File this under "will never happen" but I would rather see all pro teams, (listening football) push minor league teams much like baseball does. Those athletes who need or want the $ can sign contracts and leave the schools to amateur status. I do believe this is going to open up a big ol can of worms.

I have never agreed with the NCAA trying to keep them from profiting off themselves. Way I see it, if they want to sign an independent contract with Nike or some cereal company, I feel as though they should be able to do so. Who is the NCAA telling them to avoid these contracts?

I have no problem with these athletes making money off their likeness. However, I also agree it is opening a can of worms.

First, those leeches called sports agents will descend on these athletes and many will screw them out of their earnings. There has to be some controls so the NCAA should take it slowly in developing guidelines. There are so many opportunities for abuse.

Here is just an example of whay needs to be ironed out. Let's take an popular athlete whose college jersey with his number and name on the back. These are money makers for colleges. How will those profits be distributed. Keep in mind, the college owns the jersey.

I can see why you would say this. The colleges own the teams they play for, and as you said the jerseys and numbers that they play under. Not to mention a lot of these college athletes do attend these schools for free, on accordance of their scholarships. This could create a serious conflict of interest.

Sick Of Silence

Have the college give the athlete a little extra spending money (as long as the grades, conduct, and sports statistics are at a high standard) and forgo any outside activities?

Let them have endorsements and treat them like professional athletes so they get fined for infractions?

Don't watch college sports because it is raising the next generation of spoiled athletes?
With all these lawyers with cameras on the street i'm shocked we have so much crime in the world.

There is constitutional law and there is law and order. This challenge to law and order is always the start to loosing our constitutional rights.

Frauditors are a waste of life.

The media tries to downplay the value of the education and its costs. I would say at state institutions the annual value is at least $25K per year. However, the real value is the opportunity for a college degree that should help the majority of the athletes who are not skilled enough for the next level.
