If you had the choice of one knife to take with you in a survival situation, what would it be?

As for knives I currently own, I'd have to go with this one:

My K-Bar wannabe knife. I take this whenever I go backpacking. Not too big, not too small in my opinion. It's also heavy enough to use for chopping small branches as if it were a hatchet.

The blade has a coarse black somewhat sparkly coating on it. I'm assuming this is to keep it from rusting? I've always wondered what that was since I received this knife as gift when I was a teenager, just thought I'd ask.

Excellent question!
For me it would have to be my 18th century Bowie.
Even though a cheap old 60s era Boy Scouts multipurpose knife would have more uses, the Bowie has the weight to chop down trees, dig with it, kill large game, and durable as Hell etc.

Trick Question! Your EDC ( Every Day Carry ) would most likely be the knife you would have in a survival situation. The last wilderness trip I went on that lasted a week, I carried a Buck Folding Skinner. About a four inch blade, chosen by a store clerk.  I was not thrilled, but it was kind of a choice to work with a "maybe not what I would choose" knife. It did Ok, but I would not put it high on my list of survival knives.

Given the choice, my go to all weather all terrain all singing all dancing survival knife is a fixed four inch blade high carbon steel with a rubber handled full length tang semi spear point.

Of course, if I knew what weather and terrain or other environmental factors are, my choice might be different.

I picked up a Morakniv companion on amazon recently and have to say I'm very impressed. It was only 15 bucks and feels pretty sturdy. 3/4 tang (I think), Scandinavian grind made of 4.1 " fixed carbon steel blade, rubber handle. Definitely a good buy.

It's take the bowie knife, a good one starts at about 300$.
