You've never heard of Big 5? Or is it a, West of the Rockies store chain?
None around here, but their web page looks very similar to Academy. Wonder if they're cousins.

Can you put together a knife brand/manufacturer summary of what you would buy/avoid?
With all these lawyers with cameras on the street i'm shocked we have so much crime in the world.

There is constitutional law and there is law and order. This challenge to law and order is always the start to loosing our constitutional rights.

Frauditors are a waste of life.

You have to decide on what you want first, then decide on what steel you prefer. I prefer high carbon steel, holds the best edge, but needs to be kept oiled.
I avoid stainless unless I'm buying a throwing type knife, they are less apt to shatter if you hit something real hard. Look for balance, does it fit your hand comfortably, is it too big for the job, or too small to be helpful?
Like I said earlier, a Bowie style is a perfect all around knife, be it chopping wood or throwing for self protection. But I live in the forest so this is my go to knife.

I do however have a shitload of cheap knives I keep in all my vehicles including bear mace and an air horn. Sometimes even the cheapest throw away knife can be a good choice. Walmart has a good selection cheap. Just make sure it's easy to open in an emergency with one hand if possible, but if you have to struggle to open it, move on.
You have to decide what you want, then buy a variety if you can afford them. An old buck lock blade is always a great choice. Check state laws about carrying.

Just looking for a couple of extra folding knives to keep in my pockets. Something reasonable enough to last and cheap enough that I will not be upset if it gets lost, confiscated, or broken.

I think sporting goods stores and walmart carry like, 5 packs of cheap hunting/fishing knives for under $15.0. They may  have glow in the dark plastic handles, but they do they job.
I have an orange one on my desk as I type, got a multi pack from Northern Tool for ten bucks, does the job because they come really sharp with a needle type point.
Assuming you don't lose good knives, Buck comes with a lifetime warranty.

I bought that pack before, or the wife got one similar, they were good until we lost them all in the forest here. I think the reason we lost them was they didn't come with a sheath and since they were cheap cost wise, we didn't really care to hunt for them.
They're perfect for the tool box, glove compartment, pocket etc. Yeah, you can't beat the price.
