Don't Think It Can't Happen Here

What happened in Japan is much like playing spin the bottle, the bottle had to point somewhere.
That somewhere was Japan this time.

This was written the day before the quake, keep in mind, this is known as the ring of fire" an area that can go off at anytime.
Here is a pic of the ring of fire...

Over the past 12 hours, several "suspect" RADAR signatures have appeared over the Pacific Northwest.

Mount Saint Helens IS showing some signs.. all the volcanos in the Pacific Northwest are showing signs of rumbling.

Since SO many volcanos have erupted or showed signs of unrest, uptick in activity, it is worthy to note these harmonics and tremors at the actual volcano's themselves.

Point is, this could have easily have happened here.

The point of this thread, is be prepared, if this were to happen here, there would be long lines to get gas, food, and any essential that you quickly run low on.
You should have a minimum of three day supply in the least.

If there are those that dont think it cant happen here,,, then I feel bad for them.  Mother Nature will raise her head and will exert her power.      I get giggled at all the time for the stockin up I do and the dry and instant goods that I snag up.
As proven right now in Japan,,,,, nothing is immune from nature in a foal mood.

This is why I love Mother Nature, she always reminds man that she is in charge.
People get complacent in their belief that they are somehow in charge of their surrounding environment, nothing could be further from the truth. :D

Concern over earthquakes ain't just a California thing. The strongest earthquake ever recorded in North America was not even near the ocean! The epicenter of this 1811 quake (estimated as high as 8.6 on the Richter scale) was near a little town in Missouri called New Madrid. It was strong enough to re-align the Mississippi River -- after forcing it to run backwards for a while -- and lower New Madrid itself ten feet.

This map is an estimate of the shock patterns of the New Madrid quake and the great San Francisco quake of 1906. (It looks funny because in 1811 there wasn't much of anybody who spoke English west of the Mississippi to report on things like earthquakes.) Google "new madrid" to learn more...

Good point T, in Ca, we know we are on the ring of fire and expect earth quakes.
This pic of the San Andreas fault is a constant reminder we are on a dividing line.
But its the areas where generations pass who never feel quakes, that people need to be most concerned about, they tend to be the ones that hit really hard.
Most of the problems are caused by liquifaction, a process where homes simply sink into oblivion.

Maybe this will quell your fears Elf.

Thats a good article... think I will print it out and show it to Himself. The both of us figured once they put sea water into the chamber to cool the rods it became contaminated.  Once we heard last night of the crack in the containment foeld after reports of them removing workers.....
we sat there and tried to tell ourselves well maybe they can do it with less workers... naaaaaa, no power... It's interestiong to watch unfold.... living in Illinois we have I think 6 reactors right dang close  (ooopsy,,,, not 6 according to the map   we have 10,lol)..... I watch to learn...... Japan will not cut loose the true details..... understandable the calamity that alone would cause...
oh,,, and yes I do feel much better now..... thanks!,lol

Thing is, they also got swamped by water, I doubt that kind of wave would hit yours.
Like I mentioned earlier regarding liquifaction, most places would simply sink.
Think of a bowl of sand and water with heavy objects on the surface, shake it really hard and the heavier objects simply sink.
That is the worst case scenario if a 9.0 ever hits the Sacramento/SanJoaquin valley, pretty much everything will disappear and the valley will return to a great desert once again.

I guess the bright side would be, that the plant would merely disappear. :o
