I bought the 10 acres next door to mine.
Here we were looking at land in Idaho and the neighbor came up after being absent for the last three years, in fact, he's only been up here 15 times in the last 25 years.
Anyway, I told him that last year someone had a pot farm on his property at the East end, bout a quarter mile from where we were standing, I'd spotted it with my drone, but it had already been harvested, so he took off pissed as all get out, came back even madder than when he left.
He said they had been living down there, trashed the place, cut the lock on his gate so they could haul dirt in with a quad, and now they were already growing again, had about 50 young starts, said" "That's It, I'm Fuckin Selling!"
Knowing how hot land is up here right now, there would have been a bidding war and it would have sold for another $80K over what I offered him, which to me, was a steal, it would have been another month and another pot farmer would be growing on the other side of me.
So I made him a cash offer he couldn't refuse, so I guess I'm staying here in Ca.
I didn't want to, but Toy won't be retiring for at least another year and I'm allergic to the smell of weed growing, kills my throat and I wake up with a damn headache every morning till it's harvested.

It's nowhere as pretty as my piece, but merging the two will be a huge asset in a few years.
God, I despise libs! Did I ever mention that?

Maybe I can convince her to bail in a few years.

Can you get your sheriff to set up a sting for the pot growers?

I have a call into the detective working the case and left a message requesting exactly that, I just hope they didn't pull the plants already.
Hell, I just hope they see it as a priority. The real estate lady said there's been a huge demand for raw land up here since word got out our DA isn't prosecuting cases.
Not that what they do isn't illegal, just that the law is about to change making it legal and all the work to keep it out would have been a waste of tax dollars.

Unfortunately, this is excellent wine and weed country and there's a lot of money in weed at the moment.
I still want the fuck out of here because of the idiocy of the state, but at least now I don't have to worry about weed 100' from my house while I wait for Toy to retire.

Sheriff came out, said a sting would only net a misdemeanor at worst.
They did have some encouraging words however, they explained a new law will take effect that forces these grows down to 100 sq feet, that's a farcry from what the other neighbor did, where he had 10 thousand square feet, just like about 20 parcels within a mile radius of me, I know, I fly my drone and they stand out like a sore thumb.

I stumbled across a "secluded garden" a few years ago, while marking underground utilities.

Hmmm.... do I spray paint these orange, or skip over this 200' patch?

Painted it orange.  Dots and stripes, like it was just another ordinary weed I didn't recognize.
After I got off the land, I mentioned it to everyone I ran into, "about 4 miles of that stretch is gonna be mowed next week, digging and construction on that stretch...".

2 weeks later, it looked like someone plowed and raked over the whole 200' of weed.  Wonder what utility marking paint does to the sinuses when ya try to smoke it...?   Come to think of it, I'll be back there again in a couple of weeks, hope they had the sense to move on.

And I hear you on the smell of it growing, makes me sneeze.

Yes, and sneezing as well as headache and sore throat.
Years past, it never smelled like the crap today. My great uncle had 1000 plus acre ranch in Kansas I used to visit back in the early 60s, the govt paid him to grow hemp/rope for the war effort and I played in it and the smell was like playing on a regular lawn.

After the war he couldn't get rid of the shit, cattle wouldn't eat it either, so there it was, about 100 acres of worthless weed because the THC was so low it had no marketable value.
Fast forward to today, they throw away the leaves, the leaves are totally worthless, all they breed for is seedless bud and the higher THC content, the higher the resin, the more it stinks.
Turns out, the best and most sought after weed comes right from my area, they even have brand names for the plots where it was grown.
Blows the wine industry out of the water. Two vineyards were replaced by pot farms, and this is wine country.
Not much else grows here, though they do have one area across the river called Apple Hill, world renowned....As a Freakin Tourist Trap!

Here's another reason to MOVE out of California.  For the Chu-Chu-Train you'll buy - but, never ride.

http://www.breitbart.com/california/2017/04/07/jerry-browns-12-cent-gas-tax-passes-legislature-deadline/

QuoteBoth houses of the California legislature passed a 12-cent gasoline tax hike on Thursday, meeting Governor Jerry Brown's deadline to provide an estimated $52 billion in new revenues, ostensibly for transportation infrastructure.

The bill, which also raises Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) fees, barely reached the two-thirds majority needed to raise taxes in both the State Assembly and the State Senate. Passage marks a huge political victory for Gov. Brown, who is in his fourth and final term as governor. The political consequences for legislators, however, have yet to be seen, as voters have not yet felt the pinch of a tax hike that, critics say, will hit rural and working-class Californians hardest.

Here's the reason to move - you're gonna be flat broke, they're sucking it out of ya, and just increased it another 12 cents at a time!
The only HIGH SPEED thing about this - your wallet being drained!

Is there a marijuana tax?   Oh, never let a tax opportunity slip away, just ask a Democrat.
http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-pol-ca-pot-legalization-local-taxes-snap-20161118-story.html

QuoteNow, some activists and industry leaders are worried about the affordability of legal marijuana as cities and counties pile their own taxes of up to 15% on top of the 15% state excise tax approved by voters who passed Proposition 64.

"We are very concerned about the problem of overtaxation," said Dale Gieringer, director of the California branch of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. He noted that cultivation taxes in Proposition 64 boost the state's tax hit on the industry to close to 25%.

"Throw in another 15% in local taxes, and there will be a very strong incentive for growers to evade regulation and sell on the illegal market," Gieringer said.

When did TAXES ever prevent illegal activity?  Jerry Brown is trying to horn in on the drug trafficking trade.

There is no tax so great - that will not be raised again.

Update: Sheriff DEA officers came by, (nice guys) when I inquired about a sting, they said trespassing and weed were both misdemeanors and the DA wouldn't prosecute, that right now their priorities are focused on heroin.
We haven't had a heroin problem in CA since the mid 60s.

Spray it with Paraquat or Roundup, or some other weed killer.  When they check on it, they might think it's maturing, and harvest it.   The surprise will come when they have coughing fits trying to smoke it.

Find something that's easily distilled, just in case they try to turn it into "oil" or concentrate it.
No matter what they do with it, it's 100% crap - concentrating it makes it that much nastier.

Awesome.

I hope your local LEO will enforce Trespassing Laws.

Though I fear if they're ILLEGAL FUCKBAGS you'll be forced to shoot and bury them all on your own.

What the hell do we pay Property Taxes for ?
