Alkaline Batteries In An Emergency

But if it is an emergency, don't throw them away, you can recharge them.

Warning: Not for the incompetent!
Pop the hood on your car and hold a wire to each end of the battery, take the positive + wire and connect it to the + on the car battery and the - negative wire to the negative post of the battery while holding the alkaline battery, this is very important, because the battery will heat up VERY quickly.
When the battery is too hot to hold, about 7 seconds or less, as little as three seconds, it will be charged and ready for use.
Too long and you'll ruin it, or it may explode.

I've tried this and it does work, but its for emergency only, otherwise buy a bunch, they're cheap.

You can also purchase alkaline battery rechargers, called "Renu".  They work like rechargeable battery chargers, and if you have limited electrical power, via backup generator, these Renu chargers work great.

Maybe mine was a lemon, but I bought one and it was crap, never got more than 10% charge.

Try my method, it's free and works much better.

Sounds fine to me, but the "exploding" part might be a problem.  Then it becomes VERY expensive.   ;)

Thats why you let go as soon as they heat up.
I've done quite a few and actually burned my hands, but never held it long enough to pop, could get messy. :o
I imagine it would work fine a weak battery, it's more the amperage than the voltage that does the charging.
I'll have to experiment with a weak 12V battery, Hell, it might be safer. :))
