They expect Yellowstone to go at any time. The roads are melting. The animals are leaving. Hoping it will be a small volcano.
Gold is for failed currencies.
Rice and beans are for a shortage of food.
If you think you will starve, Come to Oregon. We have millions of wild geese that are too lazy to fly south for the winter.

I see them every morning on the Oregon side of the Columbia River.  They know where the best government programs are.   :sneaky:

Don't forget seeds.     and ammo        lots of ammo.   good reason to buy another gun or two      and maybe more ammo   Seriously, ammo will be priceless for barter, at least in the opening days should anything happen. It also helps to protect your other investments.

Save some of the gunpowder to cauterize wounds.

Which also means stocking a modest supply of alcohol for medicinal purposes.

You sound like you have the same crappy soil I have to deal with.
And you make a great point. To those that think they can simply plant seeds in the event of an emergency without years of prep work are in for a huge shock, because not all plants adapt to the same Ph, while others require more nitrogen.

And yes, always plan on 30% of your crop for wildlife, or as you pointed out, BAIT!

Our soil becomes concrete when it's dry, with huge cracks running thru it.  We're dumping manure and sawdust on it, mixing it in, dumping more.   ...actually see an earth worm now and then.  Planting white dutch clover, turning it under, etc.

Bait!  Bait!?  Bait..?   Never!  not here!

Got really bad news from the Allergist 3 weeks ago.  Allergic to Cantalope, Venison, Garlic.  It took a lifetime to come up with canning recipes for Venison, only to find out it was wrecking havoc on my digestive tract.  Naturally... this year we had a bumper crop of Cantalope, and deer are everywhere.

Really?  Roads melting!? :scared:
Once again, proof the EPA and NPS are responsible for the Global Warming scare.

I've never been to Yellowstone, the idea of becoming an afternoon snack for a couple of bears, mountain lions & my bones picked clean by vultures ... and no defense against them isn't appealing.  Last time I ate a Black Bear, it tasted like greasy "Twinkies"...

I'd love to see a Griz hot-footing it across a roadway .... LOL.

So... that McDonalds commercial where the Bear picks up the car & shakes the last French Fry out of the car - was inspired by actual events?!  LOL

Each time I have been there.  There have been people out of there car taking photo, up close and personal.  That and buffalo also.  With fools like that they don't need McD French Fries.

I've been collecting things and lately turned it up a bit.  Been using 2 liters cleaned out for salt, pepper and sugar.  Figure I don't have to worry, they are food safe all ready.
Been canning and pressure canning, that never stops.
It's not just for when the stock market crashes.

One of the first things we did when we moved into this house - figure out where the Pantry was going to be.... and move the cases & cases of  canning jars there...  coming up with mouse proof cabinets took a little more doing!

Glass and metal,  peppermint oil works also, the plant around the perimeter of the home works. Not a cure all because if they it, they are in,lol. Mice defense is always find their way in and block it.
