Oh, you know this is gonna get good, Roger Goodell just bit off more than he can chew.

https://sports.yahoo.com/goodell-calls-trump-comments-divisive-132354659.html
Quote"The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture," Commissioner Roger Goodell said.
:scared: Sense of UNITY!?!?!
If we get any more UNIFIED in the USA - the NFL won't have a single viewer & every stadium seat will be empty.

How's the ticket sales & attendance going lately?   Oh, like I almost forgot - WHO is paying for that stadium???

HINT:  They're not wearing red, those are empty San Fran 49er seats.

Quote"There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we've experienced over the last month.
BLM and ANTIFA protests are betting on violence to attract more MSM coverage, yeah, I guess that's quite amazing for an 'organized, organic protest'.  Did you mean to say, "response from our players with clubs...?" - code talk to the thugs, bring clubs to the next protest?

QuoteDivisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities."
"Lack of Respect....!?"  A bunch of over-paid, adolescent, wife beaters, illiterates & gang-bangers....  Sure, it's probably safer for our communities if they keep it to the field.

That's pretty darn 'tough talk' for the guy who's presiding over the decline of the NFL!
Hmmm.... Military jets typically fly over the stadium immediately after the playing of the National Anthem... do you really want to piss off those Patriots, Roger Goodell?

I read somewhere the NFL scores are getting 'too low' that the game is boring.   Leave it to Goodell to have a word with the officiating, 'Guys, we need to help get those scores *up* a little - it's for the game - be sure to do *your* part!'   This 'joke' will look like the CFL in no time...

As for me and my family - we haven't watched a single game since last season, and won't watch one until true honor and patriotism returns to the NFL.   I don't think much of Jerry Jones, but he certainly has my RESPECT as an American.

As I see it history tells us Goodell is not going to show any courage. I say it is up to the individual owners to take action. They write the checks and can set certain rules. The question is will any of the owners step up?

Wait, is this akin to a quickee mart manager speaking on behalf of all employees regardless of their political standing?
For me, this is like some sitcom star no one ever heard of, giving their opinion on climate.

I know absolutely nothing about Goodell and don't give a damn about one word he has to say when he speaks for a small contingency of racists in the field of sports.
I know for a fact he doesn't speak for the majority of teams/players and deserves to be canned from a position that should have never been created in the first place.

He has made a lot of money for the owners due mainly to his Wall St. connections. However, he has historically been MIA when serious matters arise.

Goodell had better figure out where his own paycheck comes from -- along with all the paychecks in the NFL. If he thinks they're all just sitting around paying one another in some gigantic circle jerk, he has a most amazing epiphany ahead of him.

I grew up listening to then watching the Bears / Packers games with my dad.   Many fond memories of a great rivalry.

Dad saved the politics for the Coffee Shop, where caffeine fueled many a spirited discussion, if Kennedy was really beholden to the Pope, or what about this new guy, Barry Goldwater... Nixon, alas, there was a lot of head shaking, even before Watergate.

For the life if me, I don't know why the OWNERS don't call in the players and lay-down-the-law.
But, if this is what's become of Football, then my era of Football, sadly ended a few years ago.

Probably going to boost some other sport, Hockey?

FWIW, free agency killed all the pro sports for me. I was a Browns fan as a kid, back when Paul Brown ran things and Jim Brown ran the ball. Paul Warfield and Don Cockroft and Lou ("The Toe") Groza and Leroy Kelly. THOSE DAYS ARE GONE.

I get tired of trying to memorize a whole new roster for every sports team every year.

I'm pretty sure that seeking a profit is part of the "American way," but I catch your drift. It has become a get-rich-quick jackpot that literally causes young men to forgo their educations to cash in. LeBron never even attended college, for example.

I really don't care how much money those guys make. But I miss the days when you could mention a player and know the team he played for. Johnny Bench, for example -- he was a Cincinnati Red. (I was a Reds fan.  :tounge:) Joe Nuxhall, the youngest person to ever play in the major leagues, was a Cincinnati Red his entire career. Players like Tony Perez, Vada Pinson, and Jim Maloney spent all their most productive years with the Reds before being traded away late in their careers. Pete Rose wandered for a few seasons late in his career also, but finally came home to Cincy. (Don't get me started on the Hall of Fame thing.)

Big money is what took Paul Brown and Jim Brown down the pike to become the Baltimore Browns. (Paul and Jim didn't go along, but the team up and left.) Too bad.

Been listening to the nighttime REDS games on AM 700 too!  My Bro-in-law, a Browns fan from birth, also laments Free Agency... I hear ya, and when the Browns scooted out of town ... whoa!   For me, the Packers tend to groom and hang on to players a little longer - but, when I hear a player jumped to another team, WTH...!  Seeing Jim McMann in a Packer uniform ... really pissed me off.

I did hear the definition of a "Redneck" the other night ... on AM 700, a *what?* moment.

Last year, I had a bit of remorse missing Football games, really wanted to keep up with what's going on.
But, missing a game here and there, and then listening to the horrible announcer's play calling - make a decision on this year was pretty easy.  Either the owners get on the side of honoring American Patriotism, or I'm moving on.

One thing for sure, those Liberal, anti-Americans who weren't Football fans, sure aren't gonna be filling those stadium seats or bumping Neilsen ratings.  But, I suspect... a Trump supporter is probably a bit more Patriotic and *now* a former Football fan.  As I drive west on I-40, I pass Wilkesboro, a former NASCAR track.   If this trend continues, there'll be former NFL stadiums, except the public will still be holding the Bonds which paid to build them.

Full throttle to the leftists!!!   Run that NFL into the ground!!!   Kill that golden goose, by doing what you do best, RUIN American institutions.  Burn it all down.

Simple folks. GREED!

Free agency came along because of the owners' greed. You make a good point about loyalty to one franchise. Growing up in the fifties I as a huge baseball fan and it was very rare a guy would move to another team unless by trade. More recently, and you mentioned, is NASCAR. They abandoned their "good ol' boy" base by cutting out Wilkesboro, Rockingham and second races at Darlington and Atlanta. They went to Chicago, Las Vegas and other locales outside their base. It worked for awhile, but now attendance and ratings have tanked. Now the cost of running a team has skyrocketed to what I think is a point of no return.

NFL players now taking their protests onto the field

If I was 24 years old, 270 pounds, toned and pumped with my veins full of Dr. FeelGood's wonder juice, I could sack an NFL quarterback too. I'm pretty sure that's their job. If I'd spent my career congratulating myself with my buddies on doing, um, the job I was hired to do, I'd have been fired for the last time 30 years ago.

If that didn't draw an "Unsportsman like Conduct" and/or "Taunting" penalty, the Refs are not doing their job.
It should have been a 15 yard penalty, automatic 1st down.

Perfect example of how a sport is killed, Referees not doing their job by enforcing the rules of the game.
Who wants to play a game where there are no rules, or the rules are not enforced?
