I found a really cool website. 
It has ballistics data for 108 different cartridges.
Of course, different bullet weights and barrel lengths
will change the actual performance.
These numbers are averages of multiple conditions.

Conspicuously absent from the table is the 45 Colt cartridge.

Their tables have ballistics data for cartridges
in numerous bullet weights from numerous manufacturers.

There is WIDE variation in cartridges of this caliber.
Also, if you're going to shoot this caliber,
you're pretty much limited to revolvers.
There are a few carbines chambered for these rounds.

There is one 44 Magnum semi auto pistol available:
The Desert Eagle 44 Magnum from   http://www.magnumresearch.com/
It's made in Israel, and costs around $1500.
It has a locking bolt like a rifle, and is gas operated.

There's also the 44 AutoMag, made from 1971-1980.
The cartridge is very similar to, but not interchangeable with the 44 Magnum.
The guns cost $3000 to $4000 used,
and no company manufactures ammunition for them.
