One question. Who ever heard of a license for a high powered rifle?



The long national nightmare that almost no one knew about is over.

The longest and possibly most bizarre stand-off in American history has come to an end.

John Joe Gray, from Trinidad, near Dallas, Texas, was arrested in 1999 for biting a police officer after the cop found he was carrying high-powered rifles without a license during a traffic stop.

Gray paid his bond and has since refused to go to court, hiding inside his 47-acre property for 16 years and vowing to shoot any officer of the law who tries to make him leave.

The bearded grandfather, his children, grandchildren and friends have armed themselves with pistols and rifles and patrolled their grounds ever since – with the county sheriff choosing not to send cops in for fear of them being killed.

But the unusual stalemate has finally come to an end after the authorities decided they just could not be bothered to wait for Gray to emerge any longer.

Here's the funny thing; charges were dropped by prosecutors two years ago, and no one told either law enforcement or the Gray family until now.

Henderson County Sheriff Ray Nutt was informed that the charges had been dropped last we, and responded with shrug, "Joe Gray has been in prison out there himself, in my opinion, for 14 years."

Gray's self-imposed exile on land without electricity or running water was far longer than the prison sentence he would have faced for the 3rd degree felony.

Q: Can I carry a firearm on my person?
A: Yes, with proper licensing (Concealed Handgun License) you may carry a pistol or revolver on your person so long as it remains concealed. Long guns (rifles / shotguns) do not have to be concealed, but must be carried in a manner not calculated to cause alarm, and do not require a license.

There's a faceplant page on this and people are acting like it's horrible to live like that.
Give me that land over a house in the suburbs any day, I lived that way for nearly 5 years and they were some of the best days of my life.

Wow, I've never heard about the standoff.  Congrats, John Joe.  The spirit of liberty perseveres.

? .... So, the implication this was as bad or worse than prison?  Oh, I forgot, the article was probably written for city dwellers - who sink into deep depression if they cell phone battery dies.

The issue is, carrying a gun in a vehicle.

Most states have laws that say, in one way or another,
that if you carry a gun in a motor vehicle,
it must be stored such that
one would have to get out of the vehicle to access it and use it.

Except if one has a concealed carry license.
In that case, the gun is allowed to be accessible to the licensee.

Good for him..!! Under current gun laws if he'd been convicted 'n made to serve any time in prison, he would for rest of his life lost his right to own, possess, or use a firearm. I surprised the environmental, tree-hugging Americans who don't like fossil fuels would applaud him for living off the grid ---------wait one sec--------- that's not likely to happen because after all is said, he's got two strikes against him on this: 1. He's a gun owner; and 2. all environmentalists hate Texans unless they live in Austin or Travis county..!!
