What if your local pharmacy isn't open for business for several weeks?  What if the local hospital is overrun with sick and/or injured people?  What will you do?

1.  Antibiotics:  As I mentioned in a different thread, the most common, and needed, antibiotics are available without a prescription.........Penicillin, Amoxycillin, Ampicillin, Tetracycline, Doxycycline, Cephalexin, Erythromycin, Ketoconazole, Metronidazole, and even Ciprofloxacin, as well as others.  They're all pharmaceutical-grade antibiotics.  They aren't from some sleazy pharmacy in Canada.  Where are they from, and who are they for?  FISH.  That's right.  All of these antibiotics are used for sick FISH!  All of these antibiotics are available on many veterinarian supply websites, and they don't require a prescription.  They are mostly sold in 250mg and 500mg dosages, and they usually come in bottles of 100 (tablets or capsules, depending on the antibiotic).  The prices are also very reasonable (100- 500mg Amoxicillin caps sell for around $30.00).

2. Over-The-Counter Medications:  Stock up on whatever OTC medications you use, either on a regular basis, or even just occasionally.  The more you have, the better.  Cold meds, allergy meds, aspirin, tylenol, etc., etc., etc.

3.  Medical Supplies:  Stock up on first-aid items (band-aids, gauze, antibiotic ointments, etc., etc., ).  It's a good idea to have a basic surgical kit on-hand, sutures, and even a wound stapler.  If somebody in your home has a heart condition, or if you have elderly people living in your home, a home defribrillator is also something to consider.

The mindset should be that the governments (local, state, and federal) that are supposed to be "ready" for just about ANY disaster scenario, are NOT ready and are in fact woefully UNPREPARED.  We have seen examples of this over and over and over again.

The attutude should be that we are on our own, and we should not expect ANY outside help when disaster strikes.

This is just the beginning of what I hope will be a very informational forum, where we all can share information that may actually save lives.
