Do they ever play a tough golf course on the PGA any longer?

I wonder if theyare  trying to make all the  courses tiger friendly. Dont  need a driver  on any hole  now.. If a  player  is  hitting less than a driver because the holes are so short then make the  landing area very  narrow  if you hit the ball short and widen the  fairway to reward  long hitter. It gets boring every week to see every  hole so easy.

Then why turn it on?   I get bored sitting on a dock or in a boat fishing .  But I enjoy walk up and down in the water stream fishing.

Now how is that competitions if you don't need a driver?

Try playing one of those easy courses from where the pros play them. They are not easy or short. Today's pros are in much better shape. However, the big change is the equipment, especially the balls. Let's look at Tiger. When he came out 20+ years ago he was considered long averaging around 270 yards off the tee. Now, he is hitting it over 300 yards on a regular basis and he is 42. I can attest that once one hits 40 they do not get stronger or more flexible. There are some great old courses I want to continue to see. I agree with Jack Nicklaus that something must be done with the balls for professional golfer on tour.

They must be easy when -20 is getting to be the  norm. Even the US Open is  easier now. It used to be even par was a good score there.

I sense you do not play much golf. The USGA has to "trick up" US Open courses to force par golf.

Exactly. Those courses will humble you quick.

BTW, have you ever played Stone Mountain?

Yes, when I was younger and better. Good course. I grew up playing Chastain, Bobby Jones, Adams Park (now Tup Holmes) and College Park.

Are the courses getting harder or have the players got better? For many of these tournaments they play at the same courses every year, so if you've been on the tour for five years, you sort of get accustomed to the shots you need to take varying in the weather and course conditions.

The players are better due to training and competition. As a recreational golfer who started with balata balls, steel shafts and persimmon woods I can attest to how the equipment is better and more forgiving.

I would say that's the same with all sports in this day and age.

I LOVE Chastain and Bobby Jones.  BJ is my favorite public course. Chastain is a little raggedy, but it has a place in my heart because I've played there so many times.

I mentioned Stone Mountain because on one of the courses they have a Par 3 hole (I think it's the first hole) where you have to bomb it 200 yards or so over water.  Every time I played it I always thought about how much harder it is than it looks.

Players are getting better, and the technology is better.
