"The House Rules"
« on: March 20, 2012, 07:06:43 AM »
This one’s for Solar, Taxed, Walkstall, and yes, you too, Humphrey.

Singer/actor Christian Kane (now on Leverage), in a hard-chargin’ country rock video -- “The House Rules.” Lyrics are priceless.

Well now I am hard of hearing in the voice range.  I need hearing aids, with all that high volume sound going on.   I could not hear the lyrices so I missed out on the priceless part of it.  Now I had no problems hearing the drums and musical instruments even with out hearing aids.  So the lyrics were lost as the musical instruments coverd his voice.

I think it's fair to summarize the lyrics as "Play hard, have fun, but learn the rules." Particularly when the ladies break out the Mardi Gras beads.

Don't tell me you're too old to not appreciate THAT thought!

I think, with all due respect to our friend, Quiller, that I'm with you, Walks. Even with hearing aids and the back ground noise kicked down, I still could not differentiate his words. I'm a 'Love Sick Blues', 'Waltz Across Texas' and 'Cattle Call' type of person. Throw in a healthy dose of Little Jimmy Pickins or The Hag and I'm happy.

Hell I invented it and live by it even today.  I may be old but not dead.

I love country and even rock, about the only thing i don't like is heavy metal.  But if someone is singing, you should be able to hear the words.  But thats just my way of thinking.

P.S.
My kids would love it!

A second listening to this video does support what you two say about indistinct lyrics. There's a technical aside to this, involving how music is mixed these days (and you no longer hear distinctly separate components, or even separate left and right audio channels). The modern music crowd does tend to go for emphasizing instruments over vocals.

So I'll offer a "pure energy" instrumental. "The House of the Rising Sun," done with Tesla coils. (Hat tip: Grouchy Old Cripple.)

I'd almost be willing to categorize this as "zap rock," except that before this it was the theramin used to create the famous theme for the "Green Hornet" radio show, back in the 1930s-1950s.

Or there's the "Big Bang" approach.....

I'm sorry, but having grown up on Big Band sounds and Dixieland Jazz, that is just noise to me. Ugh!
