Yahoo secretly built a custom software program to search all of its customers' incoming emails for specific information provided by U.S. intelligence officials, according to people familiar with the matter.

The company complied with a classified U.S. government directive, scanning hundreds of millions of Yahoo Mail accounts at the behest of the National Security Agency or FBI, said two former employees and a third person apprised of the events.

According to the two former employees, Yahoo Chief Executive Marissa Mayer's decision to obey the directive roiled some senior executives and led to the June 2015 departure of Chief Information Security Officer Alex Stamos, who now holds the top security job at Facebook.

Secretly? Everyone I know has always assumed no email is private. It's why I've never once entered my credit or debit into any computer, I know for a fact every computer out there has a backdoor entrance by design.
It became law in 2008.

Sad that technology is to the point where a homemade soundproof vault is the only place one can have a private conversation with another, assuming the person you're talking to is a trusted friend.
From laser soundwave amplification, to bugs of all types, we no longer have privacy of any kind.

Yeah, I think that cat has been out of the bag....  It was established fact that Google would scan email to figure out what ads to display.  This is like a known convenient store robber saying they would also swipe candy bars on the way out.

If memory serves, Microshaft even admitted to a backdoor Govt entry, so everything you did was open to review.
