Actually.... the military had nothing to do with it.   We were in the corporate oil business.

Ironically our son has carried the torch in the corporate oil international scene..  he is raising his family globally because he loved his own experiences growing up..... tromping around the globe.

Both he and our entire family have mixed into these adventures an element of christian mission work.  He learned that by going every week to the Cambodian Refugee incarceration center in Indonesia where we taught them English, the gospel, and helped them immigrate to refugee host nations.

As an adult he has gone into Darfur to help those people under dire circumstances and has traveled throughout African nations, Madagascar and Zanzibar..... among other places.  He has lived in Rio, Brazil and traveled throughout the SA nations....... always with a mind toward missions.

He is probably one of the most traveled young men of his age.  As I posted in an earlier thread.... he made his first solo international trek when he was just 14.  He is now 34..... and a chemical engineer.

Yes, ...... the tales are endless in our family.

But ....

Sorry for the mix-up. Corn-fused you with someone else.

I do appreciate your words of encouragement, quiller.

I am really not convinced that anyone would be interested in buying a book of my life adventures.  Too many people today live similar lives.  We have become global citizens and almost everyone I know has traveled fairly extensively.   They just haven't had the same adventurous spirit as our family.  We have pushed the envelope many times.

I used to say that I would go anywhere in the world by myself.  But the world has changed a lot in my lifetime and I would no longer make that claim.

I am just grateful to have been blessed with a life that has allowed me to know and understand much of the world.

If not a book, then short articles. Take a look at Readers Digest's offerings, for example.

Go back and copy your post. It's 75% ready, as-is. More a case of organizing, and writing a good opening and leave-ya-feelin'-good closing. In-country photo of the pooch might help convince them to run it separately and not in one of their "life overseas" sections or whatever they nowadays call such things. (My info is outdated: suggest you check Writers Digest at your library for their annual book edition of magazine editors and what they're buying.)

If I suggest a title, run for the hills.

Thank you quiller.  You are very kind to help me.

There are no "hills" in Saudi.  Am I missing something in that title?

How many words are in the "normal" short article?

And when you sign that movie deal, wave to me from the back of the Rolls, OK?

That was advice, not a title.

Research! Every outlet has its own lengths for stories, but the Digest folks do spell it out in every issue for potential contributors. There, the Writers Digest annual markets book comes in very handy including specific editors in charge of various departments within an overall magazine. I am half-joking about titles but full-on serious that it sounds like you have more than one story to tell, and there's nothing wrong with using material twice with different approaches for different markets. That's why the annual is something you need to know about.

Thanks again quiller.  I will look into it.
