The storm will last more than a couple of years.
You're right and will leave irreparable damage, but the worst part will be about two years.
I see a residual effect of around 4 to 5 years, and some prices may never return, coffee may be one of those items, along with many products we import.

Oh yes!!  I can remember getting coffee at 5¢ a cup and all you could drink.
But then I could fill my gas tank for under 3.00 $ and they even check my oil and air as part of the fill up.   ;D

Sad thing is, it was just 40 short years ago.
I remember buying bottom round for .39 cents a pound, but that was when it was considered junk meat, along with free dog bones, all you could carry, now they call them soup bones and charge as much as $2.49 lb.

We keep talking about getting some cows, but I had my fill of that as a cowboy.

Today I was in Costco and they had some new big bulk food storage containers that look very good.  Look like they could hold 40 or 50 lbs of sugar or flower with no problem, with a rubber seal that locks down on all 4 sides.  They just came out.

I will have to run by and see if my Costco has them...  Thanks for the heads up WT.

At my Costco they were with the 17 gal storage containers for shop or office.
They may not be at all Costco stores, unless they go over good.

rice is very good inside a container. I use it for keeping dried chili's from attracting wet. I would think to keep critters out of the containers...might be a good idea to break the stuff down into smaller things then put them in a large carry all type of thing. Sage keeps bugs out...so does patcholi(sp), peppermint keeps mice away I "believe",,,I also know from old car collectors that drier sheets will keep mice out of wiring n such.

She gets great storage containers from the local grocery store bakery for free, they get their supplies in excellent resealable containers.
What were looking for is either huge 55 gal drums that we can put individual sealed servings in, or a system that was designed for easy access.

Yes, I read she was getting some containers for free. I only suggested this other option in case she needed more containers and couldnt get any free containers. I think I paid about $4.00 at most for both the lid and 5 gallon container. That is not bad when gasoline costs so much and I consider the drive to hunt free containers.

As for free or cheap 55 gallon drums~ Have you all checked with the Co-op? That may be a possibility.

Being prepared for the worst is always a good idea, we live a long way from any town, and even further from a major city, so if there is a forest fire, or the bridge washes out, we will be fine.

Yeah, and we want you folks to be safe and well fed! ;D

Besides, the price of food is about to go through the roof, have you not been watching World commodities? ;) ::)
Of course you haven't, but if you lived in another Country, you would be feeling the hit big time, were about to pay $4.00+ per gallon of gas, and that will effect all food prices in the Nation.
So stocking up now to weather the storm is just a way to get us through the storm that should last a couple of years.

I am aware food and gasoline and everything else is going up. I dont watch commodities nor the stock market. I do read the news though. I am convenient to grocery stores, wal marts lowes, home depots... etc... so I will just plug along. If I tried the food storage, with my luck, I would ruin my food.

Good luck to you guys in this venture.

I was just teasing you about the commodities report, reading that is even less entertaining than watching paint dry. (insert snoring smiley here)
We have those here as well, just not all that close, but for us it's a business move as well, the prices you see today, will be much higher next year, and continue to increase quarterly, so for us it's a matter of simply saving money in the long run.

stocking up has always been the way of it. I learned from my Grandmother and my Mom and my Aunt. They always said to keep  things.  It's probably why I do alot of canning  and stuff like that...
It was drilled in my head that the depression will never be a one time thing. I spect that stuck, lol.

@ Elfie~  Stocking up was never something we had to worry about. I suppose if we have to, we will take up our guns and shoot some squirrels if it really gets bad around these parts. (We do have our fair share of those critters plus some.) We could also fish too and set traps.  :D

I could not hear that dry humor of yours, Solar.

Dont I know all about the rising cost of food. I just bought a pkg of cream cheese... $1.98 and not so long ago it was $1.34 and that was not the sale price. On sale it would cost approx .89cents. Yes, I understand.

Oh, and as for ribeye steak here in the South... Last Summer, I could find them on sale for 4.97 per pound. Today, ribeyes range from $13,97 to 6.97 per pound.

Oh my, I know we don't pay that much, but meat has been going up steadily for some time now, (thank you ethanol in gas)
Due to corn/feed prices, but we, or I should say ST shops at Sams club, the grocery store just can't compete with their prices.
Though, Raley's has a far better brand of meat, but at nearly twice the price.
