My young daughter at age 15 cut my lip with a roundhouse kick to my head.  I was the punching bags back then for the family, she did not pull her kick.   The other kids laughed and said I was inside her area.

A lot of guys don't realize how just being big and strong doesn't always help you.  As a guy, you always have a puncher's chance, but if it becomes a struggle with a girl who knows what she's doing, leverage can totally work against you.  Plus, a round kick to the head from a girl will hurt pretty much anyone.  A girl's heel isn't any softer than a guys.

My brother gave our 3 kids and the wife Taekwondo and Aikido lessons for over 20 years.

That is awesome!  Every parent should do that for their children.  Self defense is a part of life.  I wish I started young.
