Here's an interesting list.

http://baconreport.blogspot.com/2007/07/top-100-items-to-disappear-first-during.html

It's been copied and cut and pasted all over the net, but what do you all think? Additions to the list? Comments?

All excellent tips, and you're right about generators, every time we have a major snow storm, you will see a run on them, and the stores can't stock them fast enough.

You mentioned fire wood, one mistake people make, is to think they can stretch the seasoned wood by adding a fresh cut log to the fire.
This is the worst thing someone can do, the moisture coming off the wet log, will capture the BTUs from the dry log, taking them right out the chimney with them.

People, never burn wood with any moisture content whatsoever.

One other thing you mentioned was water bladders, you can get used water beds on Craigslist for free, just use a cup of chlorine and some pool fungicide and pour it in, add around 50 gallons of water and let soak for a week or so, drain, rinse, and repeat till clean, and fill, you can stack them in twos.
One water bed bladder of water can last for several months for one person.
If you don't trust your water, add bleach 1 part per million is enough to stop any growth, more if you don't trust the water, but it will taste bad.

Remember, if you smell the chlorine and you only added a little, then the water probably had contamination, the smell is chloramines, thats breakdown of the chlorine fighting the bacteria.

Great list.....  I was trying to figure out which ones we already have....  :) :)

I would also recommend at least a 90 day or more supply of medications you may need...  And try to find if any herbal supplements can be used.

Thanks AF.

Not only does tuna in oil have a longer shelf life, but the oil can also be used for cooking.

The oil could also be used as a rust inhibitor or lubricant.

Since it is tuna oil I would probably rather use it this way...cooking with it seems gross.  :) :)

Actually, the oil used to pack tuna in cans is 100% vegetable oil.  The oil can be filtered through cheesecloth or something like that and re-used.

You can also mask the odor of the tuna oil with a spoonful of Limburger cheese.  ;)
