I am not an engineer, but why would you build them like this? You need a better structure, something with a wider base, with stronger materials that's reinforced, and perhaps multiple smaller blades with a way to divert the wind to stop the airflow.

The problem is usually caused by one failing blade, which weighs over a ton, so if one fails, the entire balance goes awry and the whole thing collapses.
I like wind power, but like solar, it has no place on the grid, it should only be used for individual use.

The fact that it kills far more birds than even a plague could accomplish, is reason enough to outlaw their use.

A reason to have more blades, and multiple smaller ones so the high wind on giant blades will not render the braking system useless. wider base for stability. Redirecting the wind to stop the high wind chaos.

And, I do believe that the individual should have their own wind turbinel and solar panel on top of that.

Smaller, more turbines, still won't minimize the death of birds, they need to be outlawed.
Truth is, they do far more damage than any energy source available. Even huge solar arrays kill a lot of wildlife, which is why both sources should be used as stand alone energy sources, be it remote homes or switching stations, cell towers, none of this BS has a place on the grid.

I'd love to see Trump use the EPA what it was designed for and fine, and shutdown these Marxist bird Cuisinart's.

Aside from killing birds, stunning ugliness, unreliability, cluttering up open spaces, expensive to repair & maintain, both solar arrays & wind towers exist only with tax write offs & government support - what is not to love. 

Good, reliable and very safe nuclear power is the way to go.
