Passed away today from liver cancer.  Joe and Ali used to be friends.  When Ali was stripped of his belt and his license to box taken away as well Joe advocated for his reinstatement and gave Ali money.  All he got in return was taunts after the reinstatement calling Joe ignorant, a gorilla and an Uncle Tom.  Ali was part of the racist Nation of Islam group and advocated for races to keep to themselves especially when partnering with a spouse.  He actually spoke to a group of Klan members about this issue in agreement.  Now Ali is some type of hero and Joe Frazier was portrayed as some kind of bad guy.  Joe Frazier was a terrific fighter and is a far better man then Cassius Clay ever dreamed of being.

I will second that young man.

I was in Japan at the time of that Thriller in Manila fight, and the arrogance of that worthless draft-dodging pile of steaming shit now calling himself "Mohammed Ali" insisted that the ONLY live radio coverage of that fight was to be carried by the American Forces Radio & Television Service.

Cassius Worthless Clay not only dodged their draft but wanted to rub the nation's face in it.

I hold a direct recording from the AFRTS audio cable-feed to Japan of that fight. It was my one and only sports recording, and a wonderful moment of payback for the military listeners.

RIP, Joe. You did far better than anyone could ever have hoped for.

He never fought Joe Louis BB!

I heard he was put in hospice a couple of weeks ago and assumed that meant he was at the very end of his struggle with Liver cancer. I am grateful he did not linger in pain.

Rest in peace.

He was diagnosed with liver cancer last September, I think it's too late for treatment that's why he was admitted to hospice care.

'Smokin' Joe no doubt was legendary and made a great contribution to boxing.
