Just watched the final round of the British Open which was delayed until Monday.  They had miserable weather all week and the conditions were difficult.  But it was an exciting game.

Jordan Spieth missed the play-off by one stroke, but the three in the play-off kept the excitement alive for four more holes.

Zach Johnson finally won and was in tears.  He made an impressive interview with the TV people.

This always brings back fond memories for me, as we have been regular visitors to St. Andrews over the years.  It is a beautiful little town rich in history and architectural drama.  Our daughter went to school at St. Andrews University.  Her dorm room had a window overlooking the 18th green on the old course.  Years later we went back to St. Andrews where she got married in an 11th Century church there.

It's a great place!  And a great game!

ZJ is a beast.

I'd love to play that course.  Those bunkers always amaze me.

I loved the Open and St. Andrews.  I was pulling-for Spieth, but it wasn't meant to be.  ZJ  just held fast, and congrats to him.

I'd love to visit St. Andrews some day.  And play the course as well.  -The only course where I wouldn't mind hitting a ball into a bunker, just to experience how hard it is to get out of one of them.

I was rooting for Spieth also because he is such a nice guy and lives not far from me.

However, I was impressed with Zach Johnson after he won.  He truly was a humble and gracious winner!  He seems like a very nice guy also and he and Spieth seem to be close friends.  They were hugging each other afterward.

My friends who have actually played the old course say that it is a very unimpressive course by today's standards.  It is not aesthetically beautiful except for the abutting sea.  I have walked part of it and it is fairly barren of any foliage.  It is just very bumpy!  The crazy thing about it is that there are four more courses which abut the old course.  They are all jammed together.  St. Andrews is definitely a golfing town..... as well as a University town.  That is what sustains it's economy.  But it is also extremely rich in architectural history.  And the great Reformation theologian John Knox was in St. Andrews.  It is one of my favorite places in the UK.

I played the Jubilee course there once. I was paired with a local couple and a guy from Australia. It was a fun experience. As indicated it is like nothing we have here in the US.

Didn't you enjoy the village atmosphere of St. Andrews?  It is really a unique place.

My daughter lives just south of there in Edinburgh but she frequently goes back up to St. Andrews because she is so in love with it.  And she still has some friends living there.

I didn't really have the opportunity to spend much time in St. Andrews. I was with a group and staying in Edinburgh. I really enjoyed Scotland and the people.
