In today's day it's extremely difficult to maintain a viable food source. Animals and other people ruin gardening and it's seasonal. Hunting can be unreliable. If there is an emergency it's always good to know you can still eat. I used to buy canned food in bulk but they take up a lot of room. Recently a friend gave me a food kit and I have to say I was impressed. The food actually tastes pretty good. If you are interested you can get some ideas from this site. I'm using this one because it's my favorite but there are a few places you can find them.

Solar and I have been buying, and stocking up, from this company for over a year.   I was really impressed with the quality of the food and the instant milk was perfect for Solar.  He is used to drinking anywhere from 1/2 to 1 gallon of non-fat milk a day.  This stuff blends up beautifully.  Once chilled there is no difference from the milk you buy at the store.   The bonus is I am not buying and lugging home 10-12 gallons every couple of weeks.  It is cheaper and my fridge is not filled with gallons of milk.

The diced chicken and turkey work really well and my daughters love the vanilla yogurt bites.  Recently they had cranberries which I was able to rehydrate and use in our traditional Cranberry Waldorf salad over the holidays and mixed up nicely in my cranberry scones.

I live in SW Florida and originally bought MRE's and 10# cans of dehydrated food for Hurricane preparedness ... now I've been stocking up because of rising food prices and rumored food shortage.  I've been purchasing from
Emergency Essentials ... prices aren't too bad (every once in awhile they'll run specials) and a lot of their 10# dehydrated foods don't contain a lot of preservatives or seasonings.

Give Toy's site a try, all freeze dried, far superior to dehydrated.
We live on it, in some cases, cheaper than a box store.
