This came off an N.R.A. news letter, the article was short so I hope I am not violating any copy right laws. I tried to copy the web address and use that but it included too much to post here.

Breaking! Federal Court Finds California Magazine Ban Violates the Second Amendment
In one of the strongest judicial statements in favor of the Second Amendment to date, Judge Roger T. Benitez of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California determined on Friday that California's ban on commonly possessed firearm magazines violates the Second Amendment. The case is Duncan v. Becerra. The NRA-supported case had already been up to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit on the question of whether the law's enforcement should be suspended during proceedings on its constitutionality. Last July, a three judge panel of the Ninth Circuit upheld Judge Benitez's suspension of enforcement and sent the case back to him for further proceedings on the merits of the law itself.

One of his reasons for killing the Marxists Bill.

"Benitez described three home invasions, two of which ended with the female victims running out of bullets.

In the third case, the pajama-clad woman with a high-capacity magazine took on three armed intruders, firing at them while simultaneously calling for help on her phone.

"She had no place to carry an extra magazine and no way to reload because her left hand held the phone with which she was still trying to call 911," the judge wrote, saying she killed one attacker while two escaped."

LOL sounds like the wild west but they only had six shooters. Gatling guns weren't readily available.

"Eric manufactured three more pipe bombs: the Charlie batch. Then he halted production until December. What he needed was guns. And that was becoming a problem.

Eric had been looking into the Brady Bill. Congress had passed the law restricting the purchase of most popular semiautomatic machine guns in 1993. A federal system of instant background checks would soon go into effect. Eric was going to have a hard time getting around that.

"Fuck you Brady!" Eric wrote in his journal. All he wanted was a couple of guns - "and thanks to your fucking bill I will probably not get any!" He wanted them only for personal protection, he joked: "Its not like I'm some psycho who would go on a shooting spree. fuckers."

Eric frequently made his research do double duty for both schoolwork and his master plan. He wrote up a short research assignment on the Brady Bill that week. It was a good idea in theory, he said, aside from the loopholes. The biggest problem was that checks applied only to licensed dealers, not private dealers. So two-thirds of the licensed dealers had just gone private. "The FBI just shot themselves in the foot," he concluded."

Eric was rational about his firepower. "As of this date I have enough explosives to kill about 100 people," he wrote. With axes, bayonets, and assorted blades, he could maybe take out ten more. That was as far as hand to-hand combat would get him. A hundred and ten people. "that just isn't enough!"

"Guns!" the entry concluded. "I need guns! Give me some fucking firearms! " p.280 'Columbine' by Dave Cullen [bold added]

Actually it sounds nothing like the "Wild West".  If you actually put some time into researching, there was relatively very low crime rate.  And even if there was a shoot out in towns normally anyone armed would shoot back.  They could not afford to lose their blacksmith or local distributer for supplies.

In fact most of the time the sheriff and clerks were out working fields also and many had a socialist style economy, based on goods and service way more than gold or silver.  They relied heavily on people doing their part to keep the crops and meat coming in because their was no way to be entirely self sufficient when it could be a 3 day travel for salt or even longer for ammunition ( or parts for ).

Not to mention they also had to rely heavily on mother nature to not be cruel to them.  And glass jars were used to can all the vegitables that they could which was deligated mostly to the women because the men had to tend to something else.  Anything that actually left the community as an export, the proceeds or supplues traded for were generally put into a coffer for lumber for repairs, iron for the blacksmith, or common supplies that could not be grown in the area such as oats , rice , flour/wheat and even yeast.

And almost 0 crime rate unless from an out of towner.

But once a territory became a state the feseral government came in and taxed everyone bringing upon a necessity for a revenue based system.

In fact the original colonies were socialist but that got old quick because to many suits didn't want to put in the work and thought they should be in charge and the workers got tired of feeding the sitters.
