But the dynamics are more along the lines of tricking animals, birds, and fish into situations where they can get get killed, so you can eat and collect skins. 

The  " doesn't know how to "  part is a bit of an overreach.

I've met these people, the same ones that are shocked to find out food isn't made in the back of grocery stores.

True story, a friend of mine brought her new boyfriend up to my property to try his hand at mining.

(First strike) slipped on the bank and fell in the creek, came out whining about his $200.0 shoes getting wet.

(Second strike) "Why are there so God Damned many bugs in the air?" (swatting at invisible bugs)

(Third strike) was when he chastised her for picking wild black berries, said they need to come from a grocery store to be safe to eat.

She quietly stopped picking, and politely said she thought it was time to go.

If it's even possible to get a fourth strike, this was it.
During the trek out, he bitched all the way back up the mountain (half mile walk, 500' elevation increase) about being wet, hot, dirty, thin air, dust, rough road, sun burn, chafing, hungry, thirsty, dirt in his eye, and on and on and on....

She called me that evening and asked if I knew any real men I could set her up with.

Yes, this guy would starve in the wild. Oh, and we was writing a book on the true story of JFK's assassination.. He claimed to be a renowned writer/researcher.

The city-born and -bred would die off pretty quickly in a catastrophe, I think. There's a difference between being smart enough to "trick" critters, or even being willing to do it, and being ABLE to do it, KNOWLEDGEABLE in the crafts required. The "doesn't know how to" would prove to be everything, actually. It takes longer to learn to fish or hunt than it takes to starve to death.

I wasn't putting much stock in Duck Dynasty's shenanigans. 

Fishing is usually the worst case of amateurs sometimes making serious anglers look bad.   My sister's like that... just drops a line in and the biggest of the biggest swarm all-over-it, practically placing the hook in their mouth themselves.

Deer-hunting's next.  The line spreads out, and the buck finds the guy who's hunted the least. 

Amateurs fall for tricks though.  And for phoney stories about where the game and fish might be.

But in the event "SHTF", the comment is true where the rubber meets the road..

I don't know any man that hunts, that can't cook it as well.

Gotten the licence to hunt, because I need it to own guns. But it's too expensive to hunt in Norway without committing to a hunt team or owning large territories of hunting ground if you don't have it as your hobby. I guess I will trade you my fish and crabs
