Not interested in Win-10. Screw Billy Gates and the Robbers of Redmond.

Not a fan of receiving support and security updates?  Not sure you have much of a choice, Mr. MS customer# 1726344-XD-9989U63.

I don't CARE if these criminals update something. I get no support as it is for Win-XP or Win-7.

I have the original installation disks and I also have rollback to before the offending update. As for that number---that's only one machine: I keep the others completely off-line where they won't be screwed-with by Microshaft.

At least stick with 7, since they'll continue rolling out security updates for a while.  The issue is security and how you affect others, not just your favorite shortcut isn't where you'd like it to be.

Hackers appreciate you doing this very much.  Using unsupported systems like yours makes it easy to compromise your system to participate in DDOS attacks, and a bunch of other cool exploitations that you probably have no clue are going on, yet are lending your machine resources to participate in.  You could probably even be participating in providing a node for an underground child pornography network, or an illegal bit-coin mining operation. Who knows, because you sure won't.  And after you re-install, whatever was on your machine stopped phoning home, so they know to re-exploit you to pick back up operations.

As one who owns a company that provides network security services, I can tell you that these hackers appreciate you very, very much, so don't think your defiant stance of not caring about security doesn't go unnoticed.

Your concern for my refusing to use Ubuntu is noted.

This is not about Linux or Ubuntu (I don't use Ubuntu, by the way).  It's about you keeping your system updated.  Microsoft supports the late versions of Windows, so you really should upgrade and stay current.  Using XP puts you at risk.

Really, I'm simply saying thank you for being one of many who provide opportunity to my suite of security services.

I don't use XP on-line. As you doubtlessly know after printing what you have.

Well, good.  I am glad to hear that.  Also, make sure you have all your inbound ports turned off:

If you do that, you're good.

Turning off inbound ports? Sounds easier to just turn the machine off, since nothing will come in.

That is very true, but in order to use it, you need the power on.  You can tell if it's on by little lights, and you should be able to hear a fan spinning.  You also know it's on because you can type words and stuff, and they show up on the monitor.

hmmmm..... what was that HACK to "wake up" a machine via the ethernet port....?
Or was that the BIOS switch to automatically start up the machine at 2am and call "home"?

As a demo of XP's vulnerability, my kids "cyber security" advisor for Civil Air Patrol, showed them 10 ways to hack an up-to-date XP machine.... just a couple of minutes for any method.

When asked about air-gapping a machine for security, he said the only secure machine was turned off, unplugged, and stored in a garbage can with the lid on.   LOL
