Hey, Walks! I have taken several courses, not all from the same school. Some of the training for skills was from family and friends while growing up, and I learned a few from older people who traded teaching me some "old " ways. Because of my current lifestyle, skills of hunting and fishing are not as widely practiced as I would like, but I do try to keep practicing other basic skills. One thing that I am finding is that being in shape is equally important, and along with that being in good health. Getting older does not mean you have to be out of shape, and that sneaked up on me. I am rectifying that though. I activly seek out people who share lessons in the outdoors and bushcraft, and since work takes me over a wide range of places, there are many opportunities to learn and share.  I am no expert, not by a long shot. Mostly I am just a person interested in how people get by and along within tough circumstances.

Solar, worry not. The " hanging food" keeps me fed without having me track through the kitchen and without foraging in the refrigerator. A sausage hung from the bottom of the raised porch keeps it away from the dogs and critters. I just hack off a chunk and all is good to go for a while.

I think it needs to be said that if the economy completely collapses -- no one is completely prepared - unless they are 110 and lived in Germany during the German collapse of 1923-1924.  Emotionally, I am not sure if I am ready even though I have believed we were headed toward collapse for the past twenty years.  My guess, is that as none of us have gone through anything like this -- we will surprised how it will effect some folks - and how quickly folks will turn to Big Brother for help.  My opinion is that we need to do our small part in creating a viable alternative to economic slavery for our neighbors.

Yes I have food for a year and yes I have what I need to protect that food (if needed).  I think it is worth studying, however, what happened in Germany AFTER their implosion -- Hitler was able to make his arguments for Socialism (on a national scale).  He was also able to direct national frustration on a easy scapegoat - the Jews.
