When things get BAD, this can happen.

QuoteStarving mob beat cattle to death with rocks in desperate search for food and four people are killed during looting in Venezuela as country's economic collapse continues

QuoteWhen the animal finally falls to the ground in the footage, more villagers gather around - presumably to begin the distribution of its meat.
According to local media, dozens of cows were killed by the crowds at several different ranches.
'They're hunting. The people are hungry!' says the narrator of the video, who filmed the incident from his car.

Silver & Gold...?   Food is all that matters, for them...  Although, they do seem to have gas for their vehicles, and seem to be able to run around like they're not "starving" - if the owner still had a firearm, this might not happen.
All animals are created equal; Some just take longer to cook.   Survival is keeping an eye on those around you...

More details.   The lingering question / problem, for a family farm - what do you plan to do?  Lose all your animals and livelihood, start shooting thieves, or what?

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jan/21/venezuela-looting-violence-food-shortages
QuoteDuring the first 11 days of January the Venezuelan Observatory for Social Conflict, a Caracas rights group, recorded 107 episodes of looting and several deaths in 19 of Venezuela's 23 states.

But the figures don't fully capture the level of desperation. Recent headlines from Venezuela read like notes from the apocalypse:

On Margarita Island dozens of people waded into the ocean and forced their way aboard a fishing boat, making off with its catch of sardines
In the city of Maracay, just west of Caracas, thieves broke into a veterinary school, stole two pregnant thoroughbred horses and slaughtered them for meat.
A recent video from the western state of Mérida shows a group of people cornering a cow before stoning it to death as bystanders yell: "The people are hungry!"
There have been previous incidents of looting but analysts fear that the current wave could linger amid the Venezuela's economic freefall.

President Nicolás Maduro blames the country's woes on an "economic war" against his government by rightwingers and foreign interests.

I notices Maduro continues to blame people outside his country, as if "we" have anything to do with "his" Socialist Utopia.  The problem with Socialism is simple, sooner or later, you start running our other people's money and goods.

For a farmer who loses their livestock, it will literally take YEARS to start a new herd, even a small herd of cows.  Pigs can recoup quicker, but large farm animals (cows/horses) have gestation periods of 11 months and only come into heat once or twice a year, and then only giving you ONE additional animal.   In the case of milk cows, it's a 50/50 chance you'll get a heifer, so you could go 2-3 years between getting what you need.

This is like eating your "seed stock" to stay alive.   I wonder if these people have ZERO gardening skills, or we're only reading about the greedy thugs.

If that situation should occur here, it would be proof that our way of life is over and it is every man or organization for themselves. Thieves would not stop with just livestock, your house, possessions, ect. would be next. Protecting your family and way of life comes first.

This next story is why I sort of question the validity of the previous stories - but both are BAD.

Quote"Officials carried out home searches in Paekam County to determine how much food some families had," a North Korean source told Daily NK. "As an excuse to enter and demand bribes, they said to the residents, 'Are we just going to let our military starve while the Americans lick their lips and prepare to eat us alive?'"

The Seoul-based website, which covers the Hermit Kingdom through a network of informants, published a photo last month purportedly showing North Korean soldiers rummaging through a corn field.

We *know* the NORKs are starving - yet they are growing crops.

We are lucky. We have the 2nd amendment. This can only happen in a country which does not.

Now this is a BAD idea.
https://www.atr.org/enviros-push-meat-tax
Quote"We have never been closer to a meat tax," said Ashley Byrne, associate director of campaigns for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). "We have seen people—including meat eaters—realizing that meat is bad for their health and meat is taking this incredible toll on the environment. People seem more open than ever to an excise tax on meat. If we are going to tax tobacco, if we are going to tax soda, it absolutely makes sense to have a similar tax on meat.
(sorry, I can quote from the original article, it's a paid site)

What happens when a huge SIN TAX is slapped on Cigarettes?  People find a way around the TAX, buying them at Indian Casinos, or across state lines where they might spend $20 in gas to save $10 in TAX.   It is the principle of the thing, people know when they're being unfairly treated, and do things out of vengeance.

Put a sin TAX on meat...   OK, then, we can probably expect Chicken, Turkey, Pig & Cattle rustling to follow.   Or, some variation of it.   The Government wants to tag every cow so it can be traced back to the farm of origin, partially to figure out where contaminated, sick meat originates from.  The government also sends out an annual farm census form - count your chickens, cows, etc., which leaves us scratching our heads every year, "Why?"  (Virginia raises a LOT of beef!)

We've already lost chickens & turkeys to thieves, and so we put up night vision cameras and signs to remind would-be thieves we're recording what goes on here.  This sucks, because it means your livestock needs to stay close to the house at night or you risk losing them.   Putting any kind of TAX on these animals is going to make them even more valuable to criminals.

...And I thought it was bad that I had to take a piece of a 2X6 and beat the hell out of a coon inside my chicken coop...it killed four before I found out.  But yes, deer hunting cams would be needed at the least. At that, we may have to raise our chickens in our basement.

If there is a tax, then the prices can increase significantly.

Last August it got so bad that Venezuelans ranksacked the zoo for food.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/2017/08/17/venezuelas-starving-people-are-now-eating-the-zoo-animals-the-parisians-had-the-german-excuse/#77494e46d2cc

Cities will always be the first place to starve.  Then compound it with morons who have no clue where their food originates, like most city critters, and you have the makings of a mass famine on your hands.

Of course we could have told Venezuelans that this would have been the inevitable outcome of socialism, but they really wanted to experience the devastation and starvation first-hand.  As the adage goes, "you get the government you deserve."
