We are finding out how quickly you lose space when storing food, unfortunately you can't keep it just anywhere, it has to stay cool and dry.
So were looking at digging out an area in the mountain side for a bunker style storage, that way if we have a forest fire, we don't lose everything.
Right now, we'd be wiped out if we had one.

Good for you....  Before you start you may like to check out root cellar on the net.  There a lot of good info now.  I remember have a root cellar as a kid for over 15 years.

The one I plan on building is simple cinder block and sealed from the outside with a mastic to prevent water seepage, about 6' tall 12 ' deep inward and about 6' across, then buried under 4' of Earth with a steel door.
Nothing elaborate, just a food vault.
