Our cat Squeaky passed away in my lap this morning. She was diagnosed with chronic renal failure last week, and I was giving her fluids subcutaneously twice a day at home to try to help her stabilize. She rallied over the weekend, and bloodwork Monday showed improved numbers, but yesterday she didn't eat or drink anything. When I saw her this morning, I knew it wouldn't be long. My husband and I took turns holding her until she died. Here is a picture of her in her prime.

I am so sorry for your loss.  I empathize with the pain you feel today..... and for a long time to come.  We love our pets.

We lost our maltese three years ago this week and the sting is still there.

Your cat was beautiful!  May she RIP.  I shed a tear with you.

Yeah... animals usually know when they're moving-on ahead of us.  Sorry for your loss.  You'll remember her weight on your lap.  The love is real.

She was barely larger than my palm the day we got her -- and she sealed the deal by leaning out and licking the cheek of the one who was holding her. She was a licking-machine, far friendlier than most cats and absolutely phenomenal for her being a calico (which do have less friendly reputations). I've had cats since 1976 and she was, objectively, the best I ever had.

It was very nearly fourteen years, with her often either on my lap or seemingly welded to my side on my chair. Five of every six days ended with her curled by my pillow, purring into my ear as I drifted off. That's the sound I'm going to miss, along with that sandpaper tongue.

Sorry for your loss guys, I truly am. I've lost 6 of these precious family members in the last 4 years, irreplaceable, each and everyone, but we do our best to return the love, joy and devotion they give us unconditionally 10 fold.

You were blessed to share in her life, cherish the memories, you'll meet again.

Understand fully. We do senior dog rescues and losing them is to be expected. However, each one leaves a hole in your heart.

My deepest, heartfelt condolences to you. Non-cat people don't understand this kind of loss. I know this because I used to be a non-cat people, and I didn't understand this kind of loss.

I've posted about my Patches lots of times on this board. (Actually, she was ours, meaning she was part of a family that included me and the late Mrs. Tbone. Since the passing of Mrs. Tbone, Patches has become 'mine.') Her coloring is SO much like your cat's! (Of course, the coloring is proof of the breed's non-breed status, being a melding of the blood of just about every cat in the neighborhood.) I have said so many times that I wouldn't take a million bucks for Patches, nor would I give a nickel for another cat like her. That's not quite true, but it's close.

There is another cat in these parts that looks so much like Patches that I've mistaken one for the other at least twice. The other cat is the same size, age, build, coloring, etc. The two cats are almost certainly related, though I could never say how. There's one way to tell them apart -- every time I see that other cat, it has a mouse hanging from its jaws. That ain't my Patches! She gets her grub from those little tins that say "9 Lives" on the label.

My Patches is around 8 years old, and she's healthy and active. If I'm lucky, she'll be around for another six years, maybe seven. But no matter how long it is, I will miss my little girl when she goes. I know how you feel, and you have my sympathies.
