze moving the leaves just a bit. A goldfinch and morning dove are sharing the whistle feeder and I just got a rate right of a hummingbird snatching up a bug in flight.

Hot cup of tea while I watched the full fog dissipate into low tendrils sashaing on the river.  Fall is here with it's coming undecided day time temperatures and that's ok.  One of our friends here at the river picked about 20 lbs of pears and brought  them to me. Lol, he said here, we will have a lot this year.  I giggled and said yep, we will.  I will do them at home and bring them back.  That way, he can not be brow heated into giving them away, but can give them to whom he wants.
I got a new craft to play with. Bought a wood burner.  Can not WAIT to get started.  I have some small totes to do to, it's a craft weekend.
I should go to the store and get back fast.
This Labor Day weekend for us will be quiet.  Not much planned at all.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Decent weekend.  Got that wood burning tool going.  Ok, 2 spoons need to go in the outdoor, but the cutting board came out very well. I'm ready for next stage.
But my brain is with this beastly hurricane Irma.  Family on the east coast of Florida, family on the west coast.  Its tiring.  I have been working with 2 brothers and we are setting up minimum 2 week prep in are they order evac, there the "possibility" of roads clogging up , ugh it's a hot mess.  But, I think they will be ok In any situation. Bug out ready, tents ready, canoe ready. I am of course going bug nuts.  But I know what I gotta do.

This hurricane is gonna make me nuts.  But, we got this.  Back checking with 3 brothers and making sure they have what they need, where they go and who's going where. Check list, checked...rechecked....back checked.  Now we wait and watch.  Either way initial landfall is going to be brutal for 2.  But both are very skilled, and very smart in South Florida.   Shelter is very close.   Time to roll the dice....and wait...

Good morning from the river.  In a few I will walk my diva princess pup o she can suvey her territory. But for now, its coffee time.  First off he Florida hurricane.  All 3 brothers made it thru with zero damage. The eye went just west of Port Charlotte brother, he is rather lucky.  It was a cat 2 by then.  Not  problem did he ave, didn't even lose power.  My Aunt in Jacksonville, well her condo building got swamped.  The bulkhead busted creating flooding in her buildings garage and first floor.  She is above that.   It is a good thing she is in N.C. now. So that's that.  What a ht mess that was, doesn't make me want to run to Florida and live though.
Other then that, its been ok. Spent 2 days trying to get permits in Chicago.   And that's all I have to say about that. Can't say nuffin nice, don't say anything kinda deal.
Then theres that Equifax breach.  :cursing: and of course me my I got affected.  :cursing: :cursing: :cursing:.  I am in the process of reporting freezing and getting the I.D. theft wall up best I can do.  That wall will be in place for the rest of my life they have said.   Have mercy adulting is not for sissy.
But it's a new day, I have some wood burning to do, some pears to put up and some beading to get done.
The river is quiet now. Oh himself better rise and shine soon. We have a little nuthatch bird whom isn't very happy at the bird feeder.
So the day begins...

Busy busy busy I have been.  It's canning season, I have put up massive quantity and I only have my jams left to do.  Dealt with a minor flood last weekend. Kissed the axles on the camper. Not so much fun. Mornings ate spent with my mother in law.  I do her breakfast and meds.  On Friday's I take her to her hair appointment. Leaving in 20 minutes.  I can't wait til things slow down..  I am stretched a bit to far...

Dawn has just cracked open..coffee is on, my pup is resting at my feet.  We have no breeze just yet.  That's ok.  I should open the blinds and see what last week's water event did.  I know we got about a foot of water.
I have to make soup to pass for a gathering tonight.  I think there will be 5 of us bringing a crock pot each. Could be more.
Was told last night it's dock day.  So that's removal of4 or 5 docks, walkways and boats.  No problem. We have this weekend and next before water gets shut off. A ceiling and wall scrub down is my job today.
I brought the beginnings of my costume here.  I am gonna jazz it up .  It's a circa 1950 style dress full of rule, I am going to glue all kinds of woodland floral on it to become an elf, lol. A good project for tomorrow's rains.  So this year no scarey stuff.

Cabin is being closed up for winter. Water goes off Nov 1.  Been dealing with that.  Sigh, I sure wish I could be in more...

Sound like you will be needing to move the camper to higher ground for the winter.   I take it Eyes is safe and dry after all the hurricane to date.

We did that last week, good thing to.
Eyes did very well.  No damage at all and didn't lose power.   All good for him.

Was thinking he has traveled all over the U.S. and most parts of the world.  Then to buy a house in a hurricane state.  But what the hell I live in a state with volcanoes and earthquakes.

It's a chilly grey wet morning.  I have to build my elf headpiece for tonight's party.  It's also the last weekend for water, which means a few adjustments. Tomorrow the 55 gallon drum will be filled in the shower, all water lines and tank drained, 100 cup coffee pot positioned by the sink and converting to paper and plastic. No big deal.
But for now it's quiet, everyone is asleep still, even my pup.

I have been a crafty kinda gal as you know.  Currently I am doing wood burning.  I really really like this.  Hopefully I can get enough done to do a table.  I am into my second year of it.  I have sold a few pieces to friends. They really like my work and think I should seriously sell them. I will but it will take time to do enough for a show.
I will try to post some pics. Lord knows it's been a minute or to since I have been in lol.
I have the day off so, house duties are in order, then I will try and finish my current burn.
Whatcha doing this lovely Sunday?

Happy Monday.   Should be raining pretty good when I go to work.  Ha, it's raining now lol.  In a few I will give my pup her meds, make lunch, figure out what to eat at work.  Go to work, second shifter here. Driving a fork lift. Riding the steel horse, kinda fun actually. 9 hours a day and 6to8 on Saturday.  People aren't to bad, I figure to learn Spanish soon. It will come in handy as I move up.
But that's here nor there.   Not real sure how this massive change is going to go, but I am ready for the adventure.

It's been a ride I must admit.  I take a lot of chocolate.  I'm still having trouble sometimes remembering my station now.  At times it's very difficult to keep my mouth shut.  Instance,,, vp of logistics announces how they were going to combine both warehouses into 1.  By the way, into the smaller building.  Ummm ok, how do you plan on putting a Chuck full close to million sq ft into an overstuffed 800 thousand sq ft building in 3 months?   I was told I wouldn't understand, needless to say the dude is gone now.
And we are all still wondering....
It's great not having to deal with that crud. It has its advantages to be able to be just a worker.

Good morning, I hope all is well in your world.  I have the day off. So I will do a bunch of cleaning.  Been working a lot of overtime. Doesn't bother me one bit.
I have to watch an instruction vid on active shooters in any situation, be it work or outside of work.  Then they are going to set up a teaching with the police.  I feel it very disheartening but realize it's probably for the best.
People are so full of hate these days, one never knows.
I am also learning that it's a good thing I pretty much work alone driving my fork lift. It's perfect for my days. I am seeing and learning about people.  I've learned, and am adjusting to the other side of the fence.
Himself is at the river.  A good place for him to be. ISince he quitired..... he should spend most of his time there.
Well, that's it for today.  I have to get cracking on this house.
Have a great day.

It will be very bored this Winter if he has nothing to take it place.  I am happy you are enjoying your work now.  One can learn a lot from the other side if your on the side lines and not in the middle.  Overtime is always nice to have, it helps with the playtime in life and the unexpected.

To say the least it most certainly went off the rails.  I work as an order expiditor now, second shift. Killer hours during busy months. Had to do what I had to do. Happy was catch 22.  Lost my husband May 8, he suffered the Widowmaker in the backyard. From the paramedics to the ER Dr saying I did everything right, there was nothing anyone could have done.
So when these days stop being a really bad horror movie with the absolute worst country western sound track ever heard,,,,I'll be fine.

Elfie and I go back sometime over the years of being on boards.

She is a very strong woman in many ways and I am very proud to know her over the years.  She has family and many friends.
