I grew up with fish sticks and fish filets from the likes of Mrs. Paul's and Gorton's, but everything they offered was designed to be baked in an oven. Their offerings have improved remarkably over the years, but until recently, baking was it. That's a real crappy deal when you live by yourself, or when it's just you and one other. Most of these offerings had to be baked at 400-450 degrees for at least a half hour, sometimes 45 minutes. My oven burns propane, and firing up a full-sized oven at that sort of temp for that long costs a LOT of money these days!

I've been thinking about buying a decent countertop "toaster-oven" deal to get some fish on my dinner plate at a reasonable cost. That way, I could enjoy some fish without busting my per-meal budget.

But Gorton's finally did the RIGHT thing! Feast your eyes!

The secret to preparing this mouth-watering fish is to FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!!! They say cook at low/medium heat, and they're NOT kidding!

I love it! The fish is incredibly tasty and tender and the breading and seasonings are just wonderful! Plus, I'm done cooking in almost half the time, and I didn't burn an ovenful of propane to get it done. I can prepare just one or two filets in a frying pan with a little oil in 20 minutes or less, instead of firing up the oven for 30-45 minutes.

Glad you posted this, I too am a fish lover and have a filet every morning, that is, after Toy bakes about a dozen [pieces in the oven, and that's a bitch in the summer months.
So this is really quite the answer to those of us unwilling to preheat the house to 100 deg at 5:00 AM.

Doesn't work as well as the oven does, Toy uses it in the summer, but the fish tends to be a bit tough around the edges.

I use a pie tin and use the indirect heating method.   I do trout and salmon this way.

I also cook steaks right out of the freezer.   Ribeye, T bone and Porterhouse.

I bought Toy a gas convection oven, there's no comparison in the outcome.
You may have a better BBQ than the one Toy uses, because it's impossible to get the exact temp required to hold for 45 minutes when cooking 24 pieces of fish all at once.

I would say so, as I BBQ the year around.  Even it there a foot of snow on the ground.
