Kind of surprised to see computers on so many lists.

And the wife? If she was bed ridden I get her but otherwise
she better be moving like she has a purpose in life and getting my fishing stuff together.

Oh..Hi honey I was just....... Ouch... quit that......
What are you going to do with that rolling pin..........

ST asked about herself, and I said stay out of the way with the dogs and don't get out of the truck.

She has 20 minutes, couldn't she at least make you a sandwich for the road? :D
If it was easy everyone would be do'in it.

My wife and I are getting a grab bag from Be Prepared.  It has food water, first aid and items necessary to survive for 3 days.  Probably pack clothes we need for a few days and run.

The "Be Prepared" site is pretty good, thanks for mentioning it. Is the bag you are getting for one person for 72 hours, or for two or four people?
Every situation is different, my primary bag is based on having to walk long distances in above freezing temperatures, with a piggy back bag designed for short duration situations like getting out of a hotel during a fire, or being stranded on the road overnight.

Before it is destroyed.
What would you take with you?
You back the truck up to the house and start throwing stuff in the back.

Believe it or not, I think about this one every year during fire season when the idiots from the city come up and get stupid.

Now remember, you only have 20 minutes...

My chihuahua and my fiance... maybe some clothes, my purse, laptop... anything else I could salvage.

My hope would be that your fiance would be helping you, so you could take twice as much.

The point of the thread is that it becomes an exercise in the mind of what is important.
Like making sure your important papers are in a fire proof safe, you have a bag always accessible to quickly grab that has essentials like toothpaste, a meal or two of canned food and dried or jerked meats, TP, phone numbers.

Essentially a bag that can sustain you a few days till the danger passes.
There are ideas on the web, even some for sale already prepared, just search grab bag.

My "Grab Bag" (Bug out Bag, BoB) Has copies of my personal documents, the "Ten Essentials" except instead of a map I have a GPS unit along with a regular compass. The Ten essentials list is easy to find online, there are variations, but all are similar. Recently, for political correctness possibly, knives have been omitted. They were number one on most lists for decades. Sorry for the disgression. My bag is too small for most, for practical reasons. Most people don't live on the road like I do, and have space for more in their bug out bags. Mine is designed for me to survive unaided for two weeks in either a cross country or stationary scenario, in three season conditions. Winter is doable, but the food capacity drops to one third the time and supplements to that would be neccessary. I don't know how to post pictures, but will if I can figure it out.

Luckily for us we don't need a bug out bag since we are already in the wildnerness, though my truck is stocked with food and essentials in the event I can't get home.

Its funny, I've been reading and watching videos about worst case scenarios, and I'm finally starting to see some people waking to the fact that if they make it out of the city, they will most likely meet another obstacle, people like me.
My neighbors have talked about this, if we get an influx of city folk all of a sudden, we will be turning them back under threat of force, we don't want them here, its that simple.

So the advice I'm starting to see on some of the survival sites is for people to research where they plan on going and go there first and see if the locals are accepting of outsiders.

My advice to some would be to buy a tiny piece of property in the sticks and if that isn't possible, find a very remote area and bury a stash of non perishables, like TP and jerky bottled water etc.
Its better to have it at the ready than trying to pack it all up and head out, the traffic may not be suitable and you may not get out of town.
Besides, if you are single, you can always use a bike to bugout quickly, instead of a car getting caught in traffic and possibly never leaving, depending on the event in the city.

Oh and Eyes, open a Photobucket account and post your pics there, then you can easily post them here, just look at the help page here, its pretty easy to post photos.
