We had kids bringing 22 rifles to school for show-n-tell when I was in 3rd grade... Christmas or birthday presents.
Interesting... I don't remember that happening ever again, after JFK was shot.... Civil Defense Drills ended about the same time.

Yep, and everyone learned that day, what "Down Range" meant.
We all went out back of the school and had a range day, so to speak, but that ended in 1963 too.
