Title: Supreme Court makes sports betting a possibility nationwide
Post by: walkstall on May 14, 2018, 09:30:13 AM
I don't put more then 5$ down on an in house board game and up to 20$ at a casino.   So I don't call myself a big gambler.

The Supreme Court on Monday struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act. The 1992 law barred state-authorized sports gambling with some exceptions. It made Nevada the only state where a person could wager on the results of a single game.

One research firm estimated before the ruling that if the Supreme Court were to strike down the law, 32 states would likely offer sports betting within five years.

For those who are interested, the actual Supreme Court decision can be found here:

Originally it was Christie v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, but now it is called Murphy vs. NCAA. (https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/17pdf/16-476_dbfi.pdf)

Alito, Roberts, Kennedy, Thomas, Kagan, and Gorsuch supported the decision (at least in part), whereas Breyer, Ginsburg, and Sotomayer opposed the decision.
