Anyone know a lot about these? U.V. light that is solar powered and kills microbes in water. Very small and portable. I'm wondering if anyone knows how long they last and how reliable they are.

Yes, I know what it is and what it does. My question is how practical, reliable, and long-lasting it is from people who have used it.

I have a Steri-Pen and have used a few. There can be a reliability issue as they tend to be somewhat fragile. I protect mine in a padded plastic box. They do not change the taste of the water, and the only real way you know it works is you do not get sick. You also must be sure you only drink water that the light has contacted, which means to make sure you clean the rim of your container well. It is good for carrying without the intent to use it, such as a backup system when you carry water with you and unexpectedly get delayed beyond the limits of your supply.
