It's all about survival and no matter how man does in a disaster, fire ants don't have SWJ dragging the species down.

I saw that pic, and my only thought was, "Prefect time to kill those little fire ant bastards..."   - If you can.

Exactly what I thought, a cup of gas and a match or Dawn dish washing liquid as a surfactant to break their buoyancy so they drown.
Ooooh and if you're sick minded, WD-40 and watch them drown. :sneaky:

That is a lot of fire ants. I hated those damn things when I lived in Texas.

You and me both.
I got attacked by these critters in Oklahoma as a kid, there's a reason they're called "FIRE ANTS", because that's what their bites feel like.

I like the Dawn dish soap idea, but really curious about WD-40.   Does it make them sink into the water?

Times like this, are the time to kill them.   Just imagine that little hoard floating up to the side of your house, and suddenly you're overrun with fire ants and water everywhere!

Any chance you could suck them up with a wet-vac and blow them into a crowd of Marxists protesters...?

Yes, spray some, just a quick shot on water and watch it spread a surface breaking layer on the water in seconds.

That would have been great during OWS... just put them in some little container.. walk by a tent, pop the cap, and toss it in....

Actually.... I was thinking, "How do we get those SOBs to take off their masks so the cops could easily identify them?"

Africanized Honey Bees... naaa, they'd try to cover up more.

Ants!   They'd be pulling off everything trying to get the little bastards out of their pants, shirt, cap, scarf, etc.
BONUS!!  Proof they were at the protest - covered in Fire Ant bites, case closed, go-directly-to-jail.

But, come to think of it, youtube might get a million hits per hr with just one video of Taxed, casually strolling thru the OWS encampment, 3am, flipping a paper bag of fire ants into a couple of tents as the squatters come running out, screaming & half dressed.

Might even pay for that one.

Oh, I should add, just a shot of WD on a pond full of mosquitoes does wonders.

We had a water crunch a few years back. I put a couple of 55 gallon barrels under the down spouts to catch water for the garden.
I found just a tad of baby oil kept the 'skeeter larva from reaching the surface for air. Worked well.
Of coarse, I drew the water from the bottom of the barrel.

Cool. I hear vegetable oil is best if you plan on drinking the water, but I imagine baby oil is just as safe?
I just like how WD-40 spread across the pond so quickly, as if a magnet drew it to the sides.
