I've been wanting to get a laptop but don't want to break the bank. I hear these are a good deal but worry about their day-to-day practicalities...

Have any of you used one? Any things you miss from using a regular computer?

No I have not.  I only buy high end top computers, you get what you pay for.

In buying a new computer, just remember a lot of old programs will not run on new computers.  You can spend up to 1000$ for good up dated programs if your going to stay on top of thing.

But then if I don't spend money on computers I spend money on my wife and grandkids.

I'll throw in the old "depending what you use it for" but have laptops come a long way. Price is way down and quality is way up from the first one I bought for my wife. My personal needs are common ones, surf the web, email, pictures, you tube, nothing major. It is real easy to overbuy with those needs just to get what I don't need. Whatever you get, you'll like it.  You didn't ask but, alot of the newer ones have less memory. I use memory sticks for extra, I have not had luck with outside memory drives (don't know if that is the right word). You will get others to let you know if there are better ways to store more memory. Anyway while time allows surf the web to see what is out there.

I have a Chrome book  at home.  I've used it for about 6 years.  I use it for shopping, research, and reading.  Graphics are a bit sketchy and sound is weak, so I never use it for videos or music.
200 bucks at Wally World and it has been worth that much, and then some.

Yeah, my daughter also uses Memory Cards even though she has an External Hard Drive.  Seems efficient and thrifty, too.

Just imagine if all people could afford would be akin to a Volkswagen, Volks Computer, stripped down, only able to access govt approved websites.
I guarantee you, that's Bernie's long range plans.
