How to survive life after an EMP

Here are five tips for surviving after an EMP ......

1. Don't let popular fiction determine your level of fear or preparedness, or lack thereof. 2. Over a period of seven days, keep track of anything mechanical or electronic that you rely on.  Then, prioritize them from most important, possibly even life-saving, to least important. Make plans for how you would deal with the loss of each item on the list, starting with the ones that are most important to your family's survival.
3. When it comes to preparedness, quality is non-negotiable.  It does no good to have a pile of hand tools, or anything else for that matter, if they are poorly designed and made of low-quality materials.  It's possible that an EMP would cause factories of virtually every consumer good to come to a standstill.  If that should happen, do you want to be stuck with cheap tools from the dollar store?  Whenever possible, buy the highest quality products you can afford.
4. Primitive camping trips may be the best strategy for preparing yourself and your family for a long-term power outage caused by an EMP.
5. Know your area's geography.  If you have to walk miles in order to get home, to a safe place, or to just circumnavigate a dangerous situation, you'd better know multiple routes, including traveling cross country.  Detailed maps are necessary, but nothing takes the place of physically traveling and checking out alternate routes.
http://thesurvivalmom.comThought these were some interesting things to think about...

Electro Magnetic Pulse.

Caused from detonating a nuke in the atmosphere, no damage to infrastructure, but brings all things electric to a halt.

This was the argument for keeping the rail service afloat back in the 60s when we still had steam engines in use, diesel is another that doesn't require electricity.

It is considered to be a tactical nuke, one you use just before invasion.

Thank you.... man I should have known that...ugh.....lolololol

I had to think for a moment myself, its been awhile since I heard mention of it.
I highly doubt this will ever be an issue, seeing how a nuke launch is a nuke launch, and no Country wants to start a nuclear war.

Then again the events in japan is bring all this to light.... and they got smacked again today to with another earth quake...7. something.... incredible.

Does an EMP destroy all electric devices, even those turned off during the EMP?

No, if the system is shielded it is safe, if its unplugged, it is fine as well, assuming you weren't near zero effect, meaning the blast was directly above.

Shielding is nothing more than a metal case with 1/8' holes drilled in the case, or say a glass door like you would find on a microwave oven.

The wave of energy, (if I remember correctly) travels much like micro waves, if visible to the naked eye would look much like a light beam, but under a magnifying glass slowed down, it would take on a controled up and down look, its this wave that is too wide to penetrate the 1/8' hole, if the hole was an inch, then it could get through.
Just like the dots or grid on your microwave window, if that grid was larger, the microwaves could get through.

But none of this really matters, that is, if your pooter was plugged in, there could have been a surge on the line, not to mention, you will probably have to replace your monitor.

Try this, take a magnet ( a very weak one) and wave it quickly past your screen, you will see the screen act really weird, but an EMP blast will most likely make it permanent.

But all of this will be pointless, seeing how we would suddenly be back in 1750, the only difference would be, that they all had oil lanterns.

If you work in an office and this were to happen, there would be no lights, not even backup lights.
Forget your cell phone, its flat dead.
Flashlight? only if it were shielded.
But it will be that long walk home, because your car will not start most likely, seeing how there is still a lingering effect in the atmosphere.

This is why a contingency plan for your family is so important.
Where will you all meet? Hopefully not in the city, it will be a nightmare, pick an out of the way place in the country and have a stash of food ready, you will all be hungry. ;)

and make sure that food supply is not tethered to fridge or freezer.... From what I understand,,, communication IF there  is any would resume after days. IF the big dogs properly secured their systems. But yep... it would def be a throw back.

Here is the simplest way to protect electronics from a blast.
Buy a cheap metal building, think of it as a reverse microwave box, simply known as a (Faraday cage).

But be sure and ground the metal building with a copper ground wire and a true ground post set deep in the ground.
Everything inside will be protected from an EMP blast.

all I remembered was it's an F cage that had something to do with serious copper wires and aluminum... that and a royal solar flare would put a bunch out also,lol... :D
